This is one of the fanciest and most expensive meals we've had in a while, but definitely worth it…read more For the four of us we chose to do 9 plates, chef's choice, and 3 desserts, two mocktails, and a couple bottles of water, then tipped 15%. Came out to $360 total. The dishes and drinks were all beautifully presented, with a great use of color and texture. The service was top notch, and the ambiance was very futuristic or other worldly. Most important was that the flavor was amazing, and the portion sizes were enough to where after we shared the nine plates and three desserts, we were quite full. While not a meal we could afford on a regular basis, it's very much somewhere we would come back to for a special occasion.

They serve tapas and small plates, most of which are under $10 USD each - expensive for Chile but by US standards, comparable to a tasting menu at a fine restaurant. We ordered one of everything and had about 14 different dishes plus four glasses of wine and 2 cocktails for around $175. The restaurant has stylish decor and a club music soundtrack. Service was excellent and though I speak enough Spanish to get by, the servers were comfortable speaking English with us and made us feel welcome. We were one of 2 couples at 8pm but by 9:30pm it was packed with chic Chilenos. We liked everything we ate but our favorites were the scallops with mashed potato and Parmesan foam, the katsu Kobe beef sandwich, the pork, the caramelized tomato with smoked fish and the mushroom stuffed with crab. It's inventive food done well. Check it out if you're in the area. It's innovative

In fact, I'm sure I walked past it half a dozen times before realizing there was a restaurant at the bottom of the stairs. With a fun, modern decor, Gracia serves up traditional tapas with a gourmet flair. On a quiet Sunday night, the hubs and I decided to check it out. I ordered a glass of Carmenere and hubby had a pisco mule. Both were perfect. Before any tapas arrived, we were each given a small triangle toast, smeared with what looked like mayonnaise, topped off with a tiny sausage. This came served on a small disc that was actually a cross-section of a tree trunk or branch. Very cute and a nice surprise. We started with goat-cheese-stuffed piquillo peppers. The two piquillos were soft and bathing in a sauce reminiscent of a tomato bisque. We also had the fried calamari. We prefer our fried calamari to consist of both rings and tentacles, but this version has only rings. We were both disappointed by this but even more surprised that they had almost no flavor--no salt or paprika--and the "aioli dipping sauce" was just firm mayonnaise. Bummer. Perhaps our favorite dish was one we selected off the Tapas of the Day menu, a tuna tartar. Excellent presentation and delicious taste, despite the overpowering taste of wasabi (not my fave). The tartar came out in a perfect disc with a light soy sauce and seaweed on the bottom, delicious avocado on top. We also tried another dish of the day, a tiny taste of a beef filet topped with pate. This was good but left us wanting more. We also had the main dish of bacalao, one of our favorites to make at home. This version was very unique and much fresher than the dried-fried Puerto Rican version we are used to. This one arrived in a huge bowl on a bed of crunchy fried onions mixed with cooked tomato wedges and sliced olives. Even my husband, who hates olives, enjoyed this dish. For dessert, we shared the Gracia version of flan with two decaf coffees that did not disappoint. Overall, this is a great spot for late-night dining. Four stars for price and lack of seasoning in the calamari.

Although I'll admit I…read morewas also a little intimidated at the thought of not knowing what I'd be eating, I figured I'd have some clear favorites as it would be impossible for me to like everything on a blind tasting menu. I was so wrong...this meal was impeccable from start to finish. The staff was very efficient, friendly and described every dish as they served it so you knew exactly what you were getting. 040 is located downstairs at Tinto Boutique. It's simple, clean and intimate. Each table is decorated with a gold French bulldog figurine and there are small dishes with water to clean your fingers between courses - no utensils necessary (unless they bring them to you with a specific dish). Though the guide says it's mostly seafood, I found it pretty well-balanced. We opted for the Chilean wine pairing and the sommelier took his time to carefully describe each one. My personal favorite was the Imaginador Pedro Parra Itata 2017 because it was so different with a smokey finish. The courses are brought out at a great pace - slow enough to savor and enjoy each bite (and building up a little anticipation for the next!), but quick enough to not feel like a dragged out tasting experience. Everything is fresh, flavorful and delicately prepared with gorgeous presentation. Though I loved them all for different reasons and can't say I had just one favorite, the dishes that surprised me most were probably the garlic & almond ice cream that accompanied the salmon and a rice and peanut butter combo wrapped in fish (I'm not doing it justice with that description). It was honestly one of the best dining experiences of my life. For the quality of food that you get, I think it's actually reasonably-priced. We all joked that we could have gone for a round 2 of the meal (not because it wasn't enough food but because we literally loved everything on the menu). Of course the cherry on top is getting to go upstairs to 009, the exclusive speakeasy on the rooftop of the hotel, after your meal to enjoy some amazing handcrafted cocktails...but that's a separate review. From start to finish, I loved everything about 040 and will absolutely be back next time I'm in Santiago.

We especially loved the risotto nigiri, crab cakes, octopus egg, and the tart! Prior to coming, I heard a lot of complaints about the decor....it could have been better as it didn't seem as cozy or intimate, but it did not effect our fantastic experience. Where the dining room wasn't so cozy, the speakeasy Room 09 had excellent ambiance! I also read about people complaining of the elevator, but My opinion is that they are negative Nancy whiny babies. The service was very friendly but it would have been helpful to have more English speaking waiters to explain the dishes better. We also went to Borago the next night and both agreed with should've just gone to 040 again instead! The one thing that would be a beneficial addition to the experience is a booklet that details the coursed dishes so we can more accurately explain to all our friends back and in my food/travel blog!
