First, this place is OPEN as of Fall 2022 (early summer in Chile) when I visited (late November…read more2022). I loved this place. Not only does this wine bar have the most extensive by-the-glass list I found anywhere in Santiago, they are also one of only two wine bars that keeps all of their wines in a temperature controlled area (very important--as most places don't have AC in Chile). All of the food I had was great--but my top favorites were the applewood smoked salmon, the loco plate, and the short ribs. I really enjoyed being able to try new wines from small, boutique producers in Chile (this is something you can only do in a few places in Santiago) and get recommendations from the really knowledgeable owner as well as the fact that they include a little tag on each glass so that you can keep track of what each wine in front of you is, if you do a flight of half glasses of wine like I did. The two best places for wines-by-the-glass and the best selection of wines from smaller producers are Bocanariz and Barrica94. No wine lover should leave Santiago without visiting both of these places.

I ordered the dolsot bibimbap. My meal came with six banchan, including anchovies and radish kimchi and one with cucumbers and sliced sausage. My entree came out hot and sizzling and I mixed it with the red pepper paste sauce. The bibimbap was okay - it satisfied my Korean food craving, but it wasn't the best bimbimbap I've ever had - there was something missing, but I can't quite put my finger on it. At the end of the meal, they gave me sliced apples for dessert which was nice. The service was excellent. They also offer Japanese sushi in addition to Korean food.l

This restaurant won my heart…read more I've been living in Santiago for a few months now, and I first ate in Ootoya with the sole intention of having a regular weeknight dinner. Zero high expectations. I got the Shirashi Sushi, and the fish were absolutely and absurdly fresh, cut to perfection, and the rice perfectly cooked. I was really impressed that the quality was so much higher than your regular japanese place. Second time I got the Sumo Ramen. I've had ramen in millions of different places, from high-end restaurants to roots japanese restaurants in the basement of a building. This one is the best one I've had, no doubt! The broth was out of this world and the noodles had an amazing texture. When I thought they couldn't cook ALL the menu so perfectly, I once again ate there, this time the Ootoya Soba - I still have no words for it. It's cooked in a special sauce that you just want to stop whatever you're doing and thank whoever brought this marvelousness upon the world. It's the perfect amount of spiciness so you can also enjoy the great flavor of the dish, which is seasoned to perfection. They're also very generous with the amount of seafood, which is not usual in restaurants. I highly recommend. They are good at absolutely everything that comes out of that kitchen. Huge fan, 10/10!

We started our meal with the empanada sampler and I wish I could have another right now. It was delicious! Each one was different and spectacular in its own way. Definitely order this dish. For our meal, I had the crab lasagna and my friend had a fish that I can't remember the name, but it came with a potato salad. We were both very pleased. Bonus of free WiFi while you dine. For a traveler without an International plan, this was a huge bonus. How would I be able to Yelp without it?! Thanks Comedor Central for being awesome. Over a couple of visits I was able to try: La Enjundia De Diablo, Cotrabando, Temporada, and Pisco is in the air. Truthfully the first two were preferred, more spicy than sweet. The second two were like smoothies with alcohol-also delicious, just hot differently. They were well presented and fabulous. For meals we had the steak and chimichurri, good if you love a big steak- a little too much for us. The beef and lentils were delicious and perfect for a cold winter evening. The next meals we tried were the cuttlefish croquettes which were very good, like a Japanese octopus ball. Great sauces. Then the fish of the day-Hake- with whipped potatoes(I think) and capers with veggies-outstanding. We also had a very good, filling, fish sandwich. I liked the sweet potatoes, a unique touch. The service was attentive without overdoing it. The first night when we came in everyone said hello, which made us feel very welcome. The atmosphere was fun, hipster, and inviting. So glad our hotel was nearby, couldn't have asked for a better restaurant to be near.
