Fantastic food and service for over 20 years at El Tequila Mexican Restaurant in Broken Arrow, OK. I ordered the chicken flautas w/ rice and 1/2 & 1/2 iced tea. I loved that they have a Christmas tree decorated for the holiday season. In the past I've had fajitas, carne asada, chimichangas, and tacos. Took my usual Friday trip to Broken Arrow today and had my youngest along for the ride. Had a couple stops along the way but me landed at El Tequila on Elm for lunch. TLDR: Not a great time. Food was mediocre and service was hit and miss. We arrived just after one, so we missed whatever lunch rush there might have been. We were seated promptly and got our drink order in when the guy brought the chips and salsa. Honestly, for me the salsa was the high point of the meal. The kid ordered beef nachos, no beans with guac and sour cream on the side. I went with the lunch special 3 enchiladas - 2 beef, 1 cheese, all with chili sauce - and refried beans and rice. We also asked for a small bown of queso to start. Pretty simple stuff, right? Apparently not so much. We never got the queso, and by the time our server bothered to check on us, the food was arriving, so I didn't see the point of getting it. Much like these places that bring your salad WITH your entree.... not sure which brain cells are firing there, but they ain't the right ones. To be fair, the kid's nachos looked great, and according to her, they were awesome. She also thinks top ramen is awesome... My order was pretty botched. I knew there was going to be a problem when the server couldn't understand I wanted the lunch special with the three enchiladas..... again, 2 beef, 1 cheese, chili sauce on top. She even reiterated to me "1 enchilada?"..... so I patiently explained for a third time. What I got was three beef enchiladas covered with queso, beans and rice. I mean if you're an optimist, 2 outta 3 ain't bad.... but I didn't see it that way. Thinking to make the best of it and just eat it anyway, I plowed in and couldn't do it. The cheese was so thick on top it was almost like eating glue. After several minutes the server stopped by to check on things and I again had to repeatedly explain to her what I ordered. She finally got it and hustled back to the kitchen, and in several more minutes a fresh plate arrived. To be honest, I was probably disenchanted at this point and that reflects in this review but it is what it is. The enchiladas were at least correct. 2 beef and one cheese. The chili sauce was this oddly orange color that had an aftertaste that was almost asian. Not at all the earthy, chile/cumin/beefy gravy most Tex-mex joints lay down, and what my palate was expecting. This stuff missed the mark by a wide margin. The beef was barely seasoned and the tortillas fairly tough. It was obvious they were fast rolled to correct a missed order and not done properly. I managed about half of the order and just didn't care anymore. Odd thing on the check was a $1.48 charge for "cheese for salsa", whatever that is. Honestly, I didn't care... I just wanted to go. Service was spotty at it's best. Not sure if our server was new or what, but she seemed to lack any comprehension of the menu and didn't really understand what I meant when I asked for the guac and sour cream "on the side". Prices were pretty reasonable, until you factor in the hassle and the quality, and then it goes sideways, at least for me. I've had better enchiladas in a frozen TV dinner. Since I don't live in BA and only make it there once a week or so I don't much expect I'll be back. read more

The ambience is really nice. The interior is clean and tastefully decorated. The service was ok, I should have asked for more water. The enchiladas verdes was very boring. The chicken was tough and I had to use the knife to cut it into bites. There was a very thin layer of cheese on the tortillas but couldn't really taste it. The green sauce was nice and tart, but it wasn't any better than I can get from a bottle at the grocery store. If the chicken had been tender and tasty, that would have made a huge difference. If there had been cheese I could taste would have made it better too. I just got the wrong thing. The beans and rice were... beans and rice. My mom got the Santa Fe. She loved it. My friend got the steak fajita nachos and she loved hers as well. I just chose poorly. read more

I'm not sure if it's new management or what but I feel like they are told to prioritize certain people over others, but this use to be our family night place hadn't been in a while decided to give it a go and the service was the worst I've ever experienced I wonder if the server was new, food was good as always but the service really was awful this time and I know I wasn't just making this up because the older black lady next to me said the same exact thing. The host and server were very nice but we had to leave. Signage is bad, it looks like it's closed. Micheladas are too spicy and the Jamaica and tamarindo were overly sweet and flavor not good. Won't be returning. read more

I was in town with my teenage son, for a tournament. We stopped here for dinner one night. The food was "good" (3.5/5 stars). Not the best I've ever had but definitely "good". The service was "good" (3.5/5). We weren't overwhelmed by his amazing service but still, he was "good". The margarita(s), however, were "amazing" (4.75/5)...probably the top 3 best margaritas I've ever had in my life. And these were the "house" margaritas...not a "special". If you're local, this place needs to make your local "list" of joints. If you're visiting, stop by and see for yourself. This place is solid. read more

I've eaten at the Tulsa location a ton of times and one of my go to meals has always been the el tequila steak. Out of all the times I've had it this was probably the best time so highly recommend! Everything on my plate was delicious! The service isn't my favorite at this location. I usually get a Michelada and I've never not had them give me the rest of the beer on the side. I guess they use smaller beers here so they don't bring you the remainder of the beer and they actually charged us extra to have more beer. I usually like my miche more mix heavy than beer and I had to request more beer because it just tasted like mix only. Overall the food is good and affordable! read more

First visit was with a large group of people that my husband works with. Limited menu for vegetarians but there are items to choose from. I ordered the create your own combo with 3 items: cheese quesadilla, cheese enchilada with queso, and a bean and cheese chimichanga. Our waiter (Brett) was very rude - he said my order (originally included a cheese chimichanga) was weird. I told him I don't eat meat so I asked what I should get in the chimichanga instead. He said beans, which did not show on the menu as an option, so I went with a bean chimichanga. After this interaction, and verifying my items, he put in my order with a beef enchilada instead of cheese. I didn't send it back because my husband would eat it, and the waiter scolded me for having someone else's rice and beans next to my plate. I didn't put it there. I was beyond done with him after that and refused to speak to him to correct my order. My husband's work colleagues eat here A LOT but I don't care to come back based on this waiter alone. The food I could eat was good, so I would only consider getting an order to go because I wouldn't have to order with a person. read more

My fiancé and I ate here yesterday. We both got the steak and cheese burritos and it was okay. We felt fine until a couple hours after leaving we've both been very sick and constantly in the bathroom. Personally do not recommend eating here. The place looks like it's closed down and hardly had any customers in there other than us. The seating are was very dirty and the walls on the side of the booth had dried food stuck to the walls.. went to use the restroom and it was VERY unsanitary as well as nats flying all over in there and overflowing trash. read more

The chips and salsa was good and I recommend the queso! They got our order wrong but they fixed it, quickly. They brought huge platefuls of rice and beans. Because of the order mix up, we ended up with 2 huge plates of rice and we didn't eat any it. The salsa is good. It has some heat, but not too much. The chips are thick and crisp. They don't have draft beer. We thought the bottles were overpriced so we just drank water. Been eating here for years, this has become the baseline Mexican restaurant (Tex mex) standard. If it is not as good as el tequila as far as food, service and ambiance then it's not good enough to go back. My family always enjoys eating here, my absolute favorite have always been the grilled fish tacos with a flour tortilla. Not always in the mood for them but they are good. The food was ok. They service was better. I ordered a chili rellano, cheese enchilada, and a tostado. I told them I wanted my tostada on a separate plate because it gets soggy and I like to pick mine up and eat it. So they took my plate away and slid the already soggy tostada on top if another plate so I ended up eating it with a knife and fork. Went here with friends after church. We were warmly greeted. Drinks were ordered. The waiter was helpful explaining the menu and what to expect from various choices. My friend chose the California burrito. The thing was as large as the state! I had the enchiladas Vallarta. (Shrimp and spinach with a tomatillo sauce) My wife chose the asada street tacos. Each item was presented to the table hot and timely. The food was flavorful and ample. I certainly would order the enchiladas Vallarta again. The food all around satisfied each member of the party. The bill was less than I anticipated making the meal a good value. This isn't the fanciest place but the food is good. The owner/manager came by and made sure we were satisfied and well cared for. I cannot remember the last time I dined here. Maybe December 2019. Anywhoo, it is one of our favorite Mexican places in Owasso. (And that's saying something.) But, my last visit was just OK. First, they're now serving a trio of dips with the complimentary chips. There was red salsa, a green salsa and a white dip. The red salsa was good but was not like their old offering. The green salsa had a bit of a sweetness to it. The white dip (not queso) did have a kick. I enjoyed them all. I ordered a lunch taco salad. I swear there was maybe two or three shreds of lettuce in the whole tortilla shell. My dining mate ordered the lunch chimichanga. I think she enjoyed hers. It came with a side of quac and sour cream. I have always loved their cheese enchiladas and tacos and this location stands up to my standard and my favorites! The large queso is way big and can feed an army of four and still have left overs.. the large guacamole is the same way so be prepared! I do wish they had a lime hanging around to add some more sour kick! But it was still damn good! My friend got the enchiladas rancheros which is his favorite and I think he almost licked the plate clean. They lost a star bc our friend didn't get her meal right away but promptly brought it out right afterwards and it was a bit warm inside. Like uncomfortably warm... and no that wasn't the margaritas making me warm, it was toasty in here when we walked in but the Rita's were really good! Get a pitcher or two! What a hidden gem! We stopped in after visiting the Rhema Christmas Lights. The food and service were both fantastic. I feel bad that we kept the workers past closing because we didn't pay attention to the time but they never let on it was that late, they kept asking if we wanted anything else. They were all very nice. It was the best service I've had in a long time. I will definitely stop here any time I'm in Broken Arrow. I haven't stopped craving their salsa since. The food was wrong, no refills on drinks. It was a large party (8 people independently paying). I asked for my food 3 different times, it never came, but was on the bill. Went thru 3 different servers during yhe "experience." I told them I was not paying for the drink since I never received my food and it should be compensated. The server said "well you drank it". It was a Pepsi. Ultimately, I didn't pay for it. The server would rather argue with me about my drink than comp it. It was $1.25, but I didn't see a reason I should run my card for a drink that was never refilled. Asked for red sauce and got some weird gravy on the tamale and enchilada.
