Food is the best Mexican in the area. The service is excellent also.... My new favorite Mexican restaurant in the Fort Mill area.

Stopped by on a Sunday around 5:30pm. It wasn't busy at first, but by about 6:15 it started filling up pretty quickly. They had reggaeton playing, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The vibe was casual and laid-back. We were brought warm chips and salsa right away, which was nice. Our waitress took our order, but she was pretty absent after that. It was hard to get more napkins and refills on our beer and soda. The fajitas for two were really good -- 5/5. The cilantro rice, though, was a 1/5. It was very dry and way too salty, which was disappointing. The elote (corn on the cob), which I was really excited about, was a 5/5. So good. One thing that also disappointed me was the guacamole. The menu says it's prepared tableside, which usually explains the higher price. However, that wasn't the case for us. It wasn't made at the table, so that was a little frustrating since it seemed like we were paying extra for that experience. Overall, the food was mostly great, but the customer service was lacking. It was frustrating because we could see people waiting, and we were ready to pay and leave to free up the table. It was just hard to get her attention for to-go boxes and the check, and it took a while before she came back. Maybe we'll try again at a slower time. read more

Didn't even know this spot was back here until a friend suggested we meet for after work drinks and I happened to see this place while running errands nearby. Glad we came bc it was such a fun atmosphere and the margaritas were on point! We needed up just ordering appetizers and we fell in love with the gringo dip, such much so we ordered it twice. Looking forward to returning with my family. read more

Both dishes ordered, carnitas and a chicken with broccoli were cooked great and fast! The beer was cold and large. My favorite was their guacamole! Yum!!! We enjoyed sitting outside. The food is your typical southeastern Mexican, plus there are a lot of different dishes on their menu too. We will be back! read more

Had the opportunity to try Mr Rayos and not bad but not great either. The Good: Service was fantastic. The menu is extensive. I want to say it is 5 pages long so many options available. The chips and salsa were good. Opportunities for improvement: Some of the food was bland. My family & I LOVE Mr. Rayo! Hubby & I come here at least once a week since they opened, unless we are out of town. The carne asada is tender & full of flavor! Absolutely amazing!!! We randomly chose this restaurant on a Sunday early afternoon. It was perfect. The staff was very friendly, and our waiter was so nice. He recommended his favorite dishes and what's popular. I was so pleased with our food. The flavor was incredible and everything was so fresh. The restaurant is small but very nice inside. Prices were also very reasonable for the quality! Food came out super quick. They even offer different levels of spicy salsa. Such a great experience. They also offer outside seating. Just open in the location that was formerly Roasting Oven for rotisserie chicken, right next to the Dunkins on Gold Hill Rd. Ugalde is the same family that owns and operates Casa Tequilla in Rock Hill. I went for lunch this morning around 11am and it was just starting to get busy. I had their Sopa De Pollo which was good though a little light on the chicken. I also had throw tacos, one chicken and one beef on flour tortilla. They offer free chips and salsa with mild and hot salsa options Sadly the tortilla chips were cold.. The Staff is great, I met Jessie and Cesar, two of the brothers who are in the family business. Their Father is nicknamed Rayo, Spanish for lightening, because he was such a quick worker. They have an excellent and extensive menu lots of choices & something for everyone. They also have a very nice outside patio. As of 10/18, they are waiting for their liquor license but in the mean time they are offer coupons for complimentary small margaritas for your future visit. read more

The food and service are great. But the prices are ridiculous. $24 for lunch for an enchilada plate is over the top. Base price $17 they charged me $2 for a small portion of sour cream which is too much. Add taxes, tip and their extra credit card fee and it ends up at $24. No drink either. My friends and I had a very overdue night out at Mr Rayo last night. Our server was amazing, answering so many of our questions (he probably thought we had never been to a Mexican restaurant before). 2 of us ordered super chimichanga (steak) and it was massive, we probably should have shared one. It was delish!! One had carnitas and he raved about his dish. Our other friend couldn't make up her mind so ordered the pick 3 with cheese quesadilla, chicken chimichanga and beef burrito, sampling everything and said she would order it all again. We visited Mr Rayo last night after spotting the sign on Gold Hill a few days ago. After our dinner, we agreed that we finally have an excellent Mexican restaurant in the area with truly super staff who were friendly and responsive to our needs. Everything from the chips/salsa to the (house) Margaritas and entrees were delicious! We had the Chile Verde which is pork slow-cooked in green chilis and spices. We also really liked their Mole served over grilled chicken. I loved my Tortilla Soup which is a meal in itself. I also tried a Chile Poblano with its tasty-not-spicy but very good red sauce. Sadly, there was no room for dessert. I look forward to trying the Tres Leches next time which will hopefully be soon. Note: we were there around 5:30 and were seated immediately. This is one restaurant that I can revisit tomorrow because the food, service, and atmosphere were Exceptional! The atmosphere is so vibrant and inviting with the amazing paintings on the walls! This was my 1st time visiting tonight with friends and let me just say this, Mr. Rayo Mexican Grill did not disappoint at all! I had the mixed fajitas with chicken and steak!! The chicken, steak, and veggies were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Hands down, the best I have ever had!! My friend had the veggie taco salad because she is a vegetarian. She said that it was scrumptious! We love this new spot for us. Service was amazing, drinks and chips were brought very quickly. My wife ordered the Chile rellenos and I ordered the Chile verde. Both were absolutely delicious. Very friendly staff. When I went they charged a fee for credit cards, so pay cash. This should be the norm everywhere so we use cash again and the banks won't get some of the restaurants hard earned money. Support small businesses. read more
