Food was less than good I had stuffed jalapeños and they were pieces of jalapeño in cream cheese that appeared to be fried multiple times. The taco was flavorless the meat had no seasoning. And the wings tasted like something from the freezer section at A grocery store. I sat at the bar and the hostess was also the bartender waitress server she was polite but that was it! I love Mexican food and have tried most places in the metro area. Most places have that dish that's the bomb dot com. For MiZarape it's the chicken chimichangas. It's sooo not that old school ChiChi's junk. For one, they come in pairs and are smaller then that humongous fried beast most places serve. Second the chimi is a flour tortilla lightly fried to give it a sophisticated texture. What sets it apart is this creamy white cheese sauce they coat the chimi with. Really any dish there with the cheese sauce is out of bounds! I can't be sure if it actually has crack in it but, it is white so I'm just saying maybe. read more

Good Mexican is hard to come by and even with this app, trusting reviews has wronged me. This place had great salsa, guacamole, and steak burrito. Well....unfortunately I am writing a bad review. First off we sat at the bar and had a drink while we waited and order carry out. Two of the waitstaff were sitting four or five seats away and were speaking so loud to the point that we thought it was rude. I particularly love the Spanish language and think it is very beautiful, but these guys were obnoxious. Okay, now the food. We ordered a steak quesadilla, a chalupa, two tacos, rice and a tostada. There was literally no flavor to the meat and the steak quesadilla was OKAY at best. We took a couple bites of the Chalupa and were so disappointed that we didn't even eat it. First time here tonight, and we enjoyed it. Nice bright space. Huge menu. The food was good. My husband loved his Guadalajaran burrito. He really liked the shrimp and the kick the chorizo sausage added to the burrito. We had the Mexican margaritas. They were good, no comparison to my beloved rolls Royce margarita at Border Cantina. Chips and salsa were ok. I wish the salsa had more flavor. I had a combo of chicken burrito and something else that started with a t but I can't remember what it was called. Both were well prepared, but could have used more seasoning. I added salsa and hot sauce. We are definitely going back, and I will order something a little more adventurous. Hidden gem in Brighton - I am surprised it is not as busy as you would expect it to be. Great service and environment. I highly recommend the restaurant as it is the best in town. To be honest, I give this place a five star or a three star. It seems to depend on the day lately. I wish it wasn't so up and down. Regardless it's still the best Mexican restaurant in town. I did TRY to go here on May 5th for Cinco. The place was packed and I sat at the bar to just get a take out order and a drink or two while I waited. I didn't see a employee behind the bar and I waited a legit 15 minutes, still nada. Had to leave. They need to be on alert next May 5th (I know Cinco is not a "thing" in Mexico) but I was not the only person that left. They lost a lot of money that day. Tried for the first time and would not go back. The service was ok, but the food was very bland and not very authentic. The taco shell seemed like a taco bell shell, not homemade. This is the only (close to) authentic Mexican food in Brighton. For our limited selection in the area, I would say this place is the best. The freshly made tortilla chips are good and the salsa and guacamole are great. On occasion I visit just for the excellent margaritas and the chips and salsa! The staff is friendly, the establishment is very clean, and it is pretty clear that the ownership takes pride in providing nice ambiance for their guests. This restaurant is a bit hidden; tucked near the back of Brookside Mall and is not easily seen from Grand River Avenue, so I am glad that I eventually happened upon it! read more

Service was pretty sub-par. Took forever to get drinks, we were ignored most of the night. My mom asked what the specials were and we were told there were none. MUY MALO- that about sums up my recent dinner visits. There are so many Mexican restaursants serving better food in the area you wonder why Mi Zarape even bothers. On my recent visit here on a Thursday night the place was empty- go figure. Our server was a beginner- literally. And that's okay except she got no-zero- support from management. Drinks took forever and when they arrived half were wrong. They never did get it right so we gave up and drank water. And the food- AWFUL. Chicken and Beef Tacos or Burritos were filled with dry, stringy meat and few veggies. If you order anything with cheese sauce be prepared for a flood of metal-tasting canned cheese. Their version of Carnitas can best be described as eating Hay. Four out of five entrees arrived after a 40 minute wait- the fifth arrived as we were paying our check. No one associated with the restaurant seemed to care. One bright light- the standard salsa rojo is good- thankfully so since this is what our party of five ended up eating for dinner. And the management- a career change is called for emphatically here since they clearly don't give a hoot about the business. After several attempts to address our issues with the manager on duty we just gave up. He begrudgingly took the fifth entree off our bill since we never had a chance to eat it. When Mi Zarape closes here (and the sooner the better), let's hope that the next restaurant operator cares about quality food and service. read more

It is so frustrating to go to a restaurant and get unacceptable service...it is from the shortest guy there with dark hair usually. He does not smile, he will not refill chips without making too big of a deal about it and it is a BIG deal to get to-go containers. My friend and I love the chips and salsa, so we keep going back, but I truly would rather have better service and ok food. I've enjoyed many meals at Mi Zarpe. I've tried some more of the authentic Mexican dishes and the "Americanized" ones. Both were good, but the more authentic you venture the better your meal seems to be in my opinion. Don't love the margaritas, but a draft beer with lime is great. I enjoy the free salsa and chips and have never had a issue with getting more from the severs. With coupons I've gotten really good deals, but even at full price it's decent. Not an out of this world dinning experience, but it's solid and family friendly. Servers are friendly and quick, but I have had a few delays getting our bill. The only Mexican option in the downtown Brighton area I'd trust for a quick lunch or dinner. It's much much better than other area restaurants as other reviewers have mentioned. read more

I'm obsessed with this restaurant! The food is amazing, the prices are very reasonable and the service is very fast and friendly! Good Mexican food was much needed in Brighton. I feel that the restaurant isn't in the best location as far as visibility, so I sure hope more people try it out. I truly hope that Mi Zarape flourishes! read more

Umm, where to start. Ordered a margarita and to my surprise there was no liquor in it. So I moved over to jack and coke which was fine. While siting at the bar I watched 1 more margarita made again without any liquor in it. I'm not sure what's going on here but seems a little fishy that this is happening more then once while I sat there. This was the absolute , worse Mexican food I have ever had! Even my Mexican food loving 8 year old hated it. Everything was bland and had a slightly off taste. Like it was going bad or something. They've really gone downhill since opening. Last time I was there everyone's order was messed up somehow and then when I paid (the check was 41- something) the girl asked me to read if so she could put it in the machine and somehow it ended up being $43. Even with their credit card free the math makes no sense. So our food was wrong and we overpaid for it. That really pissed me off. We've been going to Mi Zarape for years, in Saline and now in Brighton. The food has always been really good. We experienced very bad service when ordering takeout recently. I went over the order twice on the phone and when our food arrived home it was missing a dish. Upon calling I was told that we 'probably were not charged' for that dish. I asked what he would do to make it right, would he take down my information so I could be credited in the future, etc. He told me I didn't pay for the meal, so.... With many other choices for dining in this town workers should be trained by management that rudeness like this equals a lot of lost revenue in the future, and bad word of mouth. We went here on May 5th, also known as cinco de mayo. First of all, there was more people bartending than waiting on customers. There might've been 2 people in the kitchen. Before we even put in our name, a couple left and said "We waited 45 minutes and weren't served." About 10 minutes later, we put in our name and were seated. A nice group of people next to us told us that "We have been sitting here for 20 minutes, and we haven't even been served a drink." They had to take the waters on the table next to them, from the couple that left 10 minutes ago. The group of people also told us that the people on the side we were sitting at (there were about 3 different sections in the restaurant) haven't been served food in the last 15 minutes, and that they hadn't seen any food even come out of the kitchen. Also, the waitress told us before we were seated that "We don't have any menus available at the moment, but there is a menu online." That was just ridiculous. Never going there again. read more

***BEWARE*** When calling in a carryout, the lady on the phone was a bit rude, but I still ordered anyway. I got to the register and paid my bill and the hostess told me to go get my order off the other counter about 10 feet away, no problem I did but thought it was a bit odd. After returning to the office and going over the bill, I saw some discrepancies in the amount charged. Of course I saw their sign on the front door saying an additional charge of $.59 for using a credit card (This should just be a normal part of doing business) When I questioned about the pricing, she told me I had an old menu online and the prices just went up last week (Umhmmmm) then she said I ordered 3 sides of chips and salsa, I told her I did not order that and she argued and said I did (I think I would know if I ordered them) She told me I could bring the chips and salsa back and she would give me a credit for my next visit.
