We're still on the hunt for good Mexican food in Charlotte that isn't like tex-mex. We tried Los Aztecas most recently and it was good! They made a special dish for me, it's basically Texas ACP with shrimp, chicken and beef and veggies over rice with queso. The guacamole wasn't very good at all. It was more like a creamy dip and it didn't taste very fresh. We liked the queso and my companions enjoyed their margaritas. They called my dish "texas rice" so order that if you go! read more

Pretty much the run-of-the-mill variety of Mexican, heavy carbohydrate, salty foods. Good bar with many margarita flavors. I do not consider this franchise anywhere authentic or good. You load up on gratis chips and salsa, buy drinks and then go into a menu that needs no explanation. Out it come, rice and beans with your main. I cannot explain how or why there is enough business to sustain their expansion to two locations on Hwy 521. To me it is clear that a lot of people suffer a sodium shortage so they come to El Azteca to get more salt or many more people have not sense of taste. There are better options. read more

SO Disappointing! I stopped in for a quick lunch on an overcast/rainy Feb Thursday. I was greeted and seated by nice lady who handed my a couple of menus. The smaller was the lunch menu. I wanted the tacos, as you can see from the pic I took, they are priced at $3.50 each. I ordered Carne Asada, Al Pastor & Pollo. When I asked about topings she said onions and cilantro only. I said you don't have lettuce, she said no. I said you don't have cheese, she said no. I said well, I'm going to go somewhere else. Then she said, hold on. She came back and said, we do have lettuce and cheese but we will need to charge you extra for that. They were ALL just Meh. Don't waste your time here, they are way too many better options. The $3.50 tacos ended up costing me $5.67 each! That's $2.17 MORE than what's advertised. The chips were cold. The salsa was just meh. I won't be returning! read more

Well ..... I understand the mixed reviews. The food was not bad,not great. The service was not bad, not great. The dinks were....well you get the point by now. I will say the prices are steep for what it is. This is pretty much a fast casual (at best) Mexican place. The food is mid, the drinks are mid and the service is mid. Very clean place. We went a little late for lunch, so there were just a few customers. Complimentary chips and salsa was tasty. They also have couple options for condiments/hot sauce. My shrimp fajita was tasty and tender. But my husband's chicken fajita was a little chew and barely had any vegetables (onions and bell pepper). First time here. Initial impressions, great place for a mid-week lunch during work hours. Nice casual ambiance. Once seated, we ordered from the menu, which was well laid out and organized. From here, it went a bit downhill. Complimentary chips and salsa were brought to our table. Chips were stale. Margaritas were 13.99 -- way overpriced and seriously lacking any tequila (felt like I was drinking a fountain soda). Tamales, rice and beans were good, I enjoyed them. Tasty food, large portions, pleasant wait staff. I haven't about gluten, so usually get the nachos supreme, as none of their sauces are gf. Everything my family have ordered is very good. This is a nice Mexican restaurant my dining mate and our friends had dinner at. Friendly attentive service, colorful comfortable surroundings and a large menu of choices; something for everyone. Prices reasonable, food plated nicely, hot food came out hot. We ordered chicken chimichangas, taco salad with chicken, and a shrimp taco. My dining mate also ordered a margarita. Everything was tasty. I only wished my taco salad was larger with more stuff in it. It's my go to Mexican salad and I had better elsewhere. However overall, the food on average was very tasty. I was super pleased with my first visit here. Later in the evening on a Friday night. Super attentive staff - I had 2-3 different people wanting to take care of me. About a week ago I tried Los Aztecas and I'm sad it isn't close enough to me! When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and instructed to sit wherever I wanted. The restaurant is intimate with booth, bar, and table seating. Once I got comfortable my drink order was taken and provided a menu. I was quickly provided my drink with chips and salsa. The chips were warm and tasty as well as the salsa. I wish I took some home. For my meal, I ordered 3 tacos (2 chicken and 1 carnitas) with a side of rice. The tacos came with onions and cilantro. The meat was juicy and flavorful, I will definitely get again. The rice was perfect! Sometimes it can be salty but this had the right amount of salt! I wish I had enough room for churros but I was too full. The next time I'm on that side of town, I'll be back! read more

We LOVE the food... However, we have had multiple issues with the catering and the management is unwilling to make it right and just says... sorry. Nothing we can do. We ordered an entire platter of the fried rice and chicken, got home to serve the party and there was NO chicken, when we called they said, oh, it's right here... you can come and get it. - 20 min one way with company, we had to go back out. The other time they only gave us a small pan when we ordered the large pan!!! They wouldn't make it right. I believe his name was Tom AND the general manager brushed me off saying it wasn't their fault that I need to talk to catering. My wife really loves this place. We drive 25 minutes just to eat here and pass by 5 other Mexican restaurants, so I grew to love it! The food is always great, fresh and never take long. The service is always great even when their busy for Taco Tuesday's! This is one of my husband's favorite restaurants. I love it too, but he wants to go here at least once a week (and we have)! The restaurant staff are very friendly. They always greet us with a smile and a kind "hola" or "hello." We are regulars, and often a few of the wait staff will stop by to greet us even if we are not their table. They serve fresh warmed chips with salsa when you sit down. The salsa is one of my favorites of any of the Mexican restaurants we have tried. My husband's favorite dish is the California burrito. It's super big, and I don't know how he eats all of it but he does. He orders it every time. I have tried several different entrees. A favorite of mine is the Quesadilla Especiales. The chicken in this is brilliantly prepared. It tastes as though it has been seasoned and sautéed or skillet made, and it's white meat. It's not the shredded chicken like in most other quesadillas. I ask for grilled fresh jalapeños to be added for a nominal fee. I prefer mine a little spicy. They serve two quesadillas for this entrée, and I almost always take one home for lunch the next day. It's still super delicious warmed up. The decor is pretty typical Mexican restaurant style and they play authentic background music. They have some tv's on the walls as well. It's clean and it's a smaller restaurant so it does have a cozy feel. There are tables outside too, but we always sit inside. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food and the atmosphere. Typically weekends and some evenings are busier, but we have never had to wait for a seat. We have taken our out of town overnight guests here for dinner, and they are always very pleased. We never have felt hurried or rushed through dinner. The wait staff are gracious and friendly always. Good food, and treated kindly. Our kind of place! read more

Chili verde was very good not much meat given and only three tortillas. Not the original place this use to be but overall still good.

They put quest on my chimichanga. Yuck. It made my chimi soggy.The chips and salsa was good.

Carnitas and margaritas. Not many people have reviewed margaritas in the area and these here are the best I found- they do not have orange juice and have a wonderful lime flavor. Carnitas have wonderful flavor and the plate is giant and is enough to feed two people. The salsa is not too spicy but has enough spice. The queso is so yummy! Great place to go for Mexican! The people, food and service are terrific. Family ran business and they treat you well. Fast and reasonably priced. Ask for their homemade sauces, and they will gladly bring them to you! The green avocado, hot sauce is my personal favorite, but the other two are delicious. Never disappoints, I went with my wife and toddlers and they loved it! My babies where dancing and eating the whole time and did not want to leave.
