I haven't had tacos this delicious since I ate at my favorite taco truck in California. I mean it these are the Best tacos in town. The enchiladas were also amazing and so was the rice and beans so delicious! The three taco meal is a good portion and on top of all of that it was so fresh and travels great, I live five miles away and our take out was not soggy and was still hot and delicious. I feel like this is the most authentic Mexican food around and we are now regulars for sure. Highly recommended. read more

this is the authentic Mexican food I grew up eating in Detroit. to find out the owner worked at the place I went to all the time back then. apparently her brother owned it. the food is so good. the best tacos you will eat. they are deep fried shells that make them extra good. tostadas, burritos, quesadilla so good. her guacamole is made fresh for each order and is the best. so glad they are here in Howell. I hadn't visited Mexicali Allie's (downtown) and have avoided this place for the reviews. Since the chicken and rib place a few doors down was closed down, and this was open, I decided to see for myself. The server (only employee I saw, the owner?) was certainly friendly enough and the food was quite good. The way I remember it from downtown. I have no idea what all the bad reviews are about. This was my first time trying this restaurant and it will be my last. I have over 20+ years of customer service and I have never received worse customer service experience than I did at this restaurant. There is another review about this restaurant that talks about staff being rude and it couldn't be more spot on. Specifically, the elder older blonde women working the register. In addition to staff being rude, their pricing of food items is a scam and misleading. The prices of their meals on the website do not match the prices listed in the restaurant. When bringing this up bc my order was higher than expected (bc I ordered takeout off the website) I was told, "we haven't updated our website in 3 years so there's nothing I can do for you." I asked if they would honor the prices I thought I was paying off the website, the elder blonde women said she wouldn't and "the prices are what they are." Lastly, the food descriptions on the site are wildly in accurate with what actually comes on meals. For example, the Mexican sandwich is topped with a "gravy sauce" ....which, on the online menu, there is no mention of gravy sauce in the food description. If your appreciate good customer service, price integrity, and just basic patron to restaurant experience, do not go to this restaurant. read more

To start, Mexicali and More used to Mexicali Allies in downtown Howell. They closed a bit ago and have opened under a new name in a new location. This being said, I was not overly impressed with my experience. The menu is limited. This is fine. The food is ok. The decor is lackluster. Everything is muted and gray. I'm not saying you have be "Olay! We are Mexican!" but some color would be great rather than all gray. You can tell they just opened with the lack of organization, putting in tickets for sour cream, which held up the kitchen. They have little glasses, which our waitress had to come back three times to refill. I would be willing to try them again down the road, but I think they have a bit of work to do to get there. read more

I would give no stars if possible or for the owner and wait staff if I could. The owner complains about her guests to the wait staff and the wit staff does the same. The complaining is done in earshot of the customer so the customer knows they are being disrespected by the establishment. I work to hard for my money and have stopped supporting this establishment. We'll with the stop in. It's located in a strip mall off of grand River. I didn't know they were there. I was waiting for a Hearts pizza on Valentine's Day at hungry Howies when I noticed the little restaurant. It used to be Mexican alley in downtown Howell relocated to this location. Very worth stopping in because the food is fresh upon order. The lettuce is chopped per meal and the food is authentic Mexican cooking. It's a family running it and very efficient and timely to get your order to the table. The tacos are amazing, the nachos are abundant, and every dish is fresh and looks delicious. They also serve various beers, and of course the famous margaritas. The staff is friendly and ready to please. read more

Good food - HORRIBLE Customer Service. We supported this restaurant at least 5 times during the stay at home order. Each time we ordered we had a quantity of 5 or more meals. This last time we ordered we were greeted by an angry, unreasonable woman who acted like we were bothering her for wanting to support her and her industry. While the food is very good, we cannot be treated this way or disrespected. I'm not going into full details, but this will be our LAST order from there. Sadly, I don't think the owner and management really care if we return or not. Tip: Work on your customer service before you don't have anymore customers. read more

Best Mexican food in the area. We moved from Arizona a few years ago and really have been missing the authentic Mexican food there. Mexicali is the closest that we've come to the Mexican food we grew up with. The crunchy shells are the BEST and really make the difference here. They're not the store bought, bland shells found elsewhere. The included salsa is flavorful (albeit thin) and the beans have good flavor, too. The service is hit or miss. We've only ever taken out, but sometimes have experienced rude service picking up. My husband was reprimanded for asking for sour cream upon arrival and forgetting the number we were given to pick up. Why not just use names and keep it simple? This isn't to say we haven't had good service- sometimes they are very friendly, too. It just depends on who the cashier is that day in our experience. read more

This is easily the best Mexican I've had in Michigan. I've been from east to west, north and south in Michigan, and this is better. The servers and the owner are absolutely wonderful people. Unfortunately I agree with the poor reviews. I give them a chance about every 10 years but the service is lacking or downright rude. Some of the all caps wording on the menu is the first clue the will treat you like you're in a prison cafeteria. My Fiancé and I were the only customers there a few weeks ago-trying to support after the pandemic. No masks required, we're both fully vaccinated and they didn't want us moving a chair to sit next to each other! We asked to move to a table that had closer together seats and the woman rudely said they could get a rush of people and we'd be taking up the larger table. Very condescending service. Last time we will ever go to this restaurant. Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. It's sad as the food is decent but don't you dare ask for any adjustments to what the menu offers or any add ons you will not only be told NO, you will rudely be told NO. With all the covid craziness we have tried to support our local businesses. I'm doing keto so I asked not to have chips in my salad which was acceptable to them but how dare I ask for a side of avocado or guac. I was screamed at that they do not do sides and they have only hard avocados.....avocado or guac at a mexican restaurant? If they can't get that right, they should get our of the business. we have gotten take out here every couple weeks during this past year. Always pretty good. Today was very good, they have Margarita's now. My wife had a huge smile on her face when she came out, after removing her mask, she went back in and came out with a couple sealed bags to take home.$8 ea. I got chunky beef burrito dinner, very good, beef ,cheese and tortilla, pretty basic but just what I wanted. Wife got a combo and loved it. I had high hopes for this place. My girlfriend said she loved the place and the food was good when it operated in downtown Howell. I had the tacos because I figure go for the most basic food and if they get that right they have the fundamentals down. Unfortunately, I was surprised to eat what I beleive was essentially a traveling carnival's idea of what is Mexican food, or even Tex-Mex food. So good, I love how everything is made from scratch in-house. Although people are complaining about the decor, I adore the old photos of Mexico and Mexican culture that they put up.
