Guys! We try to support your business but our food is terrible today. The queso and chorizo is all chorizo and a tablespoon of queso. Also the chorizo is burnt. Chimichanga has raw shell on it, totally wasn't fried. Couldn't eat that or the fundido, went straight in the trash. I paid $30 for this food. Never should have let that mess go out the door have some pride in your food. You would think at a time like this you would really want to put out some awesome food. We try to support a business a week, I cannot see myself going back here. I'm so disappointed. read more

I knew we were asking for trouble when deciding to go out on Saturday at 6:30p. We had tried El Toro before, always ok. Tonight the wait staff was seriously short handed. This place is good. We will definitely be back. I had the carnitas with rice and beans. Rice was on point, beans were a little bland. The carnitas were great and flavorful. My husband had the poblano shrimp and he really liked it. We both had margaritas and they were definitely not fresh (maybe from a concentrate), but they were good nonetheless. Four stars specifically for having DELICIOUS al pastor tacos. I don't know why they aren't on the menu, but do yourself a favor and order them the next time you're there. Gross! First of all, my family got FOOD POISONING here. Will never go back. Second, food is disgusting! Everything was super bland & tasteless. Meat (chicken & steak) in tacos, burritos & enchiladas were all cold. Tasted like there was no spice or anything just poorly cooked low quality meat. My order was incorrect. I was not served the sides of rice and beans that were supposed to come with my entree. When I questioned the server he told me they didn't come with it & never brought them This was not correct. So I paid for an entree I didn't even get. My plate was served cold, nasty & half full. Also it wasn't clearly marked that gratuity was included so I double tipped on absolutely nasty food that I did not even get. Seriously Taco Bell would have better. So if you want to chance way overpaying for getting food poisoning eating super gross tasting food that should not even be considered 'Mexican, go here. Our first time in just moved to the area. We went about 4 pm. There was a nice size crowd so I was encouraged. Server was friendly and fast. The chips and salsa were fresh. Not super spicy but we asked for hot sauce and it was delicious. We ordered a combo of Vegetarian burrito with spinach and mushroom and an enchilada with peppers. Both were great and flavorful. Being regulars of El Patron, we thought we would try Mi Zarape. I ordered the Alhombre platter and substituted jalapeños for green peppers. I love spicy but this may have taken it over the edge! I recommend just adding jalapeños to the dish. Flavor was excellent. I also ordered chicken and beef hard tacos. They were excellent. The meat on both was extremely juicy and well flavored. My wife and son ordered both the shredded chicken and shredded beef enchilada verde. Again, both were flavorful and juicy. I especially liked the beef. Service was good and the food was fresh. My wife loved the salsa. It was obviously very, very fresh I have been searching for an excellence Carne asada as it is my favorite dish when I visit Mexico. I have not been able to find an authentic carne asada in this area but I'm hoping they can meet that challenge. If nothing else I will be sure to go back for the tacos and salsa. I waffle between 3.5 and 4.0 stars. It's always tough to give a Mexican restaurant five ,or even four stars, when relative to true fine dining. On second try I think this place is kinda pricey for what you get. $9 for a combo plate that doesn't come with rice and beans standard? Maybe that's a stretch. Service is still really good and the chips and salsa are fresh but the entree makings are pretty standard. Last night I tried the Enchiladas Verde with shredded beef. My wife had a beef burrito/enchilada/taco combo (no rice or beans with the plate). Mine was pretty good. The tomatillo sauce was bright and tangy and the guacamole and sour cream on the side was a nice added touch but beans with my rice would've been appreciated. My wife's food was OK. The beef was pretty plain and the red sauce over her plate tasted a lot like tomato sauce. For the two plates, a side of beans, a beer and the tip we were out the door or under $40 but Taco Bell is starting to look pretty good in comparison. Mi Zarape is the only game in town, maybe it's time for some competition to up the ante. read more

Mi Zarape is one of only a few 'authentic' Mexican restaurants in Livingston County. Located at the back of a strip style shopping center off Grand River in Brighton, there is a surprising amount of character inside. The walls are each a different bright color, as are the tables and they play Mexican music at a slightly louder than necessary volume. Parking is plentiful and convenient. They have a large menu with typical Mexican offerings: burritos, chimichangas, tacos etc. They offer seafood options of most types of food, which is different than many of the other local Mexican places. My husband and I have been to Mi Zarape 3 times. The first time was perfect - we went at dinner time on a Sunday evening. There was no wait, it wasn't crowded, our food came quickly and our service was great. The food tasted fresh and the portions were large. The second time we came was for lunch. It was a Saturday afternoon and we ordered from the lunch menu. Our server was very brief with us, initially, so the service right away left something to be desired, though I assumed it was a language-barrier issue. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla, and when they brought it out it was HUGE. The server sat both of our meals down and then looked at me and said 'you ordered the lunch portion, didn't you?' and I said yes. He proceeded to pick my plate up and walk away. No explanation, nothing. My husband was finished with his food before the server returned with a smaller version of mine, which was poorly put together and had only 3 shrimp in it. I was not thrilled with this experience, obviously, and would have been fine with never returning. Unfortunately, my husband loves their Taquitos, so we went again last night, which was a Tuesday. We were greeted by a friendly person at the door, sat and ordered quickly. They brought us chips and salsa, which we nibbled while we waited for our entrées. The salsa is quite good, the chips are too thick and too bland for me. Not convinced that they are homemade. Our food came quickly and was accurate. The food was flavorful and plentiful. My husband ordered his favorite, Taquitos Mexicanos, which is 2 beef and 2 chicken taquitos and couldn't have been happier. He rated it 8/10. I tried for the shrimp quesadilla again and swapped the rice for refried beans. I give it a 5. Again, the flavors were good, but it wasn't really a quesadilla - it was more like an unwrapped burrito or a fajita - lots of tomatoes and onions and peppers. There were only a few shrimp in it, and almost no cheese. Also, the refried beans were gray and pasty. We'll probably end up coming again, but only when my husband picks the place. read more

Its unfortunate that there is a rating of no stars because this is the WORST place that I have ever eaten at. But let's start with what is good. The restaurant itself is clean and well kept. Yep...that's about it After being seated, me and my friend waited a significant amount of time before being asked for our drink order. When our server returned with our drinks and asked us if we ready to order, we requested a little more time. 17 mins later, after flagging our server to take our order, he took our order. Food arrived it what seemed to be a reasonable time. My enchiladas were served with an additional plate of rice and beans; however, minutes later, the server returned an apologized the additional plate was actually for another table. I understand, so I watch as he takes this plate and serves it to another table? Are you serious? The food, was at best, luke warm. The foods presentation was nothing to write a home about; however the taste...bland. The chicken was dry and it was questionable if the tortillas were flour or corn. I sent my food back and was told that they would remake my plate. The return plate was nice and hot, but the taste was still forgettable. It seemed after sending my food back, the server made every attempt to avoid our table. 27 minutes later, he finally returns to ask how everything was and got an earful. He was taken a back, returned with our check and immediately left. After deciding to wait a short time, we took our to the register and got out of there. Summary: Repeatedly received sub-par food and service here, so I won't be back. I really wanted to like this place because I love Mexican food, and there isn't a good Mexican joint in Brighton. I've gone here a few times hoping for a better experience, and I'm finally giving up. Went here this past Sunday with a friend, and here's how it went. We ordered two margaritas (we ordered what the waitress said was the strongest one), a taco salad, and veggie fajitas. I asked if the margaritas were a mix, and the waitress said "no". Okay, great! The waitress brought us chips and salsa, which were warm, and good. Our margaritas were ALL sugar, and if there was tequila in them, it was watered down. Furthermore, I watched her pour the margarita straight from an old milk jug - yuk! So, they were pre-mixed...Our chips and salsa ran out (because who honestly doesn't crush a basket of chips at a Mexican place?!), but she never offered to bring more. Then when I asked for more, she forgot. Our food arrived in a timely manner, and my fajitas looked good, but the taco salad was a total joke. I wish I had taken a picture. It was this sad little taco shell, some shredded lettuce, shredded watery chicken, and some shredded cheese on top. My friend barely touched it. I finished my fajitas, and they are the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one. Then we sat and waited for the bill for about 20 minutes. They had us wait over an hour for food that was supposed to be ready in "20 minutes" and each time we asked for an update "just 5 more minutes" even spoke with the manager who said they would personally deliver food and headed into the kitchen only to walk out with several other people's food and had us wait even longer. I live in Phoenix (just visiting family) and this place is the bombbbb for non-authentic Mexican food. I had the camarones Yucatán and it was fire. Shrimp cooked perfectly and flavorful. My mom and aunt enjoyed their meals too. The service wasn't the best in the entire world but it was not terrible either. Surprised that ours was so good when some people's photos look sub par! Anybody who thinks this is authentic Mexican food has never eaten food made by real Mexicans. We moved here from Arizona last year and have been looking for that food we crave since we arrived... alas, this is another local "Mexican" place that isn't Mexican. (The other two places we tried that are not real Mexican are The Lyon Cantina, in South Lyon and Border Cantina in Brighton.) The meat in my tamale looked like it was canned- greasy and too salty ground beef dumped out on top of some bits of corn bread. (Very similar to the beanless chili they dump on top of Coney Dogs in Detroit) My relleno was raw and soggy. Uncooked peppers lay under the top layer, which was smothered in what looked like a white sauce at first, but what I discovered was uncooked batter. Ick. Not even edible, really. For real Mexican food, try Mexican Town in downtown Detroit or Alchili Mexican Grill in Commerce Township. The latter is owned by authentic Mexican people who moved here from Mesa, AZ and really know their stuff! Worth the short drive to avoid eating the yucky stuff. read more

I will give them two stars simply because the food is pretty good. But our server tonight, was absolutely god awful . For starters, I ordered 3 beef tacos with queso. He brought out 3 bland tacos hardly any beef, and shredded cheese on the side. We waited 20 minutes to even be able to ask for the melted queso like we wanted. My boyfriend only got 2 fajita shells that were somehow supposed to work for an entire plate of veggies and steak. We finally got the queso to come out and then I kid you not 40 minutes later after that we still were not given our bill . Our server didn't look in our direction or even come near us to ask once . We tried to ask the manager but there wasn't anyone around to ask. We ended up leaving $40 which covered it and still tipped him when we should've just left without paying. Horrible read more

Really bland and not a lot of flavor. I stopped in for a late dinner and a combo plate of a chalupa and enchilada. The "chalupa" turned out to be a tostada with beans, lettuce, guacamole and a slice of tomato. One slice of tomato. The guacamole was half brown and liquidy -- how does that happen?! The enchilada had very little flavor with the corn tortilla having a bizarre texture and the cheese being some bizarre cross between cream cheese and actual cheese. I was so put off I left it after two bites. The only thing edible was the chips and salsa, but even then the salsa was so mild. The refried beans were just as bland. I took a few bites of everything, then just are the chips and salsa. No one seemed to care that I pretty much didn't eat my food and took it away. All the patrons here were "white." I'm sorry to say, but I still think it's a good measure when I see some people of the ethnicity eating at my ethnic places. There's no such thing happening here because all the good was bland and had no flavor! There are better Mexican places in the area. Avoid. read more

This Mi Zarape location just opened (not exactly sure when) but it's so new it doesn't even have it's liquor license yet (but coming soon). I went for dinner with the fam and we all loved our dishes...even my FIL who is not a big ethnic food eater! I have been craving Mexican and looking on yelp nothing in Brighton really has good reviews so I'm hoping Mi Zarape stays open and does well so it can be our local Mexican joint! We got to start with complimentary chips and salsa that we dug into like crazy since we were so hungry. The salsa wasn't hot at all so everyone enjoyed it. My husband and FIL got enchiladas that were super delicious. Full of really savory, tender meat. I got a combo platter with a burrito and a taco, both with chicken. Both were also very good and came with rice and beans. My MIL got a chicken burrito and while I didn't try it at the restaurant I had some bites of her leftovers and it was delicious! Not too much cumin which is not my favorite spice. The enchiladas came out with "guacamole salad" on the side which was just a serving of guac and a serving of sour cream over a little bed of shredded lettuse. The guac was REALLY good. Next time I'll definitley want to start with some chips and guac! The menu was huge, a whole book practically, I look forward to eating my way through it! read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Brighton. I've been here multiple times and have yet to be disappointed. You start with complimentary chips and salsa that are very good. And there is a large selection to choose from the menu. The enchiladas and burritos are good. But I think the tacos are the best. Let me start out by saying I made a Yelp! account with the sole purpose of writing this review. I am generally a very forgiving and understanding person, having worked my fair share of jobs and having to deal with displeased customers. Most often I give the benefit of the doubt. Decent food and nice enough service, but this restaurant experience was not worth my time or money. I had driven by this restaurant and seen quite and few cars in the lot and a friendly inviting atmosphere which I thought were reassuring signs of a good business. We were seated at a booth that had some food on the seats, which I made a point to brush off myself in front of the hostess, which she failed to acknowledge or apologize. Next, I ordered the Mixed-Fajita based off the picture that was labeled and clearly had beef, chicken and shrimp. I asked the waitress: "Does the mixed-fajita come with shrimp?" which she replied "Yes". When my food came, there was no shrimp. I asked the waitress again if it did or did not come with shrimp. She took my plate, came back and said it was actually the Texas-Fajita (or whatever the actual dish-name was). While she was nice enough and apologized for her mistake, I was a bit miffed when she charged more for the Texas-Fajita despite the mistake in both the menu and by the waitress. With the fajita I was given 3 small flour tortillas. I asked the waitress if I could have a couple more to finish the food that was served to me. She said she could but it would be at an extra cost. NEVER have I ever gone to a Mexican restaurant (or any restaurant) that charged EXTRA for a couple of flour tortillas!!! On top of all that, there was an extra fee for paying with a credit card. Everything seemed sub-par to me and is nothing I would go out of my way to try again. I will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Me and my best friend loved the food ! I had ordered the chicken tamales and she ordered the steak burrito. My tamales were very good although they were a bit too soft. My friend said her burrito was very good, and the steam was cooked perfect. The only issue I had was the service. Our server was very rude and impatient. I asked if the chicken had vegetables precooked in it and he said no, which wasn't true. I also asked for a napkin which I never received, had to beg for a refill, all while we were seated directly behind the Register where our server spent a good amount of time. Our server never even asked if we enjoyed the food. Hope this helps someone and I hope no one has the same experience as me again. read more
