Well well well, did I hit the Jackpot with Elements! After my regular stylist went on maternity leave and never returned, I finally (after many hair disasters) found this gem right around the corner from me! She was able to accommodate my schedule on short notice and do the job within a very reasonable amount of time (usually I suffer hours in the chair with hairbrushes being banged agains my scalp) she was able to actually transform my hair from a scarecrow feel to a purring kitten! Something else that happened was that my hair even after washing it and drying it still looked like I just came from the salon! Unbelievable !! Color was spot on, feel was great, and manageable After wash!! Can't say a enough great things about this place ... oh wait, one more thing! Pricing IS Very reasonable compared to what I have paid others to mess up my hair. read more

So I've contemplated writing a review for about a week but I want to start off by saying everyone here is very friendly and the vibe is nice, no one was rude, etc. My situation was that I came in wanting some kind of balayage, to lighten my hair in general, nothing crazy like platinum since my hair was damaged from the beginning from dying over platinum with brown dye. My mistake. I came in and showed reference pics, pointed to one that was darker toned than the rest which were very light and I acknowledged my hair wouldn't make it to that color. My stylist proceeded with a balayage which we agreed would not be very blonde and that was fine! (I just remembered I said I wanted to keep my roots, hence the request for balayage. Ended up with highlights up to my scalp lol) She does the foils and sits me under the dryer before rinsing me out and toning. From the chair the color looked fine. The following is what really crushed me. She mentioned my hair being uneven (fault of my own very bad and uneven diy haircut!) and wanted to even it out. I said I was growing out an undercut and to leave the regular length hair longer than the grown out undercut. She then evened out my hair by trimming it to the length of the undercut, cutting some of the grown out undercut too!! She texturized my hair because there was damage on the ends. The end result was a lot of layers I didn't ask for and a still completely uneven haircut but shorter. The "balayage" was highlights that were solid in color and not blended at all - when I got home and really looked at it the lines were harsh and almost chunky. Also when she was styling my hair she ripped through my hair over and over with a brush while blow drying and I don't understand why you would do that to damaged hair. I do not understand why you would harshly brush and blow dry damaged hair. She showed me the hair that broke off on the brush, like of course it's going to break off if you are ripping through my hair!! I let her know that I was growing my hair out for an extension appointment which I already put down a deposit for and she cut it anyway. I feel bad because I should have said something but she had already started texturizing it and it was very noisy with blowdryers at multiple stations. I paid 140 dollars for this just to sit in my car and cry. I got home and I cried!! I am still incredibly upset over this, am out 400 dollars because of my deposit (hair is too short to qualify me now), paid 350 dollars to get it all corrected elsewhere. I really wish my stylist had just said "No, I can't do this for the health of your hair." This is something blonde specialists will do if it's just not reasonable. I lost almost 1000 dollars over this ordeal and hair that I can't get back without waiting MONTHS - I bought clip ins (more money spent) because I can no longer get the tape ins I was excited to get next month, and can't stand going out with with this cut. I dare not ask for a refund because I don't want to even interact with anyone from the salon - I don't want to be told it was my fault or I'll go insane lol, I can't ever fix it because of the damage from sitting too long under the dryer, I don't want to be contacted by anyone from the salon, I just want to say if you want to do any kind of blonde or lightening please pay the extra money and find a different salon that specializes in blonde. read more

So far all I've used is my olaplex bottle, biolage shampoo, and John Frieda deep conditioner. My hair is in amazing condition I couldn't be happier! I moved to Escondido about four and half years ago and elements salon is on my way home, after the salon I some what trusted closed down I was forced to look for another salon and I'm really glad Elements is the next spot I gave a chance. Diana was absolutely amazing, usually when I go to a salon the first thirty minutes is someone throwing my hair about and exclaiming how much of it I have, trust me I know! That wasn't the case with Diana, and I truly believe that it translated to her level of knowledge and experience with different kinds of hair. I was able to show Diana a picture of what I was envisioning and she explained to me how this would be a two step process which I was content with. I had only one stipulation, I absolutely hate the rusty brassy stage of lightening my hair and Diana was understanding of this. She turned my dark hair into beautiful dark hair with gold and brown balayage highlights. The first coloring was so amazing that I haven't been able to decide whether or not to go back to get it lightened further. She was kind, caring, and most importantly knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Diana to anyone who is looking for a new salonist, I would encourage you to listen to her advice as she definitely knows what she's doing. I know it's easy for us to want something in one go, but I couldn't be happier with what she did even though I was originally apprehensive. I'll definitely be seeing her soon. read more

Super sad...went to a new salon and apparently my cut from here was very uneven and "not done by someone with experience". That's something they should tell you. It's hard to go wrong with curly hair but I got it layered short to "get the blanket off my neck" and it didn't work. Today I had an experienced professional trim my hair but she basically had to reshapeit, layer, thin, and fix the chops that were previously done. read more

Came in with only a vague idea that I wanted to cut a minimum of 8" to donate my hair, nearly 5" of light brown roots and mid-back length hair that was very faded dark brown from the black I died it months ago. I love my new hair it's the length we discussed and my black color looks incredible with the brown face framing highlights! I went to Emma the other day because I wanted to do something fun with my hair--color it rainbow? Get a perm? I wasn't entirely sure, but I knew I wanted something complicated and fun. Emma got into the hair business by dying her friends' hair different (fun) colors, so I knew she was the one for me. And she was. Four hours later--between the bleaching and the four shades of purple/blue/silver we used--we were done. And my hair looks fabulous. I'm planning on going back to see her in about six weeks to add more shades of blue to my hair (there wasn't enough time during this appointment, sadly) and then in about six months to perm it. She's a really kind person with a wonderful personality on the more personal side of things, and she's great at doing what she does on the business side of things. I sent this email to Elements about my extreme disappointment with the haircut they gave me. I hadn't planned to post a review but it's been more than a month and they haven't responded, even with a half hearted apology like "we're sorry you're not happy". So, I'm posting (gave an extra star for good COVID precautions): Sat 5/22/2021 4:55 PM To: info@elementshairspa.com Hi Elements team. I came in Friday May 21st at 8:00 am to have my first haircut in more than a year. I can't tell you the name of the stylist, because she never introduced herself. What I can tell you is that she gave me the worst haircut I've had in 52 years, and that includes an unfortunate bout of baby bangs in the 80s. I told the stylist that I wanted a very slightly graduated bob, shorter in the back and slightly longer in the front, and that I HATE layers but was open to a little face framing if she thought it was a good idea. She proceeded to give me some kind of shag that's almost a mullet: heavily layered, with the front in very choppy layers and shorter than the back. Even if I'd wanted this cut, which I CERTAINLY didn't, it's an objectively bad job. There are several long pieces, no blending, it literally looks like a toddler cut my hair.  I'm not going to put a review on Yelp because I don't want to hurt a small business, but I thought you should know that you RUINED my hair, and my mood for 4 months or so while it grows out. As soon as it does I'll be going to another salon and hope they can fix it.  I hope this will encourage the stylist to 1) LISTEN to the client and 2) not double book clients so she has more than 7 minutes to cut someone's hair. I had a great post-COVID-19 hair experience at Elements with owner Maria last Monday. I only had to wear my mask when she put the color on. For the 20-25 min to dry the color, I was under a hood with no mask in a separate back room by myself, which was great so I could breathe. When she cut the hair I was back in the main room holding my mask to my face as she cut the hair close to my face. I was the only client at the time. Never saw such a clean salon! Clear lucite panels hanging by ceiling chains between each station, made it look nice. Oh and I got the best color job and hair trim of my life! She is so talented. Jenny Arce has been doing my hair for over 10 years. She's great at what she does and you couldn't find a sweeter gal! I wouldn't dream of going to anyone else as she "knows" my hair and what it can and cannot "do" when I mention certain cuts or styles. She does such a great job every time and does a beautiful job when I get a weave. I've been with her at 3 salons and this one (Elements) tops them all! Why? The location is in a nice area, easy to get to on Grand Ave. , and then I agree with the last comment re: the people and the atmosphere - friendly and comfortable. This place was the 3rd place I called and they actually had an opening for me! It was on a Saturday and I called around 11. Diana was the one who cut my hair and she was amazing! She ended up cutting off 7 inches! I'm really attached to my hair and normally a big cut like this is a little traumatizing. But she made it fun and did a really good job! I love it! I've been getting my hair cut by Diana for about 9 years now, and vow to never let another person touch my hair for as long as she's still a stylist. The best part is at the beginning of every appointment she asks how the last cut was working out and if there's any issues.... answer is always no but she always asks. The front desk staff is always so helpful and accommodating if I ever have to re-schedule, and on occasion it's a few calls and a few times re-scheduling. I had a trim done there a few months ago and absolutely loved it. You see I'm growing out my hair and finding a hairdresser who actually listens to me when I say "just a dusting...not even a quarter inch please" and actually listens and doesn't cut off 2 months of growth is a godsend. My hair is in fairly good condition and doesn't need to be hacked off or "fixed". I know doing trimmings aren't exciting but it's what I ask for and what I expect to get. Very happy with what I have got. Had my eyebrows done a few weeks ago and they did a beautiful job and I will be returning in a week or 2 for a touch up. I definitely recommend. read more

This is my second time seeing Maria, the first was for a haircut only. I debated whether or not to write a review because I liked her as a person, but then I realized I should protect someone else from a bad dye job. I went to Maria for a big change, I went from reddish-medium brown to blonde. I was told it would take multiple visits, but she did it in one, which totally destroyed my hair. It was my first time with bleach and she left it on for over and hour and then did it again. She painted it on heavily in some areas, with lots of weird blotchy areas being quiet obvious. I was told this was called a color correction, but all it was, was bleach and a single color. It cost me $200+tip. I asked her why the prices were the same as Detour Salon in Encinitas, which she quickly explained to me that they were no longer in business and I could go there if I wanted to. It honestly felt aggressive and very overpriced for what was done. She kept saying how she was spending so much time on me (I was her only client) but all the time was me sitting with bleach on my head. Some splattered in my hand, and even gave me a burn. She kept saying how some one got the same thing as me but paid $400, and that I was getting a discount. It just felt like she was trying to overcharge me. She didn't even give me a nice haircut, just lobbed off 6-inches straight across, and used layering scissors for the rest. I could have done that myself. I really liked her as a person, but I would not recommend her, she isn't a colorist at all. read more

I've always been really afraid to get my hair done. Before I found Elements, I'd walk out with hair that felt like straw and I'd immediately throw it into a bun and re-wash and condition it when I got home. Then I found Jon! I walked in and asked about extensions and highlights, and set an appointment with Jon, not reading any reviews and trusting the salon, and I am so happy! If you haven't had extensions, they are very tedious. Jon is such a pro and is so patient. He's just ridiculously talented and knows how to keep me alert during a two hour appointment with his sense of humor. He trims my bangs exactly how I want them, colors my hair something beautiful, and I walk out feeling like a million bucks. I wouldn't dream of putting it in a bun after I leave! I recommend him every time I'm paid a compliment on the color (because the extensions so flawless no one notices they're not real ;) ). I'm coming to see you, Jon! read more

Booked an appt because of pretty good reviews but my experience wasnt. I asked for brown hair nothing boring something like the pictures attached and ended up with a dark reddish almost black hair. I told Maria (the owner and apparently hair dresser for 30 years) i spent two years trying to get red out of my hair and finally resulted in bleaching to get rid of it. I didnt want to but it was the only way. Went to this salon for brown hair, she said she would use the light hair i already had to make it less boring. She started to blow dry my hair and immediately saw the red i used to have that i tried to get rid of for two years. It was very dark like a burgundy that i have had before. Right there i was super upset at the fact that i explained i tried so hard to get rid of red and she put red in my hair and it was super dark and the pictures are no where near what i even wanted. She through an ash dye and i knew it wasnt going to work and i can physically see the red in my hair. Starting from ground zero again because Maria failed recognize or listen to the fact that i said it took me two years to get rid of red and all she did was throw a super dark brown ALMOST BLACK with a cherry tint to my hair. I have never been so upset before. And on top of that i booked a correct appt, and they messed up the booking so she told me she came in on her off day to take my appt like it was my fault they messed it up. She only took 35 dollars off. I keep getting told i shouldnt have paid at all and everyone keeps saying i have black hair. Thanks Maria. read more
