Electronic Laboratory has helped me twice over several years- once a 1978 vintage MCS receiver repair and most recently my Audio Technica turntable. They couldn't find a problem with it, so Jason, the owner brought the turntable to my house and set it up on my system so he could hear what I was hearing. While he was there, he also wired up the banana plugs I had purchased for my speaker wire because I didn't have the tiny screwdriver necessary. I mean- who does house calls in 2026? They did! There are a few technicians out there today who know how to work on vintage equipment. I highly recommend electronic laboratory for anybody who needs repairs not only to vintage equipment but to modern systems. They've moved! Never fear.., it's not far. I'm guessing their business doesn't rely too much on walk-in traffic, so they don't need a fancy retail store front! On this visit I've dropped off some unusual equipment from my photographic darkroom. But since 2013 I've been coming here to get vintage stereo equipment worked on. It looks like they have more workshop space in the new location... which is probably good since they do a big business in TV repairs. And TVs aren't getting any smaller! They are, as always, very busy. You'll drop off your equipment after checking it in for an evaluation. They have a price schedule for diagnostics, which is fair. NO LONGER A RELIABLE COMPANY TO DEAL WITH! I dealt with this company for well over ten (10) years. I believe Allen Shatten was the founder and CEO of the company, and supervised the technical repair operations. Over the next 7-8 years I found their prices to be fair, and the service and performance to be very good to excellent. Apparently some 2-3 years ago Allen went into semiretirement and turned the day-to-day operations over to his son. Since that time the service has been practically nonexistent. I let them pick up a very expensive subwoofer for repair that I had purchased circa 2002 when I had a state-of-the-art audio/video system installed in my home. They promised repair and delivery within 4-6 weeks. After 6-8 months of endless excuses and/or nonresponsivness, I just decided to write the experience off and have a new subwoofer installed. Wow, wow, WOW! These people are terrible! Where do I start? My BRAND NEW LG TV had some light leakage on the side of the TV so I called LG and they sent this shitty company to come pick up my TV and fix it. Mind you, I live in Miami and this establishment is based out in Pompano Beach (About an hour drive more or less..... This will be important later in the story). When they arrive to pick up my TV, the guy picking it up clearly sees the problem and the guy he's talking to over the phone is not comprehending that there's a problem. 5 mins later, there is a full on argument between the guy picking up my tv and the guy over the phone (That should've been my red flag). Anyways, the guy over the phone agrees to pick up my TV anyways. Fast forward a week later, they are ready to deliver my TV but only between 9 AM - 12 PM. The problem is that they only work weekdays and me..... just like any other human being, has a job to attend and can't wait for those delivery times. I spoke to the manager of my building the night before that this company will be delivering my TV the next day. He agreed to handle it told me to tell them to take it to the loading dock when they arrive. I called the lady on the phone and told her what to do. The next day they arrive to my building and go to the front desk ( I clearly told her the loading dock the night before). Of course the front desk guy refuses to accept the TV. They called me and I missed the call so I called them back 4 minutes later. (I have the time stamps). After I call back the lady on the phone tells me that the guy delivering was at my apartment for 30 minutes and wasted their day there. Excuse me? Is it my fault your dumb ass employees aren't smart enough to call me as soon as there is a problem? I was more upset at the fact she said that, "I WASTED HER TIME" Who says that? So I ask her to drop my TV at my office and she refuses to do it because it's against company policy, she can only deliver it to the address on the paper. There are 3 people working out of a shit hole garage, I assumed it was her son, husband and her. Bitch what, "company"? You are the definition of a Small Business. Now she was being difficult. She had the audacity to tell me to take a day off of work for them to deliver my TV or drive up to Pompano Beach. I left work early that day and made the drive because I have been without my TV for about 3 weeks at that point. I get there and the lady wants to act fine and dandy. I tell her I just want my TV so I can get home. I go to the back and the husband starts giving me a long bullshit excuse on how my building wouldn't accept my TV and I just tell him. "Honestly I don't care. None of it matters because I am already here." Side note - Excuse are like assholes... Everyone has one and they all stink.... JUST GET THE JOB DONE! My work order for repair to a flatscreen tv under manufacturer's warranty was assigned by LG to this company. LG told me the repair company would call within 24 hours. They didn't. I waited a couple of more days and still didn't hear from them. I called and spoke with a representative named Jen. She said "Oh, you were next on my list to call." I gave her my address and as soon as she heard it was a condo she said "You'll have to check with your management and see if they require insurance for us to do the repair." Having just had repair work done recently, I knew this was not a requirement. She repeated, that I would have to call the condo management and then call her back. I told her she was wasting everyone's time, and that it was unnecessary. She said, "Well, then, just call LG and get someone else to do your repair." After we hung up, i called our condo manager and she said she had never heard of any buildings requiring insurance for a TV repair. I called Jen back, and she said, "We won't be servicing your TV. I've written an email to everyone here telling them not to schedule your service." I said, "Wait a minute, i did what you said and as I told you we don't require insurance." She said, "That doesn't matter, we're not doing the job." I see others have had trouble with this company on warranty repairs. i would strongly suggest you don't go near them. If I could give a review with zero stars I would. Do yourself a favor, if you have a Marantz # AV8802A that wont power on, get a reputable local electronics repair shop to replace the .38 cent Capacitor for you for a fair $ 100-even $ 200. And DO NOT PAY the OUTRAGEOUS $600 + that this "Marantz approved service center" company will charge. We contacted Electronics Laboratory in Pompano after a failed power on attempt on our Marantz #AV8802A receiver/processor by email after finding them listed on Marantz.com as the only authorized service center in Florida. After reading some forums etc we were all but certain that we had a blown control power board capacitor. The repair seemed easy with a very cheap capacitor, a little solder and some circuit board knowledge. Ultimately we asked Electronics Laboratory if we drove the 3 + hours down from Orlando if they could diagnose and possibly fix it in same day. They indicated they could diagnose it at least and charge would be $ 100 +/- for the diagnostics and then if we repaired the unit that amount would go towards parts and labor and it was possible they could repair same day. The first red flag was that they didn't mention prior to my arrival that only cash would be accepted for same day diagnostics/repairs as a check would not have time to clear and they do not accept credit at all. I reluctantly paid the diagnostic fee in cash and waited. About 40 mins later they contacted me to say that it was something they could fix same day and would take about 1-2 hours and it would be $615. I asked if it was just the control power board capacitor as suspected and they advised me that no "the whole circuit board needed to be completely rebuilt". Trusting my gut, I declined the repair and went to retrieve the unit. They were rude telling me I was "insane to not proceed with the repair". Then made me wait while they "put it back together". We decided to do it ourselves and purchased the capacitor from Mouser for .38 cents and paid shipping of less than $10. When we opened the unit we discovered that they had already begun replacing our bad capacitor, as there was no capacitor but new solder in place. But instead of just putting the unit back together repaired without disclosing it was repaired - (best case), they actually removed the newly soldered in replacement capacitor they had installed assuming I am sure had driven half the day that I would surely accept the outrageous cost and they closed up the unit and left it with no capacitor at all. I requested they return my capacitor and they in fact shipped me back a capacitor that had been removed with a sharp object like a screwdriver. The unit is working fine now without a rebuilt circuit board and just the suspected capacitor replaced. I will be contacting Marantz with this information as well. read more

They close at 2pm every day and if FEDEX doesn't pick up by then it just sits there. I came back from an out of town trip and found my Denon home theatre receiver DOA. With a UM/UF football game only a few days away I considered buying a new receiver but I really liked this Denon, which was a $1,200 receiver that I purchased less than 5 years ago. There were only a couple of authorized service centers within driving distance and the one in WPB (closest to me) said they no longer do this type of service. So I decided to make the drive to Electronic Laboratory to give them a shot. They were able to diagnose the problem the same day I dropped it off and fixed it the next day. The repair was not inexpensive (mostly due to replacement part cost) and it was a long ride each way to drop off and pick up. It still cost far less than buying a new receiver and I got it back in time for Saturday's game. Very happy with the service. read more

Sent my Marantz surround receiver in for repair. Wasn't happy with customer service at all. Actually they don't have any customer service. They didn't call me to let me know what was wrong with it after it sat there for weeks. They don't accept credit cards, get a square account already it's 2019! Once I received the unit back the problem I sent it in for was fixed but I couldn't use the On Screen Display which means I can't set ANY of the settings on the receiver. You know me I'm totally Retro .I recently re acquired a Sony stack from the nineties and after a few months of use I had broken one of the wires that connected my speakers to my tonearm. I asked a friend in California Dan who does fix stereos what I should do and he suggested that I do a search for a company that repairs TV's and stereos close by my home as opposed to sending my stereo all the way out to California to have him solder a wire. When I saw that this shop was so close to home I had to drive down with my turntable and check it out. With in 3 minutes my wire was re soldered. I am so grateful that the company is so close to my home that they do quality work within seconds depending on the problem mine was easy .I did include a photo of their prices But I guess because mine was such an easy job Mine was a mere $20 to re Solder the wire .This company repairs anything electronic televisions stereo components you name it and most of their work is warranty work which does take some time but mine was not a warranty item and was just a wire that needed soldering back to the tone arm so I was pretty lucky to get in-and-out within 5 minutes. Well, what more can I ask for? I bring it in Monday and I get a call Wednesday morning saying it's done. No fooling around here. They got right to the task of crackling volume and Tape1/2 inputs on a late 1970s Kenwood digital receiver. It needed a good cleaning (as I have always had to have done every 10 years or so. New to Florida so I had to find a reliable electronics repair shop. This is it!). Brought it home, hooked it up and I was JAMMIN' to some Foreigner. Thank you Electronic Lab. Now for my 'ancient' Denon receiver. The only surprise was they do not accept credit cards and they require an up front diagnostic fee. ($80 in my case). I only had $53 on hand. My dryer was not drying and I called the company that I had the warranty with. They made an appointment for me with Electronic Laboratory. They were super accommodating. They were able to give me a late afternoon appointment and Liz in the office even gave me her cell number to call if I needed further assistance after hours. Chris was the technician and could not have been nicer or more helpful. He was able to get the dryer to work properly and showed me how to clean the dryer periodically. Needed service on my new washing machine. Was referred to this company by LG. I received a text from Electronic Laboratory stating they would be in touch w/me in 48 hours to schedule an appointment. I reached out to EL via email (to which I never received a reply) in addition to calling them. I finally spoke with Liz only after calling 6 times and being told to hold on with no one coming back on the line. Liz then claimed she did not need the RNN number which was provided to me by LG but my last name which I gladly provided. She said she did not have my name on file. I came to this company because they were "ARE" DENON's authorized repair center. That was a few years back, and I learned that they service most (if not ALL brands). I drive 50 minutes each way to have this family business handle my matters. I export used electronics to many countries in South America, and due to freight costs, I can't afford mishaps. It's been 7 years with no complaints from any of their services. AND YES, I've waited some lengths of time, if parts aren't available. Since I am in this business, at times I've contacted DENON, ONKYO, and PIONEER directly , and there are no better answers... If the manufacturer does not ship the parts to them, or YOU, or ME == it just can't be replaced. I am a Spanish speaking male, with a heavy English accent, and this family has been nothing but kind, understanding, and communicative with me and my issues. I find them to be: honorable, hard working, and extremely professional. Again, I drive over 2 hours each time i need service! I've recently had a $1900 ONKYO receiver back and forth, directly with ONKYO for a 6 months period within its first year....and no excuses were provided. I took it in on a Wednesday expecting to hear back the following week, but I got a call the very next day and Al told me it was OK, it had just frozen up and there would be no other charges. 10/22/2017 Overall Selection Service This store is incredible for different reasons, friendly attention but most important honest and knowledgeable about their expertise. They would tell you if they can fix it or if it's worth it, so they won't just tell you "We'll fix it" just to take your money. I took a CR-7A Discrete Nakamichi Cassette Player/Recorder that seemed to be frozen with lights on but not moving. There aren't too many places in the United States that can professionally work on a product that the company does not exist anymore even being in their time the best cassette player/recording company in the world. In the US probably there are 3 or 4 that can work on these electronics and this store in Pompano Beach, Florida are able to stand up to any of the others with personal proofs. They were able to work on it and fix it perfect, I am very happy because this unit is the second best unit Nakamichi made behind the famous Dragon model and I really love how it works. The price was adequate because this unit is worth about $2000 when is in mint condition which this one is. Like I said before, this lab did everything they promised and I was happy to be able to drive 60 miles to this place and well worth it to bring it directly to them and not mail it and risk damages on the transportation, insurance and aggravations. When You call them, there response is that they will call you at the end of the day. Don't hold your breath. But if you don't pick up your equipment two weeks after is ready they charge you $5.00 per day. I wish I would of looked them up on Yelp and read their reviews before using them. All the negative feed back is 100% correct. I dropped my receiver off over 6 weeks ago and still don't have it back. I asked how long the repair would take and was told 2-3 days. After a week I had not heard from them so I called. I was told there was no problem with it and I could come pick it up. I told them it always shuts off after 5 minutes. It always does every time. So I was told they would look at it and call me back at the end of the day. No call that day so after 4 days I called them back. Was told they weren't able to get the unit to shut down would try again and call back at the end of the day. Again no call so I called them back after a few days. Again told they couldn't figure it out and would call back at the end of the day. I told the girl this keeps repeating what's going on. She Promised they would call back that day which this time they did. Stayed a board was out would take 3-5 days. After a week again of not hearing from them was told it would be another week. Called them after a week I was told this Monday. I called on Monday was told they were putting it on the board that day and they would call me at the end of the day. Again no call. So today is Friday and I all again. A guy answers and gives me the same answer they are putting it on the board today and will call me at the end of the day. I tell him it's already been 6 weeks this is crazy. He tells me they just got the part today. I call him out on his lie and tell him I know they have had the part at least a week.
