I hope you like beans with your arepa. Like a lotttttttt of beans. Pretty much had a whole can of beans with my order. There was so much black bean sauce that was almost all I could taste.

El Venezolano caught my eye on IG a year ago with their crazy chocolate toddy pictures. They've been on my need-to-try list since then, and was finally able to go. My wife and I both got their famed arepas, and were happy we did. The corn flour arepa was thick and chewy, and the stuffings were tasty. The camaron arepa had nicely sauteed plump shrimps and a generous amount of avocado. The pabellon had shredded beef that was tasty but a bit stringy, there was a good heaping of black beans, and the sweet plantains were a nice complement though would have wanted more. Price-to-size ratio could have been better, but not prohibitive. Would recommend a visit!

Quarantine Day 8: Another great Venezuelan find along the Danforth! We placed an order via UberEats. We started off with the El Venezolanito which is a sampler of 2 each of mini treats. This platter featured cheese as the main filling/topping for each bite. They included the arepas that were stuffed with cheese, cachapas (which is the pancake looking one) was also topped with cheese, tequenos was like a Venezuela cheese stick, empanadas had meat and cheese in them, and the patacones were a fried plantain base topped with cheese...so a lot of cheese! One of our mains was the Patacon Pernil. This was a roasted pork on a flattened green plaintain. It was covered in cheese, coleslaw, and garlic and pink sauce. Aside from being visually stunning with all the different colours, it was super tasty. The sauces were garlicky and tangy. The coleslaw was fresh and creamy. Together with the savory pork and the fried plantains it was great. The last dish that we tried was the Venezuelan Breakfast which is available all day. This is a plate with arepa, a scramble with tomatoes and onions, shredded beef, black beans, avocado, and cheese on the side. I was kind of surprised to see each component so separated out. Even the cheese was separate. This was nice though so you could customize the flavours of each bite. The very last thing I decided to indulge in was a passion fruit juice. They packed it really well - it had its own biodegradable tray. It tasted fresh. It was less sweet than I thought it would be, very true to what the fruit tastes like. It was a nice accompaniment to the fried items earlier in the meal. They had a lot of other exotic fruit juices as well that I'd definitely be back to try.

Great casual restaurant for Venezuelan cuisine in the city - one of the best places for arepas in Toronto. We ordered 2 fish dishes (salmon and king fish). Each fish dish came with 3 sides - we chose a combination of sauteed vegetables, salad, tostones (green plantains), cassava fries, and black beans as the sides. The salad (greens, onion, and avocado slices) and tostones were great. The shrimp & avocado arepa was also really good; toasty and crunchy in the outside, soft and flavourful in the inside.

A small size casual restaurant, clean and bright inside. Food is good in either portions size or quality size, cooked to order for most platters so, expect a bit of wait before food is served. Prices are good compared to meal size and service is good and quick.

remnants of my empanadas, tequenos and tostones. First time with Venezuelan food and it is so good here!

Amazing empanadas, and appetizers such as arepa; fruit drinks; main dishes and sides very good too!

Excellent and original food from Venezuela. My family and I came to Toronto for one week and found this place for Lunch. This is the real deal, we'll be back when in Toronto next time.

The place is ok, the food is also ok. The service is very slow, it took a while to someone even noticed I was there and even more to ask for the check. I ordered "El Venezolanito" with all kind of good food (see picture). I don't think I'll return.

Very friendly staff, food is delicious and affordable too! I always get their arepas but my favourite thing to get every time I go is their shareable platter which has mini versions of their best sellers. You definitely have to try their tequenos, so good!

Arepa Guys is set up at a local convenience but they're very welcoming. Chef owner Moises is a cool dude who seems quite passionate about Venezuelan food and culture. I came early and was politely asked to wait for the first dozen arepas (corn meal breads) to be grilled and baked to perfection. From the menu, I had their carne mechada: delicious slow-cooked shredded beef with a healthy mix of plantains, beans & cheese stuffed in the warm arepa. They had quite the variety of other fillings including chorizo, crab meat/shrimp, shredded chicken breast and eggs as well. Arepa Guys is open weekends only, and introduces this unique food to many of us for the first time. Their arepa was perfectly crisp on the outside and the shredded beef stuffing was a bit light in flavour. I did realize later that I missed out on their homemade cilantro, garlic and hot sauces. So apply some from the dine-in area when picking up an arepa to go.

My wife and I just left after having two pork arepas with pico de gallo and cheese, along with a tres leches, and we're already looking forward to our next visit - we don't come to the area often but we'll make the journey just for a taste of this again. Also, the man behind the counter and the lady who brought the food over (I regret not asking for their names) were extremely nice. As long as they're there, we'll be supporting them. I walked in and after taking a look at the relatively small menu, I decided I needed to try the joint's empanadas. I didn't know which of the four to order, so I asked the very helpful woman behind the counter to give me a couple of her favorites. Those turned out to be a Cheese Empanada and a Pabellon Empanada ("Shredded Beef, Cheese, Sweet Plantain, Black Beans"). I got them home a short time later and they were actually still hot! I started with the Cheese Empanada and I was blown away pretty much from the first bite. The salty, melty cheese within was absolutely irresistible, and the empanada itself was perfectly fried and essentially the ideal of what an empanada should be. The Pabellon Empanada fared even better, in my opinion. The perfectly proportioned filling ensured that every bite was pretty much perfect, and I should note, too, that the included zesty sauce only enhanced the concoction's overall impact. I'm definitely excited to welcome Arepatite to Midtown, and I can't wait to try their other offerings.
