Came here on a Sunday morning around 10am for the buffet! It was a good choice because it was only getting busier the closer it got to 2pm! Everything was nice and clean and food was delicious! I enjoy the bar area the vibe is great, chill and rather quiet. Our bartender Evaristo made our day with great stories and advice. Having him as your server is what made our evening. He's attentive and always looking too at if we are doing well. This El Torito is much quieter and more attentive compared to the others in the valley. Can't beat the food and the happy hour prices. This place is must whenever you need to recharge or need an excuse to enjoy an afternoon. The manager Yvonne is very supportive and had a great attitude. I've been noticing that there are almost no reviews that mention the weekday buffet lunch. So my blushing bride and I tried it out this week. We both like El Torito and their Mexican food, no mattter how "gringo" it may be. It's comforting. And to get to sample a lot of everything is a real bonus! The variety of foods is actually quite good, from soup-and-salad to dessert. The favorites are there - chile colorado, chile verde, chicken, sauteed vegetable, "Spanish" rice, and two kinds of beans. And, of course, the El Torito corn mush. A lady was there making tortillas and tacos - beef, chicken and pork. A taco topping bar had everything one might want plus more. We enjoyed a lot of food. The dessert was the only thing that wasn't enjoyed. We did experience a bit of cold food, which we mentioned to the manager. He took immediate responsibility and checked the food that was in the buffet. It seems that we were early in the lunch hour and may have been eating from the first trays of food, which may not have been fully heated. Plus the plates were cold. The manager's immediate response and kind words were really appreciated. Well, I wanted to enjoy this and had high hopes. We went for the lunch buffet. First let me give you the positives: 1. Very nice staff 2. Plentiful parking 3. Nice decor Now the negatives: 1. Food quality and temperature was meh. The rice was burnt to the pan. The desserts were stale. The enchilada sauce tastes like ketchup. 2. The floor as you walked thru was sticky and your shoes stuck and released with every step. 3. This is the non-negotiable game-changing issue - a surcharge of 4% was on the check - never discussed or warned about. It was not for a Credit Card fee because this was on there pre-payment. Listen - raise the price if you need to but NEVER give unexpected unannounced charges. Won't be back. read more

Service was good, no complaints there. The decor is typical El Torito, bright and cheerful. The fod was a little bit disappointing though, my fish tacos were dry and chewy, not much flavor either. Went on Sunday for their Brunch with a party of 5 adults and 2 small kiddos. The food was great and fresh and the variety was way more than what I expected. Made to order omelets and tacos made with fresh tortillas made in front of you. The best part was the great service we received from our server Juan R. To be honest - I LOVE this place. Even when we lived in Cali for several years we frequented El Torito's and were never disappointed, we frequent this one whenever we visit LA because it is the closest to our daughters home in the Valley. Living in the UK where Mexican food is simply hardly available, and (in my experience) good Mexican food doesn't exist :(. So yes I was CRAVING Mexican food - which might bias my review. But OMG it was DELICIOUS - I had the top of the line Margarita (with the added shot of Grand Marnier) and it was to die for!!! I had to drive home afterwards otherwise I would not have stopped at one! Our servers were stellar and the service and ambiance were overall excellent - the atmosphere was welcoming, a buzz that was just right, the chips and salsa were great (yes we had refills!!) Met 3 friends for happy hour tonight. Our server, long hair in a braid with hot pink on the bottom. Not once did she check back with us. We had to try to get her attention every time we needed something.I ordered another drink; she went outside to bus tables. I followed up with her: she stated my order was in with the bar. She slammed my drink down on the table. Unacceptable behavior. My bill was 53.68 dollars. I left her a 4.00 tip. If I would have used a credit card; my tip would have been don't quit your day job. She should not be in the service industry with her attitude. I grew up in this industry. TIP means to insure promptness. The bar and patio were not full tonight. Just a party of 2, the restaurant wasn't busy, the service was virtually nonexistent. After being seated, waited 15 minutes to order then wait over 40 minutes and never received our food or drinks. No one checked in with us, there was no communication about delays. We decided to leave due to the complete lack of service. To make matters worse, the restaurant itself was noticeably unclean. Tables were left dirty, the floors didn't appear to have been swept, and overall hygiene standards seemed neglected. Before leaving, we spoke with the "Manager", Luis, to express our concerns. Unfortunately, he was dismissive, unapologetic, and didn't know the number for Corporate when we asked for a way to escalate the issue. Poor service is one thing--but when it's combined with a lack of cleanliness and zero accountability, it becomes unacceptable. We won't be returning and cannot recommend this location to others. read more

Came on a Tuesday night and was seated right away. Took a couple minutes for someone to attend to us, but it's ok. Chips and salsa were served to us, and we also ordered the queso dip. Queso dip was delicious but don't snack too much on appetizers bc the main dishes were too good. Mom ordered the seafood tacos with mahi mahi that came with beans, rice, and a corn ball. I'm hotter than my food. Her answer was we're all hot. I'm hot too and pointed to other areas around the bar, where we could possibly sit. When I got up to look around the area, she pointed at other people eating there were literally fanning themselves because it was so hot in there. As chains go El Torito is fine, this location is nice quite large clean. The food is good, but I have noticed that the portions have shrunk. A common issue when you order fajita's is running out of tortillas I have noticed on my past two visits the ratio of fajitas to tortillas has shifted to favor the tortilla a long way of saying you don't get enough meat and veg. If I was to point out one quality issue with the food was the first batch of chips tasted like very old stale fryer oil, the next batch was fine. Over all the experience was good the server was on top of things. But I will say the place was obviously understaffed on a Saturday night so there were a couple of sections they weren't using so the wait was 15 minutes or more for a table. read more
