This visit, we ordered 2 grilled chicken tacos, one grilled chicken quesadilla, side of beans and esquite, chicken burrito verde, two chicken flautas, side of beans, large guacamole, taquitos Mexicanos and one chicken tostada. $75.46 The house salsa is good, it's better mixed with the house mild salsa. The guacamole doesn't look fresh at all. Looks like it was out of a tube or container. It looks like they added some tomatoes to it to doctor it up some, it doesn't taste fresh either. It's not so good. The taquitos and the flautas look exactly the same, both are good. Packed with shredded chicken. The chicken tacos aren't bad, chicken is a bit dry. The chicken tostada wasn't bad. First, I wanna say thank you for packing it so well. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and they even taped the top to it. It was very good as always but they didn't give me any saltines My husband ordered a steak & shrimp fajita without tomato and it came with minimal meat and vegetables, but again everything was packed really good. The food is always good. We ordered the cheese cake and banana dessert this time and it was delicious. The reason 4 's was because I paid $66 for no saltines and not much of a fajita. My husband and I went in for Mexican food. Margarita was delish, salsa was delish and my flauta was great. I wasn't very hungry salad. The only dressing they had was ranch so I was going to use salsa. Omg the salad consisted of 90 % onions, 5% tomato and 5 % lettuce. It's a decent Mexican restaurant. We stopped in after trick or treating on Halloween. Kinda a taqueria or burrito joint. I thought the chicken was pretty tasty. Nothing special in my opinion. We have eaten at every Mexican Restaurant around Howell. Tonight was our first time at El Patron. We had great food, service, and the ambiance was great as well! I ordered the Burrito Mexicano. It was large, full and flavorful! My wife ordered Enchiladas Suizas and said the meal was far better than all the other restaurants around. We will, be returning! read more

We LOVE El Patron! Our favorite is the Polo Norteno. It's chicken breast with caramelized onions, pineapple, and white cheese sauce. The Fajita Quesadilla is another favorite. Never had a bad meal there. Chips and salsa are always fresh & delicious. The rice and beans are very good. We eat there about twice a month for the last several years. We went there for lunch and some drinks. Their drinks are more expensive than their food. I ordered fajitas and was presented a plate of toppings with a dead ant sitting directly on top of my sour cream. When I pointed it out the server said "oh I'll get you a different one". I definitely like better than Los Tres Amigos. The only reason I didn't give them 4 Stars is the service is not always great. I am big on checking in on your tables to make sure your guest have everything they need, especially drink refills. Staff is friendly. I would like to know however why all entrees don't come with beans and rice? They either come with one or none? If you add it is way over priced for beans and rice, I mean come on the cost on both is more than likely the lowest other than chips. Need to remember not to have mexican food in the Midwest. I ordered the combination chili relleno burrito and enchilada. Couldn't tell the burrito from the enchilada both were a flour tortilla and ground beef with sauce on top. The relleno had every little cheese in it. Well the meal started with chips and salsa and salsa was watered down with no flavor. The chips were actually good but that's probably because they didn't make them and only heat them up before serving. We ordered the nacho appetizer/dinner because that is all they have besides fajitas nachos and fiesta nachos which didn't really qualify as a good nacho plate in our opinion. The nachos came and looked sad. They had white cheese on them which was also watered down and thankfully we had the chips from earlier because you actually get more free chips in a basket than you get ordering nachos. Not going back there. Their food is good and reasonable price- BUT today my husband and I went there and the first thing I said when she said what would you like to drink was- "a 2.99 Margarita". After 5 on Sunday through Thursday they offer $2.99 Margaritas. It was 5:10pm. My husband said he'll have the same. We got our bill and they charged us $8 each for our drinks. They would not change the bill until my husband demanded them too. It felt like they were purposely trying to rip us off. My husband clearly heard me say 2.99. Out shopping and needed some lunch. What a pleasant surprise to find this restaurante just around the bend. Decor is typical, bright, warm and inviting. Mexicano music heard quietly playing overhead. Reminiscent of SW Detroit spots. Many selections are found on the menu. I ordered the Enchilada Supremas lunch special. One beef, one chicken and one cheese. This turned out to be very good. Each enchilada was flavorful, packed and topped with ranchero sauce, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. They have a full bar with Dos Equis cerveza on draft along with domestics. And a nice variety of tequilas to choose from. I ordered a Lime Margarita made with Patron. Which was a nice compliment to my lunch with just the right amount of kick. The service is fast and the bi-lingual staff is friendly. The next visit will include an order of fried ice cream. read more

After finishing up some errands, met up with friends to have lunch... I selected El Patron and I was told this was their favorite Mexican restaurant. As you approach the restaurant, there's a big sign identifying the restaurant... they have outdoor patio seating area and their windows are covered with painting, thus you cannot see inside the restaurant. I walked in and said, need table for five with two kids. As soon as I got seated, the chips and salsa came out, the waiter asked what I wanted to drink... since they had Pepsi products, I settled for water (sorry, I'm a coke fan). The chips and salsa were excellent. The chips came out warm, which was a nice touch. As I waited for my friends to arrive, I studied their menu... being first timer, I was overwhelmed... but studied the menu page to page to see what I wanted to eat. Once the friends arrived, we ordered right away. I went with speedy Gonzalez, which came with one taco, one enchiladas and option of beans or rice... went with rice. I also ordered tamales. The food came out within five minutes... granted the restaurant wasn't busy, but I was taken back by how quickly the foods came out... I know some side items are ready to go... but foods came out quicker then ordering at Taco Bells. Okay... enough said... verdict on the foods. - Chips & Salsa - excellent! Couldn't stop eating them. - Tamales - wasn't sure what to expect (which meat)... when I got it, it was covered with melted cheese, ground beef and gravy on top. The tamales were dried... the gravy didn't help... I've never had a tamales served in this fashion, but I'm always up for new experiences. I would not order this next time I'm there. - Speedy Gonzalez - the enchiladas was okay... the sauce on top was bland and could have used more flavor. The rice was little dried... it had chunks of peppers and ground beef - not sure if this was an accident or not... but was kind of surprised to ground beef in my rice.... something new for me. As for the taco... well... the taco's from Taco Bell was better... it lacked flavors... the ground beef had no seasoning. Overall, not bad... the service was excellent... food was decent... Next time I'm there, will have to try other dishes on the menu. read more

I have to say this place is A-Ok. Great wait staff, and big selection on the menu. I, however, was not a fan of their ground beef. The look and texture is what I can only describe as what I believe would be akin to cat food. I have never known chile rellenos to have a heap of ground beef atop, but ok. I scraped it off and dug in. Wasn't too bad. Wished their was more cheese, but the ground beef was substitute and I wasn't havin' it. I have avoided the place since it looked kind if plain from the outside. What a mistake'! The food is great and I have found a new treat in Howell! I had the Shredded Beef Burritos Verde. Taste was fantastic- fresh and bold. It comes with rice and beans- and a 32 ounce Dos Eques topped off a great meal. Service was superior- I came on a Thursday night and there were six waiters/ waitresses on duty. Service was FAST and I look forward to visiting with my wife very soon. After running errands up and down Grand River, we stopped by here for lunch. We were seated right away. Tortilla chips and salsa was good as well as our lunch -which came super fast-under 15 mins. I had the carnitas plate and husband had the pechuga tapatia. Delicious! read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! We had the absolute worst experience today. My mom and I both ordered fajitas and they arrived to the table so burned that we could not eat them. We sent them back and when they were remade they were just as burned as the food we had sent back. I understand that kitchen staff can have "off" days so I wasn't upset. This was actually the first time I had ever received bad food food from El Patron and we've been dining here for years. We asked that the cost of the fajitas be taken off our bill and the manager would only remove the charge for one order even though we did not eat either entree. After arguing the manager took a few more dollars off our bill but not the cost of the entire entree. I was floored that I was expected to pay for food that was so burned it could not be eaten. When trying to explain why I didn't think I should have to pay for the inedible food the manager completely shut down and wouldn't even look at me. He literally would not look at me. He just started shifting things around on the counter with his head down. It was by far one of the worst customer service experience I have ever had. Had the manager apologized for the situation and made it right I would have been more than happy but after the way I was treated I will be taking my business elsewhere. The restaurant was not one of my favs. I was new to the area and I was looking for new food restaurants to go to with my mom and brother. When we got there our set is was poor with the waiters taking 30 mins to get us out order. ( now reading I know I sound entitled but I'm not) Once we placed our order we waited1 hour for food. Place was so gross. They charged us $17 dollars for margaritas that were "higher end" but had no hint of alcohol. Not to mention they charged us an extra $2 for strawberry flavor but didn't mention anywhere on the menu or verbally it would be an extra $2. We went there on a whim (SIKE, we did tons of research) and weren't quite sure what to expect... well let me tell you... The bottom-less chips and salsa were a plus and the chips that came out were clearly freshly made. We attended with a party of 6 and everyone in the party was content if not excited about their meal! I myself ordered a meal (with knowledge of gluten and what would and would not have gluten) and when it came out my partner asked the server (for his own re-assurance) if the tortilla's were corn and the waiter immediately became concerned and said yes, but they are fried in the same oil as flour (COMPLETELY blanked my mind). The server, Leonardo, was so kind to take the meal back and help me find what I was able to eat. Margarita's, corn chips, good company, and amazing décor. The main reason for the one star is the service. Went there on Wednesday. Three of us in our party. When they brought out the dinners they just shove them in front of you and walk away. I received the wrong dinner and realized is right away and did not eat it, thinking I could catch the waiter and let him know. Eventually after more than 5 minutes we were able to track him down and request the correct dinner. He took the wrong meal back to the kitchen or somewhere. About 10 minutes later a different wait person brings out the same exact meal on the same plate and drops it in front of me. She starts to walk away, and I quickly tell her its the same wrong meal. Another 15 - 20 minutes go by before I get the correct meal. By this time, my wife and son have already finished their meal. Never did they ask us if we want refills. The margarita I got was the one for $2.99. Don't make the mistake of getting this margarita on special, as it is watered down. I also requested water, which the server forgot and we had to ask repeatedly for a glass of water. The food was ok, but seemed to lack flavor. Next time we will go to 3 Amigos in Howell. I should have listened to my son when he suggested it. Overall, it really seemed like the servers and management didn't care. It wasn't that busy. The servers just shoved the food in front of us, never asked how the food was or if we needed anything else. read more

The food is very ..very flavorful! Outstanding food surprises to find that it did not hold back for the locals. The service was good. I'd only ask for quicker replenishment of tortillas. Man this food is the best Mexican food I've had in the US. Even by any standards to any in Mexico. If you want a real taste of Mexico don't look anywhere else.
