The best! I've had Polly do simple hems to full item redesigns. She is able to make pockets for my dresses, makes a boxy Uniqlo shirt become a muscle tank that accentuates my curves and making Amazon dresses look meh to glam. Her prices are great, but now I do have to drive from Walnut Creek now to get her to alter my clothes. I used to go to her more often when I'm in Alameda. I rarely also have issues with lead times since usually most of the items I have aren't rushed. She also has drop off services and pickup at a coffee shop at The Line in Berkeley, usually for simple alterations. On April 12, I dropped off a skirt to be shortened. The correct length was marked with straight pins on both of one of the seams, so Poly accepted the skirt and gave me a claim check, and said the skirt would be ready April 19. I was busy that Saturday, and couldn't get to the shop to pick up, so I stopped by at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, April 22. The skirt was not ready, despite the fact that it should have been ready three days prior. Poly told me they were working on it now, and asked if I could come back in 30 minutes. As I was on my way to work, I couldn't wait, and since I would still be at work at 5:00 PM when they closed, this was a problem--I needed the skirt for a trip I'm leaving on tomorrow at 5:00 AM, which is why I dropped it off more than a week prior to the trip. Poly offered to stay late so I could pick it up on my way home, but that's 9:00 PM, and no, I do not want to make an extra trip. I told her I would send a friend to pick it up at 3:00, and she assured me it would be ready. My friend returned to their shop just after 3:00. The door was locked, even though they are supposed to be open until 5:00, so he had to knock to be let in. He had cash from me to pay for it, and the person he was dealing with (not Poly, she was apparently "out"), said, "I'm glad you have cash, I don't know how to work the machine". Terrific. What if I hadn't given him the cash? He dropped the skirt at my office. I tried it on and, while it is a tiny bit shorter, it is not the length I had pinned it to. It's still too long. I paid $40, inconvenienced my friend with this errand, and I still have a wardrobe problem. I'm beyond frustrated. I read all of these great reviews which convinced me to try this place, and yet, somehow, I've had a zero star experience. read more

I needed a navy dress hemmed for my engagement shoot and am so glad I found Stitches. Alterations can be stressful, but Poly was calm and kind. When I put on my dress to show her how much needed to be taken off the bottom (I'm 5'4"), Poly also noted that the bodice was sagging a bit and she could add boning so it would have some structure. I didn't think of that at all but as you can tell from the photo (taken by the amazing Valory Evalyn), it made such a huge difference. I cannot speak more highly of Polly! After having a tailoring nightmare last year, I was nervous to take my bridesmaid dress to another seamstress. I messaged the business on FB, and Polly was super responsive and flexible. I was able to take my dress in the next day and received a quote. So luckily, my dress only needed to be hemmed but I was still shocked at the quote she gave me! Very fair and reasonable IMO. So formal dress stores need to start making long dresses for short people because all the long dresses seem like it's for really tall girls only. So I bought a long dress from Windsor and found Stitches to alter the bottom of it making it to my height. I'm so glad they was able to get it done in 2 days even tho they were busy.
