Customer service goes a long way, and this experience was enough for me to decide not to do business here. There are plenty of places that can provide basic information with courtesy and respect. I won't be spending my money at this establishment. What a biatch!

The neon sign of the location really adds a nostalgic, classic appeal. I had one pair of vintage Levi's cleaned after having acquired them on the resale market, and had challenges with getting them cleaned and thoroughly deodorized; even after three wash cycles, an overnight distilled white vinegar soak, and a direct sunlight air dry. After all that didn't work, I decided to bring my denim to Ideal for a final attempt. I dropped off on Wednesday and asked for Friday pick-up which the owner said was possible. I called on Thursday to see if an earlier pick-up was possible, and provided my ticket number to which I got a call back after checking on my piece. I was told that Friday morning would allow for service completion- which was fine. I picked the denim up first thing on Friday morning, and the scent I was trying to get out is completely gone. The quick turn around, friendly service and supporting a local business, Ideal is a great choice. For my one pair of denim, I paid $8. This is more than reasonable. Great service, quick turn around and much better than other cleaners. I will be going to Ideal for my pieces, and am interested in having a cleaning done on bigger pieces I have. Suggesting for anyone looking for a good cleaner to try Ideal. To note, with current construction in downtown Oakland, getting there is tougher than usual. And for new customers, push the door hard, it felt like it wasn't unlocked when I first came in. ahah

Living in the city I understand prices are higher than the surrounding Bay Area. Prices are decent for the city for dress shirts/ blouses ($5) more expensive than if I we're to go to my regular person in Marin. Price for a baby blanket is Ridiculous. I brought in 2 baby blankets (very thin) and was charged $49 which a regular price for an actual blanket. This is why I will not be heading back. And the fact that it took them a week to get it back to me. Service. The guy at the store is nice. but his service is slow haven't received any of my items within the regular 2-3 day turnaround. If you ask any questions, you will be kicked out with your dry-cleans thrown out. This morning I came to pick up shirts. The owner told me one of them is blouse, instead of a shirt so she needed to charge me double the price ($3 v $6). I pointed out to her that's a button down cotton shirt for women, not a blouse. She got irritated and told me she would charge me as a blouse anyway because that's how the contractor booked it. I told her that she has overcharged me in the past (more on that below) so I am not gonna let her do that again. She got very agitated and yelled at me for not mentioning it at the time. After we argued for a bit, she told me not to come again, picked up my shirts, walked towards the door and was going to throw them out. I had to stop her and pay for the dry-cleans at the same time. P.S. Previously, I brought a leather jacket for cleaning and fixing a small cut (smaller than a penny), she told me that the patchwork will cost 30-40 dollars but she won't know until the contractor actually see it. So she charged me the maximum amount the contractor could ask for any patchwork, which is about 70 dollars, and told me that she would refund me the extra afterwards. Refund? She never mentioned a thing and pocketed the money.

Unfortunately, I have not had a great experience with these folks after a year of trying. Here's…read morewhy: 1. Their prices are very high, and they upcharge designer items simply because they are designer items - which they claim is necessary because of the "special care" required. They charged me $47.50 to dry clean a Versace silk sweater but the label simply said "dry clean only." No special methods, no extravagant fabric, no special trim. 2. They have ruined several pieces: two wool sweaters were shrunk beyond wear, and they recently managed to unstitch the crew neckline of a cotton sweater, which I can no longer wear. 3. I gave them a wool zip-front sweater with leather zipper tabs and when I went to pick it up, both leather tabs were missing. It took one month for them to replace the tabs and get it back to me. 4. Their cleaning is hit or miss. I have sent back simple cotton tops with simple stains that they marked unable to clean and - miraculously! - they were able to get the stain out the second time. 5. Their pricing is hit or miss. When I questioned a price, they would double check and suddenly realize they overcharged me. This happened at least 5 times. I sent an email explaining why they lost my business a few weeks ago and did not get a response. They clearly don't care about their customers or their business. I gave them one star because they do offer a member discount.

I have been taking my formalwear here for years. Today I brought a sweat- and blood-stained silk…read moreshirt in and the lady who helped me informed me that in their experience, 100% silk stained by underarm sweat, where the body's toxins are excreted, degrades the fabric the longer it is left on, and silk especially will sometimes shred in the dry cleaning process. She recommended that I take it home to handwash. I so appreciate their expertise and ethics! The white dress shirt and pants I was picking up are whiter than I've ever seen them. The shirt came to me used and had tree sap stains that I thought were permanent because they've been there for 2+ years. Less than $15 later, I have essentially a new outfit for work. So I decided enough was enough I needed to find a reliable and reasonably priced tailor. First time I came here I came to get my skirts tailored and hemmed. I had bought the pair online and have never been able to wear them for years. Tina walked me through how she planned to cut, resize, replace the zipper, etc this gave me a better idea of cost and labor on her end. For the amount of work she did. The price is reasonable and fair. Picked up the skirts to try them on and they were perfect!! I came back again with leather pants that were too big for me. Again she walked me through the process - what parts she could resize and not resize. Explained the pockets in the back were too close to each other for her to make the waist smaller. Instead she only hemmed the length and it was still a good fit for me. Value was still good for the work she did. I will be back with many pants for them to hem. I appreciate the honesty and explanation she gives before doing the work. Would recommend their tailoring services!

I decided to go with May Cleaners based on the reviews here and from my local FB Being Neighborly…read moregroup. I had two dresses I needed work on: one being a wedding dress and another a dinner reception dress. For the wedding dress, all I needed was an inch hemmed from the front, the back length was completely fine. Second dress I needed altered and taken in at the armpits. She said it was easy and no problem. When I came back to pick up my dresses, she hung them up on the hook up front and I went to open the zipper of the garment bag to look at them, she insisted that everything was there and rushed me out saying that I could come back if there are any issues. Because of the great reviews I didn't think anything of it, but now I'm kicking myself for not checking then and there. I went home and checked and the reception dress was fine. There was some loose thread where they took it in but I can cut that excess thread, and some dark spots which can be easily wiped off using a tide pen, but the wedding dress had pulled thread in two areas on the front. I brought it back and she said they'd fix it. When I went back, she showed the dress and it was not fixed. I pointed it out to her again and she said that was already there, I brought the dress in that condition, the dress is cheap fabric and that they were trying to be nice in helping to fix what I had done. When I told her it wasn't already there when I brought it in, she said I must have done it when I took it home and they are not responsible for that. She refused to refund me. The positive is that it's not that noticeable and it wasn't an expensive dress, but there clearly wasn't any care when working on this dress due to it being "cheap" and the fact that they didn't want to take responsibility for what they did is so terrible. Learn from my mistake - take videos of what you're bringing in so that there's no question of whether they damaged your clothes.
