This place is good for cheap dining. Service is okay. I ordered queso fundido thinking it was the cheese dip I had ordered once before but I had gotten it confused. When it was brought out and had pork in it, I explained my mistake to the waiter. He seemed like he was annoyed with me. I asked for the other dip without pork. When he went to the kitchen, I could see the cooks all laughing about it and when he brought the "new" dip out, I was fairly certain they had just scooped the pork out and gave me the same dip. I couldn't eat it. I felt like they didn't value "the customer is always right," rule and that would deter me from eating there again. read more

Definitely better than some other options in the area. Came here on a Friday night for dinner. Seated right away, though the place wasn't empty by any means. Very little wait for our food and our server was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is pretty festive and nicely decorated and there's pretty ample parking. I ordered one of the vegetarian combos and the quesadilla was crispy and the rest was tasty and just the right portion. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. My only nitpick is that the salsa that comes with the chips leaves something to be desired. Will be coming back next time we want some local Mexican food. read more

I ordered the burrito California and wifey ordered the chicken fajita burritos. Both were excellent. The salsa has a fresh taste due to the cilantro, yummy! Wifey ordered a side of enchilada sauce with her burritos and it has a fantastic taste, with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. Definitely worth a try, we will be back. The only thing I would change is that I would ask that they skip the cheese sauce on the burrito California. It tastes good but i think it masks the taste of the other ingredients. read more

Had hopes for this place, but was quickly dashed when my drink order was mixed up, then my food order got botched too.My cross eyed, blue eyed boy toy was with me, along with his parents. I asked for the jarrito mandarin flavor soda and I received the tamarind. The waiter realized his mix up and went to get me a mandarin but came back to let me know they only have the tamarind flavor, not much for variety. Then my potato flautas and my a la carte bean tostada order came out as a chicken and beef flauta dish. My entire table had eaten and finished their food over 10 minutes before my real meal came out. There was no mention of discounting the food due to the food mix up and on top of it all our bill showed a side of bean we had never ordered. It was a series of gaffes at this restaurant. Beware your food check...look it over carefully. We go to El Toro in Brighton often because we love their food. We love their queso. But something has happened to me 3 times which leads me to believe that they don't care to fix it. I ordered the #1 on the $10.99 menu but when we got the check they charged us $11.98. This may not seem to be a lot of money but I have to wonder how many people they have ripped off. The first time I brought it to the attention of the cashier he said he did not know how to fix it. I told him that I was not going to pay for a food check that was more than what it was supposed to be. Guess what. He went to get help and the check was fixed. Now this has happened to me three times and it does not appear that they want to fix this overcharge. There is no telling how many people have been ripped off by not reviewing their check. This is not right. We will go back to eat there but I will definitely review my bill. Maybe they will decide that it is worth fixing. It appears that they want to continue to overcharge and not fix it. read more

Food wasn't great. Fried ice cream was not fried ice cream, as I've had in past. Vanilla ice in fried bowl. Not worth $5. Tamales were gross. Little filling, thick outer edge. Service didn't seem to care I was dissatisfied with food. read more

Food is always good. Fresh and authentic. I'm surprised this place isn't busier considering it's 10x better than Border Cantina. I think this is the best Mexican food outside if Mexican village in Detroit. This is more like real Mexican, and less like most American-Ized mexi restaurants. Why do I like? They have good food but awful service. The staff mainly speaks Spanish and barely any English. When ordering my food my water barley understood me, and when he brought it out he kept yelling my order in Spanish. I had no idea what he was saying(I don't speak spanish) so I told him I didn't order that and he just kept yelling it back to me. Eventually he gave it to me and left. The order was correct so at least that was good. They also put my friends order on the same receipt, which was fine because he grouped them separately so I thought it'd be easy to split it. Unfortunately the guy who runs the checkout had no clue at all how we wanted it split, and all he did was mumble, so there was no getting through to him. Eventually I agreed and ended up paying a random amount that was higher than what it should have been. So if you want to handle stupid Mexicans who can't speak properly, then they do have good cheap food. read more

Food is great and service to match. It is more towards traditional style Mexican (which I love) we are always greeted with a smile and the restaurant is very clean. Would recommend! My only issue is that if you pay with credit, they charge extra. Worth grabbing cash before you go! read more

Ordered carryout lunch. Orders were really messed up. We called to see what happened and they had no idea. They really did not seem to care about correcting our carryout order. The food that we did get tasted pretty good, although small portions. In the future I will go to Border Cantina. OMG !! I died & went to the BEST Mexican restaurant that has the BEST Margarita w/Gran Marnier in it. You can actually taste the alcohol in this drink. Fantastic. They just received their liquor license the end of December so we waited until this time. What's a Mexican dinner w/out a Margarita? Our server Miguel, was attentive & extremely personable which is a blessing. Usually, we find that those who work at either Mexican or Chinese restaurants are typically stand-offish. Not Miguel. He made our visit & dinner even more enjoyable. We started with the usual complimentary salsa & chips. Salsa was excellent. We then ordered some guacamole which was excellent. Tasty & fresh like it should be. For our main course, Charlie & I both ordered the crab burritos with rice, beans & a creamy, subtle cheese sauce over the burritos. I kidded Miquel that I should have asked if it was real crab or the imitation kind. He told me to slice a piece to find out.Well, it was real & it was ALL crab. Nothing was used to fill it such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. Many years ago, I had a great dinner at the Mexican Fiesta which was on Ford Rd., just West of Telegraph. It was scrambled eggs & cactus. Mentioned this to Miguel & he promised me that he will get the cactus but needed to know when we would be back. We plan on going back on the 25th of January to listen to the Mariachi band & try their tacos, fajitas & other foods they serve + the cactus that was promised. We went there Saturday night and I was really impressed with the food, it was delicious and neatly presented on the plates. The only downside was the floor in the restaurant, it looked filthy especially under the tables where you have to put your feet. There was a man sweeping with a broom, but it needs a good mopping and sanitizing. Would like to go back there again, hope they clean it up. I stopped in for lunch last week. Its definitely tucked away behind a strip mall....but well worth it. Free chips and salsa were good (need a little more salt), service was fast and friendly. The carnitas.....?!?! SOOO happy to find such good authentic ethnic food in the chain restaurant and sports bar hell of Brighton. If I were going to rate this restaurant on food alone, I would give it 4 stars. However, the service brings their score down considerably. They have made mistakes on our orders, and then acted annoyed when we pointed it out. We usually have to flag someone down to refill our drinks, and we get the evil eye (or are conveniently ignored) when we ask for more chips and salsa. We haven't had to pay more for chips, like the other reviewer, but you can tell they really don't like it when you ask for more. My wife got tacos and enjoyed them very much. Glad it appears to be back to 4 stars on all levels. I recommend Mi Zarape if you like more authentic Mexican food. Ate here the other night with my family and it was great! They start you with complimentary chips and salsa, the salsa being very fresh and flavorful. My parents ordered the shrimp and chicken fajitas and they could not stop talking about how good they were! I ordered the combination plate with the enchilada and burrito. My choice of meat was the shredded beef and it was the best I've ever had. It was very juicy, tender, and flavorful. Their red sauce is a little bit sweeter than other Mexican restaurants, but delicious none the less. The service was great, very polite and quick to refill drinks. It was a very pleasant experience! Loved the salsa, rice, even liked the fake-smoked beans but that red sauce over every burrito, enchilada, chile relleno was just too much. maybe they were trying to replicate a mole but the flavor that overpowers everything else is cinnamon. It detracted from all the natural flavors of the fillings. Hubby said the meat in his taco was so "wet" it soaked into the soft tortilla and made it mushy and fall apart. service was good but that sauce spoiled the experience of the rest of the meal. will not return. read more

This is hands-down the worst dining experience I've had in years. Walk in told the hostess I'm going to sit at the bar, there I continue to wait for a solid 10 minutes before anybody came up to me. The bar and one other client the restaurant was 80% empty it was 630 Thursday night. I sat there and then a short older man came up to me dropped off chips and salsa. I asked for a top shelf margarita no salt no ice he mumbled some kind of language I assume was Spanish. He turned took a margarita glass and salt filled the rim then filled it with ice reached under the bar grabbed a half a gallon jug dumped it in turn around and served. At this point 15 minutes into this process I decided to just let it go. Then ordered And 15 minutes later my cold food showed up. Had a few bites drink a few sips asked for the bill which was the price of a premium drink put down $22 and walked out the door. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. read more

I always get the Guadalupe Burrito everytime I go there. It is truly a beautiful thing. It has so much flavor and is balanced very well. I wish I knew where they get their Queso sauce. I must say, I'm impressed with that dish. Someone who understands how to cook put some creative thought into it. read more
