My friend knew I would love this place. The location, the cafe, the flooring, the ambiance. I think I fell in love with it all. I could come here and just chill with a book and a nice cup of coffee. Sitting outside or by the window looking out. it all just felt right. Warm and relaxing and a bit of a vintage feeling that could send me back to the 70's with me in my bell bottom jeans and a cotton tie dyed shirt. I had no idea this place existed. And then I see all these great reviews. Seems like it was closed for a bit, so not sure if the ownership these past few years is new? Still. coffee is best enjoyed in a relaxing set. Just like this. I think if you decide to go for a walk around the West End and if you end up here, you might want to stay a bit. Hmmmm I just noticed Shila B's reviews. She's a great Yelper, but I can tell that our terms of ambiance is different. Likely my 20 years plus age sets me to an era from a different generation. Still, check it out. Maybe you'll like it.

    Penny flooring. Very cool!

This place is amazing!! I wish I could give it 10 stars I love everything about it. The new owners really did a great job on the reno and it really feels like a cute little community gathering cafe. Totally reminds me of Montreal. 1. Delicious food (Cannolis!!!!) 2. Yummy coffee 3. Friendly staff 4. Comfy seats to lounge on 5. Great clientele 6. Lovely clean décor 7. Nice little patio 8. Dog friendly I just moved a few blocks from here and I was worried I would not be able to find a cool coffee spot to read my book or work on my laptop. So So so happy this place is where it is.

This place is very cute, and has good coffee but their pastries are good awful. We had the single worst lemon bar, one super dense flavorless "scone" (its borderline offensive calling what I was given a scone), and a mediocre coconut macaroon. Honestly the extremely and unnecessarily THICK layer of confectioners sugar on top of the lemon bar should have tipped me off but I took the risk anyway. Stop for coffee, go elsewhere for snacks.

I went to this friendly little deli this afternoon with my boyfriend and daughter. We each had a cold sandwich and they were amazing! Tucked out of the way on Cardero in a quaint residential neighbourhood, this little shop is easy to miss making it a hidden gem that caters to locals and is known, primarily, by word of mouth. There is no indoor seating but a couple of wooden benches under the awning will do for a quick sit down if you plan to stay a bit. That's what we did and we received smiles and nods from passing locals and one person exclaimed that our joyful munching was a perfect advertisement for the food. The bread was the freshest I've ever had at a restaurant, the ingredients flavourfully combined (I had The Lord Stanley - turkey, cheese, peppers and lemony, saucy goodness) and they were so big, they filled our bellies for the afternoon. Not bad for $7. As we had only popped in for sandwiches, I didn't have much time to check out the shelves for italian goodies, deli meats and cheeses or frozen dinner ideas but I'll be sure to go back for some serious gourmet shopping. Bonus - Cardero Bottega handles Mobio payments so I was able to use my iPhone to make an easy credit card purchase and, happily, this weekend they were having a promotion for Mobio users and I received a free $15 itunes card for using my iPhone. Sweet!

So charming! A quiet nook that's perfect to bring a book or a good friend. I had an Americano and the barista was friendly and took her time making a quality coffee. Make sure you have an hour or two to sit and enjoy the ambiance.

Hmmmmmmmm sandwiches! Why yes, try the made to order sandwiches. For $7.50 you will be stuffed with fresh bread, amazing deli meats, marinated peppers and some of the best cheese around. But the Bottega is more then just fantastic sandwiches. They have a great selection of deli goods like cured meats and imported cheeses, plus high quality canned and dried deli products. They carry fresh pastries, bread, pizza dough, and pasta as well. Personally I'd rather buy these items at an independent store than at Capers. Oh yah, and if you need a caffeine fix they also make a pretty mean cup of coffee.

Christmas Season Special Item - Christmas Tree Croissant and Kuegelhoph…read more Christmas tree croissant with red stripes filled with hazelnut pastry cream and bright passionfruit jam. Dough was very buttery and crispy. I could taste strong butter flavor which stood out. Passionfruit jam dominated over hazelnut cream. It lean on sweeter side. I prefer more hazelnut cream. However, the croissant itself was one of the best. Very delicious. Holiday Chocolate Kugelhopf~ dark chocolate sweet bread studded with chocolate chips, citrus peels, and almond praline, rolled in sugar. I really liked kugelhoph's dough and almond praline! It wasn't too heavy, lighter texture and praline wasn't too sweet. So, sugar coating paired with dough very well. I would like to get this one again! Overall, I really enjoyed both Christmas items. Their baking goods was always top notch.

It's my first time here. It's busy. Lots of seats. They have a glass covered patio, which is a nice extension. I ordered a double shot of ice espresso. It was a warm day but needed caffeine. I like they have lots of choices of sweets and donuts and their portions are big. The tables are small though, and a bit cramped inside, unlike what I'm used to at Main St. There's also minimal wall outlets for laptops or phone charging. So make sure you have your devices charged before coming here to work or study. Outside it's walking distance from other stores snd restaurants. It's a nice commercial neighborhood. I recommend visiting it after going to the beach down the hill.

I am writing this review because my email to them went unanswered…read more I am shocked and disappointed at the way I was treated after spending $40. I am a HUGE 49th fan and love their dougnuts and coffee. Whenever I have friends in town, or someone needs a suggestion on where to visit, I always say "49th has really good coffee and doughnuts". Unfortunately, my mind has changed, and I don't see myself ever recommending this location. As an avid coffee drinker, I am pretty picky on where I choose to have coffee and love the cafe culture in Vancouver. My mom loves doughnuts and we had come all the way from Langley for a day in Kits, so I recommended we go to 49th! I spent about $40 on 4 doughnuts, 2 maple sea salt lattes and a drip coffee. The maple sea salt lattes looked beautiful and my doughnut was delicious as usual (big fan of the french crueller). Unfortunately, our maple sea salt lattes were very very strong and had no maple or sea salt flavoring in my opinion. I decided to ask the girl at the register if we could please get a different drink because it was super strong and didn't taste good. I was met with SO much attitude, i was actually shocked. I went into it very friendly and politely asked for an alternate drink as i did spend $12 on these two drinks (and life gets expensive!!). She then goes "well, you probably don't like the taste of coffee then".... I actually didn't know how to respond. But i did say "I'm a huge 49th fan and love coffee!". Then I had asked how many shots are in the small and she said "2". I then had asked if we could get a new/different drink and she goes "I'll give it to you this one time, but next time you'll have to pay." This is NOT the way to treat a paying customer. It felt so rude and accusatory. I very rarely come to Kits, so she wouldn't have recognized me and am an honest girl who works hard for my money. When the customer comes up politely, you offer to make it right. I hope the next person that comes up not satisfied with their drink is treated a lot better than how I was.
