First off, Steven you're amazing. My hair feels soft and healthy. I haven't been this happy about my hair in a long looong time. For most of my life my hair was tied back. I loved my curls but my hair could never hold back the frizz, no matter what I put in it. It would fro out and look fried for no reason. I'm a curly haired human born to a straight hair mother. You don't know the struggle until your adult self glances back at childhood photos. Rule #1 - DO NOT BRUSH DRY CURLY HAIR! My name is Kassie and I have been going to Steven for the Yugo straightening for the last year or so. I like his other clients who have kinky,curly hair have the same issue. I have been using chemically straightening my hair for the last 14 years as well. And every 3-4 months two during the recent 5 years. However, salonists that I have previously used were not very consistent with there services and techniques. There were times where I had to go back a week after and have it retouched up because my roots were still wavy. Then another salonist would burn my hair with the flat iron after a few years of treating my hair. He didn't completely dry my hair before the heat straightening process. And I had even expressed it to him the first time he did that. Then the last session that I had with him was in December 2016 he did the same thing. And I even had brought it up to his attention during the session that he can't straighten my hair while it is still wet. But he didn't listen to me and continued to flat iron my hair. And I could hear my hair sizzling with every swipe with the iron. And knee my hair was fried and done. While all this nightmare was going on Steven was providing his awesome service to his customer and I did not hear sizzling coming from his customer's hair. So that had confirmed my point that you do not flat iron hair when wet. And also I had made up my mind then and there that I was not going back to that salonist and would invest my time and money with Steven's expertise and knowledge. Going to Steven is the absolute best thing I have ever done to my hair in my entire life! I promise I am not exaggerating whatsoever! I went into his salon with super frizzy hair that I battled with for most of my life. I even told him and his wife Andrea the story of when I first heard of Japanese Hair Straightening - it was after my sister had hogged the flat iron in the morning to style her already pin-straight hair, leaving me to deal with the major insecurity of going to school with my natural frizzy hair contained in a bun yet again. This was middle school, and I cried so hard on the way to school! That day, when my mom picked me up, she had done some research on Japanese Hair Straightening and asked if I wanted to get it done. I told her no at the time, and ever since had the idea of one day going in the back of my mind. 10 years later and here I am! I wish I didn't wait this long to finally get it done, but Steven was so quick to respond and book an appointment with me! I have a pretty busy schedule in between school and two jobs, but he was so flexible. He responded to my inquiry via Yelp after I sent him a request at the desperate hour of 4am (I work night shift at the hospital hahaha). He was so understanding and so willing to work with me! We promptly met for a consultation the next day after my initial inquiry, and he was able to examine my hair. Like I said, I've always hated my hair, and I did many things to get myself to love it. That included lots of bleach and hair color (professionally done). Doing Yuko/JHS on bleach/hair color can be very damaging, so the consultation allowed Steven to look over the hair to see if the service can even be done to begin with. In my initial text to Steven I had mentioned getting it all dyed back to black in October, but I totally forgot to mention this in our consult, so we only looked at the bleached bits as they are fading and more prominent in my already black hair. Be sure you mention ANY color you've done to your hair!! We booked an appointment about two weeks out from our consult. This was so quick, considering Steven is very busy now that salons are open again and has been booked weeks out! I appreciated him squeezing me in as a new client - so amazing! The appointment itself took about 4 hours. Steven and his wife Andrea are like a well-oiled machine! I sat in awe of his craft - Steven is so focused on caring for what's best for your hair, you can't help but admire it. He's also so educational - he tells you exactly how the chemicals work and he teaches you tons about how things like stress and nutrition affect your hair. He's also unlike any other hairdresser I've had before in that he actually advises you in what he thinks is best for your hair and he steers you in the right direction. Most hairdressers I've had just do whatever you ask for and don't necessarily speak up if they don't think a style will look good on you or if it's a good choice for your hair. (Hence all my previous coloring, keratin treatments, and regrettable haircuts in the past). He advised me on things like avoiding too much layering, ways to part my hair, and when I went into the appointment hoping to get a long bob cut, he advised me that he thought it was going to be really cute. The thing with Steven that I've never felt in another hairdresser before is that what he says, he means, and you can count on your new hair being the best look for you. I trusted him 100%, and I felt comfortable with him knowing I was going to get amazing hair at the end of the appointment. Something about just being able to say to your hairdresser "whatever you think is best!" and being able to trust that it WILL be the best...it's just an amazing feeling that takes the stress and edge off of making any hair change. I may be bias because Steven Tran is my brother, but also know that I trust very few people with my hair. When I first tried out Yuko Japanese Hair Straightening, I was very skeptical since I've always had issues with frizziness and just very unruly hair. Straightening was never really a possibility when I was young since I didn't know who or where to turn. Plus, I've seen some friends who gotten their hair straightened and it just looked awful. Their hair ended up looking too flat, and there was no real movement besides just stick straight hair. After my first session with him, I was amazed at how shiny, smooth, and the overall texture was so different from what I had. I couldn't stop touching my hair. It's like when you get an amazing blowout and you turn people's heads as you walk by. Why can't all hair days be like that? Now, getting up in the morning to get ready for work is so easy because I don't have to style or blow dry. No more fussing around because those darn bangs just won't lay flat or taming those flyaways. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be able to wet my hair and not have to worry about it getting curly on me. As a child I had ridiculously curly hair that was very hard to maintain and often times lead to tears when my mom tried combing it.
