I was in the area because of work and the robust smell coming for El Valle overtook me and I was forced to stop in lol. I ordered the rotisserie chicken (white meat) with extra onions - get the extra onions! I'm not an onions-person by any means but it will add to already AWESOME flavor and JUICINESS of their well-seasoned chicken. As side orders, I tried their arroz y grandules (yellow rice and pigeon peas) - AMAZINGLY FRESH; Habichuelas (red beans) - AMAZINGLY SEASONED; and Maduros (sweet plantains) - PROCEED WITH CAUTION! Lol Unfortunately, while the chicken, arroz and habichuelas were VERY GOOD, the sweet plantains were over-ripen and tasted as if they were on the brink of spoiling. NOTHING WORSE THAN SPOILED PLANTAINS - especially when you're craving some! Hence 3 instead of 5 stars. My boyfriend and I ordered food on Grubhub, which took an hour to come. At 11:56 I received a text message from the delivery guy stating that the food was here and at 11:57 I sent a text message stating that my boyfriend would be coming down to get the food. I would never ever order from here again. I order my food at 8:47pm, my food did not arrive until 11:00pm. The service is terrible. I called after an hour and the woman was rude. I called again after two hours to explain the urgency of needing to eat with my pills as I have just had intensive surgery.. the woman sucks her teeth and hung up. The delivery man arrived at 11:00pm with the only attitude. I had to go downstairs to retrieve the food even though I explained in great detail that I had just had surgery and couldn't walk a great distance. Delicious chicken! Delicious rice! Great alternative to cooking if you're from the area. I have grown up around this restaurant and can vouch for the quality and amazing flavors. I love the rotisserie chicken - well seasoned and cooked to maintain tenderness. I also really enjoy their pork chops. I always call for delivery and live about half a mile away, takes them on average 20 minutes. When I go in, I go up to the counter and place my order. Probably a veteran move since so many people complain on getting served. Not sure what the problem is with a lot of the reviews. I think expectations are too high, it's a small establishment meant mostly for take out. Not built for a dine in experience. I was in the area and grabbed some quick lunch to go. I had the $6 lunch special of rice and beans and chicken. It was a nice amount of food for $6. I saw a lot of people enjoying their meals at the tables. I remember having a few questions but the women behind the counter didn't speak English that well. This restaurant has horrible customer service. My mom ordered from this place via Uber Eats. The place had everything else but for one of our entrees , they ran out of Broccoli and we were not informed. Our food was delivered with no broccoli and no communication of that. We called the UberEats person and he informed us that what he delivered was what the restaurant handed to him. Then we called the restaurant and told them we were missing broccoli in our entree. This was my first time ordering from El Valle on Melrose, while the food got to me warm and on time my appetite was completely ruined with the piece of plastic bag in the salad. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! IS A RIP OFF!! (Check other sites for their reviews on delivery, you will see)! I'm posting here because I ordered from this place on another site (I'll refrain from naming the site out of respect to the site and Yelp). Now, I have ordered from this place for well over a year, since moving into my new apartment. Their food is not great, but it's not horrible and obviously good enough for me to keep ordering there. Last week, was the last time I will ever order from this place and my experience made me want to warn other customers to be careful of them! Never once have a had a problem with the delivery man coming to my door and dropping off food, until last week. After a back and forth with the delivery guy yelling at me to come down and get my food, and then having his teenage son call me and get very nasty and aggressive about me coming down (note: I think the teenage son was with his father because the father can't speak English fluently). They had every lie from there was no parking, to they can't get out the car because no one is at my door (note: I live in a doorman building, with parking directly in front of the building for deliveries. I've never had a problem in all the time I lived here getting deliveries - EVEN FROM THEM). I had just gotten back in town from a long day of traveling and I was in my PJs so really just wanted them to bring up the food - like normal - I mean if I was going to put clothes, I would go get food. THEY HUNG UP ON ME! I didn't know if they were coming up or what?! So after 10 mins... I called the food site I ordered from to tell them the issue, they said the delivery man went back to the restaurant and that I would have to reorder my food and that the restaurant -GET THIS- WAS NOT REFUNDING ME MY MONEY! I eventually got the refund from the food site itself, but I was outraged. I had some teenage kid cursing me out on the phone, non one communicated to me what was happening and I had to follow up and now THEY WONT GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK FOR FOOD I NEVER GOT!!!????!!! The rep from the food site was very apologetic and let me know that he was able to contact the driver and the driver's son was very rude to him, as well. I called the restaurant directly to see if I could talk to a manager, IF YOU CALL THIS PLACE ASKING TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER OR TRYING TO ADDRESS AN ISSUE - EVERYONE STOPS SPEAKING ENGLISH AND THEY START PUTTING YOU ON HOLD and saying things like "The Manager He No Here" (I know that last sentence sounds like I'm being racist, but LEGIT the lady said that to me)! I called the next day to speak to the manager or owner, they kept saying he wasn't there or they don't know who the owner is or who the manager is. So, I guess its real hard for them on payday when they go to get paid and there is no manager or owner to pay them. God bless them for working for free, no wonder their attitudes stink. BE CAREFUL! When the getting is good this place is good, BUT WHEN THEY MESS UP OR THEY FORGET STUFF THEY WILL STILL CHARGE YOU AND NEVER GIVE YOUR FOOD OR MONEY BACK! Good food had to wait a long time for delivery when the food got to us it was cold so we couldn't really in joy it but overall it was ok

Positives: The Chicharron de Pollo and Chicken with Rice lunch special are the most appealing items on the menu about this place. On your average weekday, it gets very busy but usually enough space to settle down and eat. On the Weekends, they'll serve Pastelon - a lasagna looking food composed of sweet plantains, cheese, and ground meat that is actually sweet and delicious. Drawbacks: The customer service is not always great. Sometimes they'll get your order mixed up or misunderstand because waiters sometimes decide to the order in their heads instead of writing it on a note. When I come to get take out, the waitresses/servers have me wait an excess amount of time for a simple order and give me a nasty attitude when I ask them for an update on the order. Lastly, the menu is overpriced. When you think of Spanish restaurants in the Bronx, you typically think inexpensive. In El Valle (at least in this location), they sell steak for a minimum of $20 and do not always adjust it to the cooking you want (medium well, rare, etc.) Most Spanish restaurants will give you a good steak that is properly cooked at a $15 minimum which makes El Valle disappointing in that respect. Overall: A restaurant that serves solid food but needs to make some price adjustments to the menu and improve customer service to become a hot spot for dining. 3/5 (January 2017) read more

This is a typical Spanish diner like you see all over the Bronx. They have a pretty decent $5.99 lunch special-- You get tons of rice and beans, with a couple of pieces of rotisserie chicken (your choice of light or dark meat) and a soda. I'm a big eater, but it's usually enough food for me to have lunch for 2 days. When Anthony Bordain came to the Bronx he should have taken the 2 or 5 train one more stop to 3rd Ave and 149th street, instead he went to that awful fake soul food place that's really a bar. This is what normal people eat; you pay $5.99 for chicken with a healthy portion of rice and beans. If you order the mini chicken comb get leg and thigh it's usually really moist.
