First time here and it's pretty big, plenty of seating. Nice staff. The service was good, they were attentive. I like their menu, they had a ton of options to choose from. Price seem reasonable but maybe too high on them. I would say the portion is a little small compared to what I'm used to. We share the acp and it was definitely not that good of a portion for the price. I would come back again just to try other stuff. read more

Cannot get enough of this place! Have to admit, the last two visits did prove that the chicken soup is not the same as it was the first time I had it there (not as much chicken, was bits and pieces instead of the usual shredded chicken, not as much flavor, a little bland and the only thing moving this rating from 5 to 4 stars), so it was kept me away, but I decided this visit I would try something different. Got the shrimp with mushrooms, rice and beans. So much flavor! Mushrooms were deliciously sautéed and, as the vegan's meat, I must say they were very juicy. Now, let's tawlk about that guacamole that I cannot get enough of. It's prepared in front of you, with as little (or as much) of anything you request. This time I poured the nacho chip sauce over it and enjoyed it even more than I always have. I love this little cozy, at home feel place! read more

The food was expensive but you are given a large portion so it evens out. They have someone walking around offering to make fresh guacamole at the table which was cool (didn't opt in because it did cost money). Our server was nice and attentive. It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon but it was still a good experience. read more

Wanted to some authentic Mexican food so I decided to order online from this place. The food was delicious and plentiful. A complete meal with a Rusa (drink) for under $25 is a win for me. The rice was a little dry but it was still eatable. They give you complimentary chips with salsa and a Mexican slaw(I don't know the name of it) it's so goooood. I'm definitely looking to try some other things on the menu soon read more

Shrimp quesadilla was awesome! Enough to take home. Great service & manager checked in too.

Great place to come when you are REALLY hungry. They offer huge potions with plenty of leftovers. Free chips and salsa with plenty of seating to choose from. They have live mariachi if you would like. Normal menu options. Anything from burritos, tacos, ceviche, seafood, etc. Located right off independence blvd. Convinient location. read more

I really liked this place, from the decor to the service, it was a good experience. The fresh guacamole made at your table was delicious, but the salsa was lacking. Very oniony and thin. The lunches were all around $10 and i got 2 enchiladas. They were very small, but good. My guest got the lunch burrito which looked great as well. The margaritas were top notch, Fresh and nothing fake sugar. Fresh lime and orange juice, grand marnier and tequila- delicious but pricey considering the glass was full of ice. Great location, great service and tasty food, but I have had better. read more

Their food is consistently top notch, in my opinion. Taste buds appreciate the preparation and care given choices given. Wait staff are always there for you but do not hover. Often go there for special occasions such as anniversary, etc. Prices are competitive. read more

Wonderful service and great chips. Little bit noisy but very pleasant. Kids liked the queso

my friends suggested Azteca for dinner. other than having good time with my friends, everything else was bad. I ordered the shrimp Fahita. shrimps were over cooked and very small. the vegetables which came with the plate were not any better. service was ok until it came time to pay the bill. when the waitress brought the bill and while signing on the credit card machine which she brought to the table , I noticed that she quickly pushed on the 20% for the tips Without asking me!!!!!!!! After she left the table, one of my friends shared that she did the same thing!!!!! Be careful when you are paying. This is so unethical. I will not go back to that restaurant!!!!!! read more

Had a fabulous Sunday funday at Azteca in Matthews with my bestie! What we got: Sangria Mexican beer Chips & Salsa Deluxe Taco Salad (grilled chicken & shredded beef) The inside is so fun and they had a mariachi player. Good music, good food and even better vibes. Carborhydrate and salt heaven. Bit don't count on flavor. Must be the bar that keeps them in business.

I was so excited to try Azteca because I love Mexican food and saw the many good reviews. Unfortunately, I won't be going back. I started with a frozen margarita, which had little flavor and was not blended hardly at all. So many large chunks of ice that even sipping was difficult. Also, the menu had no descriptions of what came on or with each item, which made ordering difficult. Despite asking for details on what I ended up ordering , my food came out completely different than expected...and not in a good way. This was way too expensive to not know what you were ordering. My meal, of which I had 2 bites, was over $30. read more

I always love eating here! The employees are so friendly and the service is great! My server was Eric and I will definitely ask for him again! My mom had a shoulder injury and he was so kind, asking how she was doing. I always get the Expresso Vegetarian Burrito and it's delicious. Highly recommend coming here! read more

I came on my moms birthday I tipped 10 dollars I don't have much but I gave what I have and the server started to explain really rudely how I had to tip 21 dollars he basically started to talk to us like we were stupid my mom was confused and we just looked at him he took the money with an attitude and left the table in such a rude manner. We always tip, I work in a restaurant and don't get tipped much but I don't do it for that reason only. If you don't want work with people then find another job. The manager talked to us very nice manager but the older guy that was helping us out was not nice at all. Really bad first experience. read more

I was hankering for some good Mexican food and wanted to try someplace different than our usual. It was $20ish for a basic ACP. The atmosphere was nice but I've definitely had better AND cheaper ACP's elsewhere. My boyfriend also got a steak ACP which, again, usually isn't a super expensive dish and our bill total before tip was probably around $45-$55. That being said our server was attentive and very nice. Might give it another try sometime but for now I think I'll stick with my go to place read more

My friends and I love Azteca as they have great lunch specials during the week. The food we ordered was delicious, fresh, and hot. The chips, salsa, and pico de gallo was so delicious! They are not stingy with the chips and salsa like some other places. The service was very nice and our table was well taken care of. The ambiance is a true Mexican restaurant with lovely decor. read more

For Cinco de Mayo we wanted to sit on a patio and enjoy mexican food and good weather. We got to Aztecs around 5:15. We checked in at the front and they called when the table was ready around 20 minutes later. I was impressed because there were tons of people waiting and we were able to get a patio seat! Chips and salsa were brought out right away. We ordered guacamole that was made in front of our table and queso as well. Both were delicious. For our entrees we got a variety of things, enchiladas, fajita quesadilla, chimichanga, arroz con pollo, and rice and beans. The portions are huge! We enjoyed our experience and the people that ordered margaritas got a free tshirt! read more

Solid four stars. Quick and tasty Mexican food, and they have fun live music! Prices are affordable and fair

Worst Mexican food I've ever had. I know it's not authentic first of all but for the prices they charge it could be way better. The salsa is horrible. Tastes like a store bought taco mix packet. Consistency is way too watery as well. Food is horrible with no flavor at all!! Prices are crazy for what you're being served. Very low quality ingredients. Whoever thinks this place is good, definitely has no taste buds lol the foods not even decent. They just serve up whatever cause they know the people who come here will pay and are used to bland food... I'll leave it at that. Avoid , don't waste your time and money. read more

Where to start... Ok, watery salsa and not much flavor. Then i ordered Carnitas tacos, I love good carnitas. These were terrible. They came in soft shells that were slimy and soggy, almost gelatinous. Felt like a wet dish rag in my hand. I ended up taking the 'carnitas' out of them and eating that with a fork. It was diced up really small and not very good either. That was $16! My wife had ranchero combo which consisted of the toughest leather thin piece of meat and 4 shrimp. That was $26 - for lunch. I think the cow must have walked all the way from Mexico to NC it was so tough. So $50 for Mexican lunch for 2 people and it was hard to even eat it, it was so bad. Guess what? Not going back. read more

Busy place. I've been there a couple times. It's not a best place but it's okay for dinner occasionally

If I could give 0 stars I would. The salsa was awful - super watery and not one tomato to be had....ordered a chicken quesadilla....who can mess up a chicken quesadilla??? I was stuck on the disgustingly soggy tortilla from the pico I asked not to be put on my quesadilla... I watched a bug crawl up the window from the inside I was so unimpressed - I returned the food and left. On the way out, stopped in the restroom and there was a line of us waiting to use it and a male staff member walked right in...while we were in there and went into the stalls to replenish toilet paper - a lady in line looked at me and said "that's pretty uncommon, isn't it?" I'm never going back - I felt bad I put my husband through it read more

This may have been the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my entire life. Customer service was everything! Staff was great! Food : Salsa was watery and lacked spices and flavor The chips were stale I ordered the enchiladas and they were dry and lacked flavor. Tbh the food taste like a 99 cent tv dinner it was not good at all I was so disappointed. I would not recommend eating here maybe the bar and the service but not the food at all. Oh the queso was not good either. Very rubbery which was shocking. read more

Being born and raised in California you grow up near a lot of great and authentic Mexican restaurants and ever since I moved to NC azteca has been the best Mexican food I've had hands down. I'm not sure what has gotten into Mexican joints heads charging what they do for food now. But 18.95 for half an over cooked chicken breast, rice, and queso is absurd. Good chips and salsa, but crazy markup on food IMO. Service was good, but dang, figure out the food prices. read more

Good fresh food! Big portions! Friendly attentive staff! Many menu options. Highly recommend.

We decided last minute to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at one of the best Mexican Restaurants in town! Do yourself a favor and come here whenever you're craving authentic Mexican food. They have a big menu so you may have a hard time choosing, but you won't be disappointed. There are so many good choices, you can't go wrong! The service was the best. The margarita I had was PERFECT. I felt like I was in Cancun again, I had the Pollo Poblano and it came with tortillas, rices, beans and salad. So much food!!! 100% I will be coming back again. Thank you Luz Maria! The interior was delightful and bright with history and the dresses the staff wore were gorgeous. read more

Was able to sneak out for a date night and love that we live so close to this. As a TX native, finding good Mexican is tough but we have found our go-to. The freshly made guacamole is the best! Azteca has been my favorite Mexican food restaurant for many years.....but no more. I was there for lunch this past week and after drinking a couple of sips from my water glass noticed THREE dead ants in my glass. I immediately notified my waitress who picked up my glass, stared into it and made a face as she quickly removed it. A few minutes later she brought another glass of water, set it down and asked if she could get me to go containers for my uneaten lunch (never apologized or said a word about the ants). Told her I only wanted the bill and had no desire to eat any more of my food. I was charged full price, paid for everything and as I left, the hostess at the front desk asked how my meal was. I told her what happened, she looked at me blankly and said "Have a nice one" !!!!! What is wrong with people? I'll never go back and encourage others to find a place that gives a crap about their customers and doesn't serve little black insects in their water. read more
