When I moved down to Valley Center from LA 4 years ago, I was so nervous to find a stylist down here and even considered making the drive every 6-8 weeks to continue getting my hair done in LA. But then, I was referred to Kimberly at Salon Sultry. She's an incredibly talented stylist, colorist, and just an all-round nice person. I always feel taken care of and get tons of compliments on my hair/color. Their pricing is very transparent and reasonable. They also run some fun seminars monthly with continued education like how to curl your hair, or makeup sessions and such. Needed a last minute appointment on a Saturday afternoon to cut out a rat's nest of tangles at the ends of my hair. My hair is extra, extra long (past my butt long) and fragile. The young woman who answered the phone got me booked with Rachel within a couple of hours. The salon staff are super friendly and the salon is very neat and clean and they offered water on arrival. I'm an older lady with very little hair. They charge a flat rate of $75 for a trim and call it a haircut, even if they are just trimming exactly the same way they cut the last time. The coloring is very nice, but I can't justify $220-$240 every two months for hair. That's more than I pay for most of my utility bills, and it's certainly more than I make in 2 hours. I'm actively looking for another salon that can do the same for about half as much. Call me crazy, but I can't afford to keep paying your rent and mine too. I give the service itself high marks, but the pricing/value much lower. read more

Hayley did such a great job. It was a long process but so glad she took her time and was extra careful with my hair. Love this place! Kimberly is my hair stylist and also one of the owners of the place. She is amazing. She rescued my hair years ago when I had totally messed up my hair by using dry shampoo that was filled with chemicals that were killing my hair. My hair looked very dry and I was losing so much hair on a daily basis (when I was just combing it and even worse when I would wash it - it was super disturbing). She started treatments with my hair and they have revamped my hair. She knows what I like and don't like and always gets my hair the way I love it. Had a fantastic experience at this salon! The booking process was easy, and they were super friendly. I cannot speak more highly of Jenna. I am growing out a pixie and so I was super unclear of how I could make my "poof" look like it was actually a style. She took her time to hear exactly what my concerns were, and then she offered some great ideas. She gave me an awesome head massage while washing my hair (I literally almost fell asleep!) and then she did a great cut and style. I made an appointment for Thursday last week to get a cut/ color. I had an event to go to on Wednesday the following week. The day of my appointment Tiffany the stylist that was doing my hair text me saying something came up and she had to move her clients around. I was a little annoyed because now that meant I had to move my schedule around. But I needed to get this done so I made arrangements to go in Saturday morning like she asked. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she told me what she was going to so to get it looking like the picture. I said ok figuring shes the professional she should know. I was there for a few hours and after she dried my hair and curled it a little it was a little brighter than I thought it was going to but I was like ok maybe I'll get use to it. So Sunday night I washed my hair and saw that pretty much all of the color she did came out except the front. And it was super orange and I cried because I paid 230 for this! And I had an event coming. I was pretty disappointed. I text Tiffany on Monday morning asking if there was any way to fix it and she said she could she wanted me to come in at 10:15 but I was at work and I work pretty far. I told I was available in the afternoon around 330 or 4. She said she was not available asked about the next day so I text her back my availability which was the same. Then she just never text me back. So I desperately looked for someone else to fix it thankfully I did. After I already made an appointment she text me the next day and said she didn't have time to fix and MAYBE her coworker would do it. I was even more upset she wasn't even willing to fix it herself and pushing me off on someone else on top of her not getting back to me. I text and let her know how I felt and told I wanted to speak with a manager. She said someone would reach out to me shortly. It's now Friday and no one has called me at all. I called the salon a few times today and no one has answered. I am so upset that I've now had to pay twice to have my hair done. Never have I ever had to deal with anything like this going to a salon. Really unprofessional and surprised at how they have handled this situation considering they have really good reviews. I will never recommend this place. The owner did end up calling me after I text the salon letting them know I still have not heard from anyone. I missed her call but I immediately called her back and she didn't answer. She left a voice mail and it was Deena one off the owners and it just sounded very cold and unapologetic and obviously did not want to hear anything from me since again they did not answer my call. This review is specifically for their Bridal Hair service. My friend and I were bridesmaids in a wedding near the salon and wanted to get our hair done in the morning before the wedding. Before booking the service, the salon requested that we send photos of our hair and the styles that we wanted to get done. This information was sent months in advance. On the day of the wedding, my friend had a stylist that did her updo with no problem. Unfortunately, I had a stylist who could not (i.e., did not know how) to do the style I requested (which was a classic half-up, half-down style). What she had done was not at all close to the photos that I had showed her. I even showed her a photo of my actual hair in that style from a previous wedding and asked her to replicate it. Red Flag #1 was when she curled my hair and touched the hot iron on my scalp multiple times Red Flag #2, I asked for a twisted style and she started off by braiding my hair. Nowhere in the reference photos were there braids. Red Flag #3, she was undoing and redoing her steps. I have gotten my hair done for many weddings and I've never had a stylist undo and restart a step. She was clearly trying to wing it on the spot Red Flag #4, after failing to do the style I asked, she had to go to the stylist that did my friend's updo and ask him how to do it. After 90 min in the chair, I ran out of time (and patience) and asked her to find someone else who could do my hair. Luckily the manager/owner was available and fixed it in no time. In the end, we were behind in our schedule by over an hour! Overall, I was very disappointed that 1) they assigned a stylist that couldn't do the style I requested even though I had sent photos months in advance and 2) the stylist did not have the humility to admit when she couldn't do the style and just hand it over to someone who could. It was a horrible experience to start what should have been an exciting wedding day. read more
