This is a classic Mexican restaurant with great food and great service. The restaurant is popular and lively, and the food selection is extensive. I tried the "fresh" margarita and it was really delicious and light-tasting. All of the food was fresh and flavorful. I was even pleasantly surprised by how good the guacamole in my salad was. The service here has gone way downhill. Food is good but not worth it with the horrible service. We came here on a weekday for dinner and got sat pretty quickly. We got sat at a corner booth. It took a while to be greeted but we finally did and it took a while to get our drinks. We finally ordered. We got our food pretty quickly but at this point our drinks were low and we wanted more chips and salsa. My food was also messed up. Our server had our table, a three top and an eight top. He was going back and forth with the other two tables but were ignoring us. My husband tried to flag him down a few times and he still ignored us. We waited and waited. We were sick of sucking on ice from our drinks. I finally went to the hostess stand and told the manager what happened. She asks us what all we needed and I tell her and she said she would get it for us. Did she? Nope. She told our server to come back to our table and he comes with an attitude asking what we needed. So we had to explain for the second time what we needed. He gets our items quickly. A few minutes later the same manager goes up to us and asks us if we need a box. Doesn't even ask if we are ok or if things are better. I tell her they are better but that my food was messed up and I couldn't even finish it since it was messed up and I couldn't even tell our server. Does she try to fix that? Nope. Atmosphere is a basic family, small town, place. Restaurant seems clean and colorful and our service was great. Most dishes looked fine but I (and my girlfriend) got the carne asada which was cooked down to shoe leather. She got a top shelf margarita, which looked normal. My "regular" one was a toxic neon green so clearly its not only the tequila thats different. I hate to drag a place but clearly it wasn't my cup of tea. If youre looking for a tex mex place to eat with your kids in Matthews, this might be a choice. read more

One of the best Mexican food restaurants in Charlotte. The cheese dip is amazing, and very cheap. The service speed is unreal. I've waited in longer drive-thru lines. We returned to El Valle for dinner with some friends, after not having returned for -- yikes!! -- 7 years. I must give El Valle kudos and a higher rating this time around, as we had an exceptional experience. I honestly couldn't remember our last visit, but I'm glad we returned. The menu is quite extensive. It took awhile to review it entirely. And I found a lot of different choices than a lot of Mexican restaurants offer, which was a nice surprise. All at fantastic prices, with an average of about $10 a person. I finally decided on Camarones El Loco, which is described as "shrimp in a special burning hot chipotle sauce, served with rice and beans." What intrigued me most was the "burning hot" sauce. While it didn't seem "burning hot" to me (sadly), it certainly was delicious and came with a lot of shrimp. It was a creamy sauce without much kick. Bonus: all the sauce doubled as a sauce for the rice. I didn't even use the tortillas that were brought with the meal; it was all good and filling on its own. One of our friends ordered one of the soups that she's ordered before, proclaiming its size enormous. She ordered the small bowl, which is much bigger than other restaurants' small size. And she was right. It was a huge-portioned, very chunky soup, stuffed with a lot of goodness. It's a meal in itself. We all left the restaurant fat and happy. My opinion of El Valle has been changed...for the better! They have fantastic food at excellent prices. (TIP: When you're done at El Valle, sneak around behind the building and discover Artisen, which serves Ecuadorian gelato for dessert. YUM!) read more

Came in tonight for 2 shrimp tacos, 1 steak no onions no cilantro w a side of lettuce. The other party ordered a combo of a taco, rice and 2 beef enchildas. So the combo plate comes out first, 20 minutes later 2 shrimp tacos w reminates of cilantro come out. 5 minutes later comes the.steak taco, cooked med rare when asked for well done. 15 minutes later we are checked on, we tell what the issue is and our usual server who is awesome apologized and said the owner would be over. He never showed up. So we went to the counter and he acted like he couldn't care less. They used to be good, but when it take forever to put shrimp on a taco shell and the owner lays blame on others, time to move on. So keep on moving, dont bother stopping here. I would have liked black beans instead of refried beans with this dish, but I guess I need to take that up with whoever Chuy is! Boyfriend had the Mexican Flag Burritos, which consists of one grilled chicken burrito, one bean burrito, and one steak burrito. Each burrito is topped with a different type of sauce to give it the colors of the Mexican Flag (hence its name) - salsa, salsa verde, and cheese sauce. This dish is $10.99. Each burrito was delicious! Price is decent, and this place has all of your classic Mexican dishes plus it's decked out in colorful Mexican decor. Tonight after we ordered with the waiter we didn't see him again until after my wife was 1/2 done eating. How was mine? I wouldn't know my sizless fajitas did come with tortillas or sides. So I sat there watching my fajitas die and after checking with the family across from us dozens of times the waiter eventually came by to ask "how is everything" standing over my empty beer glass that had been sitting on the edge of the table (as a sign for a refill) but no that was not offered.
