Ashley is wonderful. In late 2021, I had a late Halloween costume that I realised (two days before Halloween!) was too large for me, especially around the arms. I spent the evening researching places where I could get my costume altered the next day, the day before Halloween, and decided on Piedmont Alterations. I lived nearby, so I took the 20 minutes walk down to explore Piedmont Ave and to hop down to Piedmont Alterations. It's a teeny little shop that I nearly missed... I'd thought it was a support for the much larger building behind/above it! Turns out that it's Ashley's store, and she does all her magic in this little space! I don't know how she does it, but she does. In the shop, she has made room for a rack of clothing she's working on, her counter and sewing machine/tools, and a privacy curtain for customers to check out her work. I popped in and was introduced to the owner herself. Ashley was busy with other a few other customers' projects, and furthermore she would have to leave a little bit early that day to attend a Halloween party... but she had me try on the costume, put a few pins in it to mark the adjustments she would be making, and then told me that she would be able to do it! I would be able to pick it up within 1-2 hours. It was a very reasonable price for a rush job: I believe $30 or somewhere in that range? The costume ended having no problems at all. I'm very glad I went to Ashley. If I hadn't, I would've worn a pretty baggy costume around! I'm amazed that Ashley was able to take the rush job on the day of and deliver so wonderfully. I would recommend anyone who needs alteration work done to go to Ashley. She is such a wonderful and pleasant woman as well. She has been in the area for years and years, and I imagine that she is humble and hard-working as ever. I believe from past reviews that her work has been unwaveringly excellent, and she is no-nonsense when it comes to doing the best work she possibly can and delivering quickly. Ashley is a magical human being. If I could give 6 stars, I would. I had a bridesmaid's dress for a wedding that ALMOST fit. Meaning it didn't fit, but hypothetically it could have. I realized this FAR too late, of course, and in a panic, called Ashley to see if I could come in the next day. She was calm, kind, and confident. She told me "I can fix this" and I left the dress with her for the last remaining week I had before the wedding. When I went back to try it on (before heading out for the wedding weekend the next day), it fit PERFECTLY and you couldn't tell any alterations had been made. I almost cried. Ashley does great work. She replaced the lining in a beloved leather jacket. It was a big job that took a lot of skill. She even sewed the label back on. She promised it within a week, but when I called on the pickup day, she said she'd been sick and hadn't started it yet. I wished she'd called to give me a new expected pickup date. I've gone to this shop many times, mostly for getting pants hemmed or repairing an item that's been damaged. The tailor has always been very friendly to me. She invariably has something nice to say about how I look, which is very sweet :) Her prices are extremely reasonable ($12 for a hem) and your item is ready to be picked up in typically less than a week. Today, I dropped off some pants for a hem. She told me that she was going on vacation next week and wanted to know if I could pick them up on Friday. I told her I was going out of town on July 4th, so she said she would have them ready for me by tomorrow! I greatly appreciate this because I will need them before she gets back at the end of July. NOTE: She's closed on Sundays and Mondays and accepts cash only. I highly recommend this place! read more

This is my FAV place to get anything altered or repaired. I took in my favorite jacket that had been through HELL and she made it better than it was before. Seriously. My sister is trying to steal it from me now. She also fixed a favorite cardigan of mine, hemmed some pants that are now my favorite work pants, and patched up some shorts for me. Ashley was great! I went to her with a sari blouse that was my mom's and didn't quite fit me. I was a little nervous about it because it was for my wedding, and it was 41 years old, so it was truly one of a kind. As others have noted this is a very small shop on Piedmont Ave. but not to worry Ashley is a skilled tailor. I took 11 button-up shirts here, two jackets (one was leather) and a pair of pants and all of them were tailored right. Her prices are fair and the hours convenient. I'll be back soon. 2.15.13 UPDATE: I've had to take back two other shirts three times to get the sleeves right and now one of them is coming apart at the wrist seam. They also happened to be two of my favorite and most expensive shirts. So I'll be coming back for a fourth time this weekend, and a little bit disappointed. read more

A friend of mine needed to alter a few pairs of jeans that he purchased before his trip to Italy. I figured that I should go ahead and alter some pants that I purchased years ago as well. I never wore them because they were too long, but hey they were a good deal at the outlet store. The place is really tiny. It gets a little crowded with 3-4 people inside. But the person there was very nice. There's a corner where you stand on a miniature raised platform. A curtain wraps around you so that you can change into your article of clothing in private. She made markings as needed and asked what needed to be done. Took less than a week or so for the alteration. I'm very happy with my pair of pants. She did a nice, clean job on it. I paid about $13 to get my pants hemmed. I'm not sure what's expensive/inexpensive. But it wasn't too bad for me. My friend's jeans were both hemmed and tapered in a bit and he paid around $25 or so for each pair. By the way, it's cash only and you pay when you pick up! read more

I needed an alteration for my favorite jeans and I walked into her very cute tiny shop and spoke with her about my jeans. She was very pleasant to speak to and paid full attention to my needs. Wow. I was so surprised at my experience at Piedmont Alterations today especially in light of the positive reviews. I am even wondering if the woman I met today was the Ashley everyone rated because she was so not friendly or welcoming at all. I arrived there wanting to discuss altering a skirt. There was someone in the dressing room at the time. When I got to the door, the tailor (I believe an Iranian woman) opened it and told me I needed to wait. She did not even say hello. So I thought OK, I'll just wait here. Just as the door was closing another woman walked up dressed very nicely etc... and came to the door. The tailor immediately welcomed her in to help her with a pick up. It was an awkward moment and I was left standing outside waiting while she tended to another customer who came after me. (mind you I have brown skin and was in sweat pants and this woman was white and dressed in nice suit pants etc...) The way she related to each of us was like day and night. So instead of waiting I took a walk down the street to run another errand. I came back and she was with someone else who was in the process of changing in the dressing room. She looked up at me and just said "Sorry! You have to wait," in a somewhat irritated tone. I got the feeling she didn't want to have me as a customer which felt so strange. A minute later she gets up and opens the door. I explained to her I just wanted to show her a skirt and ask her a question about whether she can do anything with it. She finally let me come in. I showed it to her and she said she could absolutely not tailor it. So I ended up leaving, going down the street and showing it to a tailor in the material shop who ended up doing it. Wow -- I've been living here in Piedmont for 7 years and this is a first. Very disappointing. read more

I hate to write a negative review - but, took a bridesmaid dress in for an easy hem. On the phone I was quoted $13 - a price I've received at other locations for easy hems. Take the dress in, get it measured up, she gives me a ticket, I look at it the next day and it says $45! Yikes, major price hike. Then, for three days straight I stopped by during normal hours and the shop was closed. I called, and no response or return call. I'm stressed. The wedding is the next day. But fine, I keep my cool. THEN, my fiance picks up my dress the day of the event - and when I get it, I'm pretty sure she didn't even hem it - or was completely completely mistaken on my measurements and took maybe an inch off total. I had to hold it up the entire wedding. Waste of my money, and time. I'm pretty upset still but can't get a hold of anyone to even get anything in return. read more

The lady did a good job hemming my pants. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars and a word of caution- when I tried my pants on for her to mark them for hemming, she kept tugging and pulling them down. I don't know about anyone else, but my pants don't end up falling down that far with regular wear. So what ends up happening is that, after alteration, they are a smidge too short. So don't let her do that. Otherwise though, she did a good job, decent prices, it was quick to drop off and pick up. I will be going back soon. But I won't let her pull my pants down so far this time. read more

Love this place! She's never let me down, and has even fixed another tailors mistake (which is very tough to do). I find her prices reasonable and she works quickly. Well, that was easy. I needed a pair of pants taken in at the waist by about two inches -- remind me, why did I buy pants that were too loose? I went in, tried them on for her, she marked and pinned them, and I came back a week later. Voila, a perfect fit. $25 seems very reasonable. read more

Truly a tiny place. It's like she is in a little glass display case, although there is a curtain for you to get behind so you can try stuff on and have her measure you. But there's barely room to turn around. No wonder she is only here 3 days a week! (weds-saturday) This means it's best to drop off stuff midweek if you want it back without much wait. But even if you don't do that, it's not so bad, because because the woman works FAST. She hemmed two pairs of jeans for me - I dropped them off Friday afternoon and got them Saturday afternoon. (don't look at me like that - they were fancy jeans with wide legs and complicated seams and stuff and the hemming was too hard for me!) She hemmed each of them with the appropriate thread so it matched the style and the color of the rest of the jeans. Nice work, and ok prices. Not cheap, but I feel like she really won't mess it up. read more

Tried here based on a friends recommendation, little bitty place on Piedmont. Ashley is great! Have been here twice now for bridesmaid dresses, one to have shortened and taken in, and the other to have adjusted in the back. Both times I was in and out quickly and the dresses were done in my time frame for the wedding at a great price, especially considering what they charge at places like Davids Bridal. Very happy with the result of both, she obviously knows what she's doing and is very experienced. Will be taking her all of my alterations. read more

Ashley just narrowed my wide legged jeans-no lycra, only 100% heavy denim. Instead of taking them in on one seam, she cut the pants down and narrowed on both sides. She also added two darts in the back of the waistband which made them truly tailored jeans. The alterations were seamless with the original work and I am AMAZED that they fit so snug yet are so comfortable even riding my bike. For $35, getting my baggy and too-large pants tailored so well is a deal. I am going back next month with two more pairs. read more
