Food here was AMAZING. Portions were generous and flavors authentic. The recommended spinach and cheese tamale was unique and delicious--worth going to just to try this! Sauces on the tacos were fresh and everything was served quickly. Service solid, ambiance is more a quick lunch spot but perfect for that. Definitely check it out for a quick bite!

We stayed in a hotel nearby and were craving for good non-fast food lol. Found this place by searching breakfast burrito and their chorizo burrito is quite decent with potato and ground meat! For only $10 this is definitely value for quality food option.

We all had different breakfast burritos and shared a beef and a chicken enchiladas. The small Mama and Papa establishment truly felt home like. They made us feel Like family and the mild green hot sauce and the habanero and red hot sauce were all amazing everyone at our table was able to find a version to their liking. We shared a hibiscus, mango, and Horchata drinks which all were delicious!

I love this place sooo much! There's a several shops in this street but have noticed this one always stays busy, it's like a hidden gem that isn't so hidden. I've taken all my coworkers on my team here. You walk up and order at the counter but they bring your food to you and clean it up. I have had the quesabirria tacos, Birria ramen, ribeye taco, burrito, tamale, rice, and elote. My friend had the California burrito this week. I tried a bite and have been thinking about it since. I typically split the quesabirria plate and spinach and cheese tamale and am impressed every time. The food is consistently good, and all of the staff is super nice too. The only thing be had that I'd pass on in the future was the elote, which I found difficult to eat in the cup and wasn't as flavorful as everything else I've tried on the menu. Overall- I definitely recommend this place!

Really delicious tacos - I tried a carne asada, al pastor, chicken tinga, and birria all for ~$12 and also shared some chips and guac + queso - YUM. Service was fast and friendly- and when my friend shared she doesn't do dairy they came back after we ordered to check if she wanted crema on the side (she did and so appreciated it). It feels like a whole in the wall that can seat maybe 30ish people but there's also outdoor seating if needed

Near my hotel too hot in Phoenix to walk too far. Great gem of a small restaurant the decor so cute the people tending to the to go orders very friendly. Serval people were there . Since it was a to go order I can't speak in the bathrooms or other details but the California burrito I got was amazing. Next work trip here I'll eat there with my coworkers. Highly recommend.

If you're looking for delicious tamales in the heart of Phoenix, you'll find them at El Zaguan Bistro where the family welcomes you into their restaurant and the food is made with love. I walked in one evening as I was looking for authentic Mexican food for dinner. El Zaguan Bistro caught my eye with its colorful decorations and its cozy ambiance. Looking over the menu, I saw everything from tacos to tostadas to pozole. The lady at the register was very helpful explaining the foods which I was not as familiar with. I ordered three tamales, one red (beef), one green (chicken), and one vegetable. The tamales were excellent! Each tamale was starchy and smooth. The cheese and spinach combination in the vegetable tamale was cheesy and flavorful. The seasoned, tender meat in the chicken tamale and beef tamale shredded nicely and melted in my mouth. I took my time to really enjoy each bite. These tamales made a very satisfying dinner and put El Zaguan Bistro on my list of places to come back to the next time I'm in town.

Great, personable service and recommendations provided by the staff. Try the Mexican coffee if you like cinnamon. I got the breakfast burrito and the different hot sauces complimented the burrito. I also purchased the house made pineapple juice - so refreshing!

BELIEVE THE HYPE. This place is legit good. I stopped by for a breakfast burrito and a as warmly greeted by the husband and wife owners. It's a small place but cute inside. The breakfast burrito was fantastic with the perfect blend of cheese, chorizo and more. And the wrap held it up well and it was uniformly heated. Just delicious.

Went for "Happy Hour all day." It was exactly what we wanted. We had such a great time outside because their tables are in the shade. The staff is attentive and charming. Just because we were outside, we weren't forgotten. They brought our food and came out twice more. The tacos are extremely flavorful and the margarita was perfect.

This place is INCREDIBLE! Located downtown, I was blown away by the entire experience I had here. The owners are the best and made me feel very welcomed. My husband and I came here for brunch and each ordered burritos. I had the chorizo and he had the steak. Both were delicious and very filling. The chile morita sauce was the perfect addition to the burrito too, not spicy and extremely flavorful. We sat outside but they also have indoor seating. I can't wait to come back!

Go here; it's Paradise. So authentic and flavorful. Super nice staff with excellent service. Absolutely insane chorizo breakfast burrito. Plus it's cute and colorful inside! I would eat here every single day if I could! Also they give you full bottles of salsa if you dine in--all three are excellent. I'm a salsa snob and this is some of the best I've had in a while.

Love this place! Was visiting PHX for four days as a +1 while my gf had a work conference. Loved the food so much, we came here twice for lunch. First time I got the Quesabirria tacos. These tacos really were "crisped to perfection," as the menu so perfectly stated! The birria was especially good! The day we were leaving, we decided we had to come to El Zaguan Bistro one last time. I was all set to get the Quesabirria tacos again, but something told me to get something else. I was really yearning for a burrito. I went with their Lunch burrito. Great choice. Could they knock it out of the park twice? Yup. They sure did. The burrito was massive and absolutely delicious. I liked it even better than the tacos I had a day earlier. I can confidently say it was the best burrito I ever had. You can see it in the photo below. Honestly, this place was so good. I don't know if I'll be back in Phoenix anytime soon. But if I am...you can bet your two dollar tulips and mountain of gum that I'm coming back to El Zaguan Bistro. Probably twice! read more

Glad to have a Mexican food restaurant in the downtown area, where you can grab a quick bite. They went into the old Coney Grill location and they really revitalized the preexisting restaurant location and infused it with a wonderfully done Mexican aesthetic. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The food came out in under 10 minutes. Three El Pastor tacos, which were packed with flavor and tasted as though they were freshly made. The rice and beans were on the bland side for my taste, BUT as soon as I added their red sauce to the rice - the beans were a perfect compliment to the rice and I'd wished I'd only had more of each one! They say you can order via WhatsApp - that's the only online method or can call in to place an order, but there was no answer when we tried... that was the only downside, can't really order ahead. Still would happily wait a few minutes though for some delicious food at El Zaguan Bistro again. read more

Yum yum yummmm! It's a new restaurant in downtown Phoenix. The place is quaint but still manages to have ample seating. The owners and cooks KNOW how to make great Mexican food. I ordered the quesabirria and it was phenomenal!! Extremely flavorful. The brothy dipping salsa was out of this world and had a little bit of a kick, enough that anyone can enjoy, even if you don't like spicy food. The prices are generous considering just how delicious their food is. I think I over heard that they will be having a liquor license soon too :) Don't walk, run to make your order and treat your bellies. This is a family owned business and they are extremely sweet and hard working. Kudos! read more

El Zaguan is a little cafe style bistro that delivers exceptional quality. Places like this make me sad that I don't live locally. I went with the taco plate and a sparkling water. The taco plate includes four however you like. I left the decision to the manger and was provided with four different types. 2 types of beef, one chicken, and one pork. The tacos are somewhat small but punch above their weight. For me the four were enough though I could've fought my way through two more. They have two types of sauces available to spice it up if you so desire. The seating options include four tables or some bar style seating as well as some outdoor options. The decor and overall vibe is simple and gives the place a genuine relaxed feel. The staff are super friendly as well. This place is awesome and highly recommended. Enjoy! read more

Hello, this place was extremely busy today. They did not seem to have a order situated with the numerous of people inside confused. I had submitted a order in advance, when I arrived, the male hispanic yelled at me because he did not hear me. They are not handing well the influx of customers. My friends and I were excited to try some Authentic Mexican food while we were in town, but this spot doesn't taste as authentic as you would think. It's a bit disappointing. I purchased a steak burrito and I wasn't really impressed. It was alright, but nothing to hype about. The red and green sauces did add a little bit of flavor. Pretty much anything you add on costs extra, and the burrito itself was already over $10, but I don't think it was worth it. They did have an updated payment system though, so that was cool, we love using Apple Pay! read more

I stopped in to grab lunch the other day. OMG!!! I had a salad with chicken and rice was SO, SO delicious! There was a lime avocado crema, another crema, grilled chicken, rice, salad greens. I also got a watermelon fresca... Also DELICIOUS! NO concentrate here. There was a small line but it went fast. The food is FRESH, the staff are friendly and the prices are very good. I didn't know this place was here. A definite pleasant surprise on Adams Street. I'm used to it being the vegan spot, the hotdog place and Dunkin donuts. Been putting this one off just because I drive by it everyday. I regret doing that now, this place is amazing from the staff to the food! A small kitchen but they sure know how to utilize every inch of it. The chilaquiles have a nice level of spice to be able to enjoy, the Jamaica is great a bit to sweet for my taste but enjoyable. Bought a meal and asked to use the restroom as a customer, the restroom was clearly for customers and I bought something but was refused to use the restroom. If you're downtown at lunch or breakfast time, this place is mandatory. Fresh ingredients, amazing marinades and salsas, and just the right amount of spicy. Chef Chuy is really an artist! The place is super clean and has a traditional charm. The menu may look simple at first glance but it has hidden delicacies like birria, cochinita pibil, and vegan tacos (which may have jackfruit or nopales depending on availability). The breakfast burrito was so light and tasty, ten times better than those "bertos" burrito shacks. And the chilaquiles are to die for! read more

On our way to Dunkin' Donuts we found a gem!This place has only been open for a month and a half, and we had the best chiliquilles we've EVER had (I eat them everywhere) & Café de Olla (Mexican spiced coffee). They grind their coffee, and I ended up getting one to go! If you are ever in the area... you need to come here! The owner was super sweet and talked to us the entire time. His customer service was as good as the food! read more

And somehow... it was just as good again. The meat tastes incredibly fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned, and you can literally watch them prepare everything right in front of you, which makes the whole experience even better. There's something so satisfying about seeing the tacos being made fresh instead of food just appearing from the kitchen. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. The servers were also super friendly and welcoming both times I came here, which honestly makes such a difference. Everyone had great energy, the service was quick, and the whole place just feels inviting and authentic. I honestly think the fact that I remembered this place so vividly for so long says everything. Usually when you revisit a restaurant after hyping it up in your head for years, it ends up disappointing you. But this place tasted exactly how I remembered it, fresh, flavorful, comforting, and absolutely worth the obsession. The octopus is grilled perfectly and it comes with rice and beans, so everyone gets a little of everything. For entrées, my number one pick is the Lobster and Crab Enchiladas with green sauce. I think about this dish at least once a week. The enchiladas are packed with lobster and crab, and the green sauce ties the whole thing together. Honestly, I could talk about this place all day. If you like Mexican food and seafood, you need to try it. Great food, big portions, and a menu that makes it hard to stop ordering.

Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

I inquired about their breakfast menu and was relieved to hear they were still serving. The staff member suggested the chilaquiles verde with two eggs, a dish I had never tried before. Been putting this one off just because I drive by it everyday. I regret doing that now, this place is amazing from the staff to the food! A small kitchen but they sure know how to utilize every inch of it. The chilaquiles have a nice level of spice to be able to enjoy, the Jamaica is great a bit to sweet for my taste but enjoyable. I had a fantastic experience at this Mexican restaurant! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making our dining experience enjoyable. The flavors of the dishes were authentic and mouthwatering. My only disappointment was the lack of good chips, which prevented me from giving it a full 5 stars.
