This place is decent - not the best food I've ever had but the portion size is incredible for the price and the people working are super friendly. Online ordering is available and I've never had to wait long for my order. Most recently I had the rice bowl with pulled pork - it was chock full of rice, beans, and meat with an ample helping of cheese and crema as well. Everything was seasoned and it was packaged well for a takeout order. The place itself is small and simple - definitely not intended for dining in. Being on a quest for a decent Cuban sandwich, my wife stumbled upon this hidden little gem in Plymouth. The gentleman that was working (possibly the owner), when I went in was very courteous and pleasant. When we got home and started lunch, WOW! Amazing! This Cuban was probably one of the best I've ever had! We also ordered a shredded chicken torta and the chips and guacamole. Again, amazing! I was able to pull up the menu online and then order! Omg! Sooo great! You receive an email confirmation with the time your food will be ready. Once I got there, the individual helping me asked if this was my first time. Yes! It sure was. He let me know about their stamp card. Well, hello! Customer loyalty card! I like! I like! After paying and getting my card stamped, my food was packaged up and ready to take home. We ordered the wet burrito with brisket which comes with brown rice and beans and the El Torta with brisket. Omg. The flavors were out of this world. I had no self-control. My body said no more food and my brain said yes, yes, yes! Loved both dishes. *COVID19 Edition* Having been here twice now, I'd rate them at 3.5 stars which would be an average of our two experiences. The first time we went, we chatted with the owner/chef. We really enjoyed our food and marked it as a place we could go to get some good reliable Latin street food. Our second visit was a disappointment. The Cubano that I had ordered previously was burned this time around. Just enough to mess with the flavor of the actual sandwich. We also ordered the burrito which was just a mess of flavors. There really wasn't much to redeem the price tag that we had paid for dinner. If this is the level of food they're pushing out, then you're paying for Downtown Plymouth prices without much quality to back it up. As it stands, we're not in a rush to come back here anytime soon. We may try again in the future, after the pandemic is over and life returns to normal, but in summary, when they're good. They're good. When they miss, they really miss. read more

What began as a commissary for a food truck turned out to be a commissary and take out retail location. Very good people own/run this business. The El Toro sandwich was excellent! Just cheese which wasn't good(and creama on the side). Wasted almost $10. I needed to grab a quick bit to eat while waiting to have my car fixed. This pace was right across the street so I walked over, not really expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! I had a Fish and an Authentic taco, and some guacamole with chips. Everything was really, really good. And really fresh tasting. My lord! Just what the doctor ordered, especially during a pandemic. Located at the end of a small strip off Main Street, I am always overlooking this hidden gem as I slide into the liquor store (whom are a Plymouth staple themselves) but always think to myself that I should go for it one of these days. Well today was the day. And Bob overdelivered! "Hooked me up" with a little bit of chicken, a little bit of pulled pork, and a little bit of brisket in a rice bowl. And by little bit... I mean a heaping amount. 5/5 would try again, may add it into a weekly rotation for my work lunch. The moment he picked up the phone I knew I was in great hands- kind, friendly and wanting to please... during a time when human interaction is limited and desired. Thank you Bob! I've been coming to Beyond Borders since they opened, working in the Northville area. Then I moved within walking distance. Since we've been forced to stay close to home, tacos, burritos, and rice bowls have been a healthy part of our coping system. Here's my quick take: Bob's Mexican- and Cuban-style cuisine is consistent, very tasty, and affordable [for Plymouth]. His fare is certainly a step above mainstream Mexican that's drenched in cheese. Saying that, I'll add it's also a tad healthier too. Bob has the right ideas on how to run a business. He keeps things simple with a focus on quality, treats his customers very well, and makes sure he encourages everyone to return. It's like he cares or something. Whenever we go out to dinner and suggest Mexican, my 13-year-old moans and says, "I don't like Mexican food." I don't think we'll have difficulty talking her into it now that we've found Beyond Borders. She proclaimed their chicken quesadilla the best quesadilla she's ever had, and made the rest of us try it. She's right. It really is the best quesadilla any of us has had. Along with the abundance of cheese and meat in the perfectly grilled tortilla, there are a few spices and a light sauce, undetectable by the eyes of picky eaters. Our favorite Mexican restaurant closed several months ago, and we've been roaming the surrounding cities in search of a replacement to no avail, until now. The rest of our food was also delicious. My husband got 3 tacos--pork, beef, and chicken. His favorite was the shredded beef, which was slow cooked with carrots. The tacos were topped with pickled onions that were stellar. I ordered the wet burrito, and it was amazing! Packed full of yum and topped with more deliciousness. The owner, Bob, is crazy nice! This man loves what he does, and he does it well. He is friendly and personable with every customer, and asked us what we thought of everything twice. How did we overlook Beyond Borders since it opened a year ago? Great small place to get really tasty Mexican and Latin American food. Had the pleasure of meeting Bob, the owner, and he made us feel like we were already regulars, despite being our first time there. Bob was even nice enough to give us some extra breakfast burritos he had made earlier, to take home. Very awesome! I got the Cuban sandwich and it was very tasty. My wife had the enchiladas, which were good as well. The chips and salsa were excellent, and I would have ate them all but didn't want my son to get mad at me. Lol... Would definitely go there again if and when we are in the Plymouth area. Or suggest to the in-laws to go and grab something there before we come visit. So planning ahead... It's mostly a small takeout place so don't plan on going with a big group unless you are going for takeout. Found this spot because of all the good reviews, and it did not disappoint. Two of us shared the shrimp tacos, cuban sandwich, and chips & salsa. We ended up getting much more food from Bob (the owner)... he brought out a mini rice bowl for us, three types of meat (pork, brisket, and chicken) all were fantastic. Whoah. Latin street food is a perfect description of the fare we ordered. My cheesy enchilada was all that was needed to hook me in to Beyond Borders. So the restaurant is fairly new. It's near downtown Plymouth, you could walk there, but it isn't quite central. However, it is worth the walk or short drive to get some grub. It's also take our only which I appreciate as I'm sure it keeps prices low. Living in downtown Plymouth, I've tried most of the Latin inspired restaurants in the area. Beyond Borders has been my favorite so far. It's authentic, noticeably fresh, and you receive a lot of food for your money. My enchilada entree easily covered two full meals for me. My husband ordered a wet burrito and liked it, but needed to add more spice. Something to keep in my if you like your food hot. The tacos didn't look too special, we ordered one for my son, but I like the fact that you can choose your meat for any menu item or order it vegetarian. There were also vegan and gluten free options. The pulled pork and chicken were both super good. Overall, Beyond Borders is my new favorite local restaurant for Hispanic food. First of all, the owner is awesome. You can tell he loves food, and when we told him this was our first visit, he shared samples. I got to try a sample of the Caldo del Reyes, a broth-based beef soup. I thought it excellent, and would definitely order it if I was in the mood for soup. The beef was the flavorful brisket used in the other dishes. All too frequently, the beef in soup ends up with a water-logged bland flavor. This didn't happen in this soup, probably because brisket is one of the most flavorful of cuts, and the broth and vegetables were so good. My husband and I chose a wet burrito with brisket (based on the taste of the soup), a quesadilla with pork, and chips with guacamole. We planned to share all three dishes. First, the quesadilla was my favorite. The pork was so flavorful and tender. The heat was minimal, even topped with chipotle crema. Saying that, these quesadilla didn't lack for flavor, even with all the cheesy, creamy goodness. Would definitely order these again. The brisket in the wet burrito was good, but I didn't like it as well as the pork. The rest of the dish was a nice mixture of textures and flavors, with a great sauce and topped with crunchy lettuce. I think I would order this again, but would try pork or the chicken. I enjoyed the black beans that came with the dish, but thought the rice was pretty dry and lacking in flavor. I'm never a big fan of the Mexican rice side dish though. I was most disappointed by the chips and guacamole. The chips came out of a bag, and were pretty bland. The guacamole hit a sour note, and lacked in complexity beyond that flavor. I wouldn't order either again. read more

We ordered 6 different tacos in street and gringo styles. They had absolutely no flavor and all four meats we tried were incredibly dry. I had to drink water to get the bites down. I dont know what they're doing here, but its not good, Nothing here had any taste, it was like a bunch of flavorless products from cans just slapped together. They charge 3.50 for tacos and 10 dollars for burritos. Its absolutely absurd. My bill for a burrito w guacamole and two sodas was over 18 dollars. Even the specials are not a good value. and I mean the prices are one thing but the food isnt any good. I am always looking for a good local restaurant that I can become a fan of. Well Beyond Borders... the service was on par. The food was on par with Tex-Mex... in Michigan. There I said it. Was craving a burrito bowl so I stopped by this little place - so glad that I did! Owner was beyond nice and accommodating to what I was looking for! Burrito bowl is huge and delicious, a good amount of veggies and the pickled red onions are amazing!
