Burrito was smaller than how it appears in photo.
Bryan C.

Thankfully, in their menu they had a vegetarian section. I was stuck between the Burrito Zacatecas because it had mashed potatoes in it and the Burrito Grande Vegetariano because according to the waitress it was bigger. So I asked if they could put the mashed potatoes in the Burrito Grande Vegetariano, the waitress said yes. I was disappointed at the size of my burrito. It did not look like a Grande-size burrito. It looked like a mediocre burrito. I honestly think they just gave me the Burrito Zacateca instead. I was disappointed in both the size and taste of the burrito and the rice was dry and chewy. Both rice and beans were ordinary and definitely was not worth the cost of the dish. Left me feel lacking and I had to eat more chips to fill me up. Upon receiving a second helping of salsa for my chips, my friend and I noticed a stringy white hair a substance sticking out of my salsa. Eyew. I really wanted to like this place, but the food spoke for itself...and it definitely was not worth the price they were charge while lacking in portion and quality. It's a shame.

Dead roach including body, head and legs

El Vaquero Monroe... Was a regular carryout customer. I bit in to a dead cockroach tonight! Called and spoke with someone claiming to be manager named Monica. She wanted to dispute this with me, so I decided to share a pic of this "not so tasty treat" that was in my meal. Buyers beware!!! I will never eat there again. The worst part was the attitude they had when I reported this, almost insinuating that I was lying!!

Spinach enchiladas and jumbo blue curaçao margarita!

Having a good friend in Monroe means exploring the culinary offerings from time to time available. El Vaquero has come to be a regular in our restaurant rotation because of their consistency and general deliciousness. Daily drink specials (think jumbo margarita for $9 special) also never hurt anyone either. In my delving into the menu, I usually either order the spinach enchiladas or the mushroom quesadilla, which is on the a la carte menu on the back. I also have had them do the mushroom quesadilla in the choose your own combo platter on the back too. There's something just perfect about their sautéed shrooms and the crispy tortilla and gooey cheese. The guacamole is also served in an edible tortilla bowl and is simple but pleasant. As someone not fond of crazy inclusions in guac, it's right up my ally. Salsa is served in personal ramekins which is also nice so you can double or triple dip to your hearts content. Service has always been friendly and prompt--even with a line to be sat. There is an outside patio and bar as other dining options. I would highly recommend El Vaquero to anyone in search of solid Tex-Mex in Monroe!

Delicious box to go after we ate a ton of amazing food!

So happy we finally stopped here! Just moved to the area and we were so glad that the staff here is so kind and wonderful. I was so cranky and irritated from my day and as soon as I smelled the great food in the parking lot on our way in I was a happy camper highly recommend!

Mold

Well it was my first time out in a year to eat so I decided to try this place. They did follow social distancing which I appreciated. Once I sat down they took my order and didn't take long to get my meal. I took my first bite and glanced up at the ceiling to find their air vents pitch black with hanging mold. I was shocked, I quickly ate my meal and got out of there. I figured if the vents looked like that, what do the air ducts and furnace filters look like. With COVID regulations I was shocked to see this. it's been three days and I've had this horrible sore throat, this is the only place I've been in a week and wonder if it's because of

First time here and won't be the last!! I was not very hungry so I ordered a taco and refried beans. It was good...I have had better, I have had worse. Next time I will explore the menu more. The big surprise - what my hubby ordered! It was called Molcajete and I took a pic of it. It came out in this very hot stone and had a few different meats and veggies. A lot of flavor but not overly spicy. When he ate as much as he could, the sauce was still bubbling around the edges of the stone. He is a big eater and had enough for a second meal.

Great Food. Better than anything I have had in Mexican town in Detroit (with the exception of Evie's tamales).

Food doesn't miss. Different and better than the template Tex-Mex places, but still humble and…read morepriced appropriately.

What we got that was correct, was good. Staff was friendly etc. From that experience we'd go back…read moreanytime. However, they gave us an item completely made wrong. Ordered grilled steak, no peppers, no onion. What I got was shredded chicken, with onion. LOTS of onion. My little girl can't eat onion at all. I couldn't just take them off, she still couldn't eat them. I wrote them on their website, even filled out their survey request. I got an email saying they refunded me for the incorrect item. Great. Had I not noticed, she'd have eaten onion, that she CAN'T eat. Not because she doesn't like them, she can't. When you're selling food, you should ALWAYS make sure it's correct. Food allergies can be deadly. While I appreciate the refund for the item, that's kind of expected. I didn't order that. She couldn't eat it. It should be refunded, not not for my inconvenience as the email suggested, it was an inconvenience but we got the wrong item, she couldn't eat. You'd think with the importance of the possibly of possibly death, from a food item it was made clear she couldn't eat, they'd be a little more apologetic. If you want good Mexican food, great place to eat, however just carefully check your order. If you get something that was completely wrong, with an item that could kill you if you ate it, but they still included on that completely wrong item. No worries, if you're in the hospital or dead because you may not have caught it, rest assured, they'll refund the price of that item for you or your grieving family for the "inconvenience". Sad part is we loved what we got, that was correct. I'd have ordered again already a couple days later. After this? Nope. No concern in the email about the health risk from eating the onion. Here's your refund for the price of your quesadilla that you didn't order, and could have killed your little girl. I'll never go back. EVER. Anyone who asks, I'll definitely tell them about my experience as well.
