We've been with Electronics World (EW) for now well over 20 years from the initial installation of speakers when the home was first built through the purchase of a number iterations of higher end audio-video devices and their set up, the maintenance and repair as rarely needed and most recently we updated our security camera system after about 10 years. Please avoid this store. They are very aggressive in pushing sales of home entertainment system but they charge a lot more on hardware and overcharge labor hours. Today they sold me a remote control for my home entertainment system. The remote sells for $218 on Amazon but they charge $499. When I called the manager, he said the extra cost is because they install the remote by programming. After a guy spent about an hour to install it, they charge me another hour of labor on top of the $499. When I asked the manager, he said he told me they would install it but that price does not include installation. The worst thing is the remote does not work! It does not do the things they said it would do! I want a refund! read more

It seems flashy and awesome at first, but buckle up, if you want that "new piece" of equipment or you need service. Down the road, you are going to pay a lot of $ for repairs and replacements. When I was a wee lad of 14 in ninth grade, I bought my first home stereo system from Electronics World. Though I wasn't purchasing the most expensive or exotic stuff they sold by far, they still treated me as a serious customer. When my parents built their new house, they had Electronics World do all the audio/video design, set-up, and products and have been quite pleased with these. When the outdoor porch speakers had problems, Electronics World fixed these in-house, in short order, free of charge despite them having been in the house for around ten years and most certainly out of their service plan. This is a local business dedicated to service for the Gainesville region. They have been doing this for years, since when CDs were first all the rage and have transitioned to DVDs, MP3s, and everything else. Would I trust them to wire my home for audio/video? Heck, I would trust them to wire the space shuttle. These guys know their stuff and their decades of staying in business despite being in a tough market speaks louder than words as to their quality. read more

Took three pieces there to be repaired: 1. cd burner, couldn't find parts, ok. 2. repaired stereo amp. it burned up a week later! 3. repaired bass guitar amp. kept two months, returned after it was supposed to be fixed, quit within 3 days. 4. all this cost me $250. with nothing to show for it. never again. read more

I just got off the phone with Electronics World, trying to get a quote for a pretty expensive (to me) piece of electronics. I called them because they are an authorized dealer of the item that I am about to purchase. I was quoted a good price from another authorized dealer, but I would prefer to deal somewhat locally, if possible. I didn't play games with him or lie about my price. I told him the price up front that I was offered and asked his opinion. He just said he wouldn't take that deal. Before I could even ask what he WOULD take, he hung up on me. One of the big screen monitors in our small church failed, and I took it to Electronics World for repair.First , they charged $50 for an estimate.The estimate was prompt enough. I approved it and they repaired it. It seems to work ok.BUT ! , with the $50 estimate and the $150 repair charge, we paid $200 to repair a monitor when a new one could have been bought for $229 from another source. I was a Computer Engineer for decades before I retired a few years back.This does not seem to be a sound and ethical business procedure to me. Once you pay the $50 for a diagnostic, you are committed. We won't be back for anything else. read more

I had an excellent experience at EW. They were very accommodating. For example, I mentioned to the manager that my subwoofer was scratched by the technician who installed our system, and without hesitation or even me asking, he immediately offered to replace it free of charge with a new one. When I decided that the sound quality of the loudspeakers that we had purchased was not up to my expectations, they gave me full price back to apply to an upgraded system. The hdmi on our TV went out and we called these guys to repair it. I told them from the beginning that I was pretty sure it was the main av board. The tech came out next day. I turned the tv on and he agreed it was the board literally after a minute. He then called his "boss" to check on the part and price. These guys were as squirrely and unprofessional as it gets. They were joking about random things, and when he got the first quote he refused to tell us what it was other than it was really high. Then they found the part at a better price and wanted us to place a full price deposit on the part.. We said we would be willing to pay half, and again, after talking with his boss, goes into some nonsense about if the part doesnt work or if they need to fix something else, we would have to pay a restock fee for the part.. He had no idea what that would be but we would have to pay it if a different part was needed. All of this interaction happened in a 10 minute period and the guy walked out with $85 bucks... More than lawyers make as my wife said.. lol Keep your money and call Geek Squad. That's what we did. They are nice, professional, very clear about fees and service and got the job done. read more

On December 24, 2004 our house burned to the ground. While devastated, we felt we had an opportunity to rebuild the house the way we had dreamed it should be. One of these dreams was to rewire with low voltage receptacles to power speakers, alarm systems, and computer systems. We researched several companies to carry this out while the house was being rebuilt. The one company which we felt could meet our need, but provide a quality produce was Electronics World. After talking to Mark we had full confidence in what they were offering and how they would carry it out. The workers who carried out this installation, plus servicing these products over the ten years we have had our system are still working for Electronics World. This not only says a lot for the company, but a lot for our confidence and faith with them. We have grown to know them almost as family. We can recommend Electronics World without hesitation. We have our church a/v system upgraded by Electronics world and that was worst experience I've ever had for any contractors. Not only their professional skills are poor, with many issues occurred during the course, but also they are very rude treating customers. They kept changing wording and terms, and always demanding payment on site. The salesperson called Ken is particularly difficult to deal with. In an effort to support local audio, I elected to buy a pair of headphones that I could have purchased for $45 cheaper at Best Buy (via rewards program). However, once I got home and tried them, I found that I did not enjoy them. Within 24 hours, I attempted to return the relatively cheap product (~$300.00). Rather than accept the return, the business pointed to their posted return policy (which I unfortunately did not notice when I purchased the headphone). The policy essentially was the manager's whim (all decisions on returns are the manager's). While I can sell the headphones myself, I should not have to, thus this store has inconvenienced me in a way that most retailers would not elect to do. I am relatively new to the area and I have always enjoyed supporting local audio. Unfortunately, these guys are the only game in a small town and I will have to either venture to Jacksonville to House of Stereo (http://www.houseofstereo.com/ , wonderful store, btw; great selection [far more expansive than this small town store offers], very knowledgeable staff; I've patronized their store many times over the last decade or so) or put yet another dollar in Amazon's (or Best Buy's) pocket. A shame. Customer service is the number one game for a local store. My impression is these guys saw me as small potatoes and they treated me as such. If I could give them zero stars I would. I had a very bad experience with Electronics World and in my opinion they do not rate a star at all. Their service center mishandled my TV repair by a speculative diagnosis which cost me $243.00 and did not fix my TV. The only thing the owner wants me to do is eat the 243.00 and come back for more spending. Not a chance! Whats the old proverb "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." I want to warn other consumers to be wary of this shop. In my opinion they are out to maximize their profits by seeing how much money they can extract from those that are not informed. Consider yourselves informed! The owner also took the time to call me at my office not to attempt to resolve the issue but to call me a lying B*****D for posting a blog review on another blog site.
