I booked a massage explaining that I have had awful neck and upper shoulder pain. The lady referred me to a man that she said was amazing at deep tissue which is what I wanted. I go in and fill out paperwork; you have the option of doing aromatherapy which I do at home and didn't want to pay $10 extra for so I kindly said I didn't want that. The receptionist seemed to try and pressure me and made me feel bad instead of taking no for an answer. They called me back 10 mins late (keep in mind I was scheduled for a 60 min massage). I go in and explain everything to my therapist and he seems to completely understand. He explains to me how he doesn't use oil because he doesn't want my muscles to glide, he wants to work "right on them"..(?) I get on the table face up and he begins by massaging my armpit? I don't know the science by it by his hand was unnecessarily close to my chest, I was very uncomfortable. He had me do a couple range of motion exercises which also made me uncomfortable because the blanket slipped down as my arms rotated. I couldn't relax at all and all he kept telling me was that I needed to relax and let him do the work. I was waiting for him to actually massage my neck and upper back like I had anticipated. About 30 mins in, he turns me on my stomach and I have never felt so uncomfortable during a rotation. I am not new to massages and this man held up the blanket so high, there is no doubt in my mind he looked at my backside. Laying on my stomach I'm finally trying to relax and get excited that he is actually going to rub out my pain. He is applying the lightest pressure and continues stretching instead of rubbing my muscles like I had come in for. He told me "your muscles aren't responding well to the deeper pressure so I am only going to do light pressure and stretch you." He then tells me the time is up. I get dressed, pay and listen to the receptionist try and pressure me into buying a membership for probably a good 5-7 minutes (these people really don't take no for an answer). This massage was NOT cheap and I cannot afford to get a massage frequently; therefore, when I do, I want to get the most out of it to where I can be relieved of my pain for the next few weeks. I woke up today with just as much or even more pain than yesterday. My muscles are not "sore" from the massage, the same chronic neck and back pain that I have had for months is still there. I am not one to complain but I felt totally cheated. I understand therapists are qualified but if your client comes in for a specific DEEP TISSUE massage and you apply pressure lighter than "light pressure", that is simply wrong. I get in my car after getting dressed, paying, being pressured into a membership and see that it is 5 mins after the time my massage WAS SUPPOSED to end. This means he had to have ended at least 10 mins before the time was up; keep in mind I was called back 10 mins later meaning I got a 40 min massage and paid the price of a 60-minute massage. Not typically one to complain but I do not want anyone else to experience what I did. Save your money. read more
