Food is good but on the greasy side. I always get a stomach ache after eating here which is unfortunate. And the location by I-40 and Grand does not serve alcohol which was kind of a disappointment the last time we went. read more

Real authentic Mexican food yum yum really nice and accommodating staff arrive early because people are lined up to get in they open at 830am I arrived at 815am and people were all ready waiting to eat that should tell you all you need to know and I was the only gringo and a major plus space to park a tractor./trailer across from the place I would give 6stars if possible read more

Definitely the best authentic Mexican restaurant in town. Great salsa that comes with the chips. You can make it even better by asking your waitress for cilantro and onions to add to it. Our waitress was very helpful. Can't wait to come back read more

Not impressed. They advertise homemade corn tortillas on the menu, but they are definitely not homemade and are cold and hard. Fajita asada lacked flavor and tasted old. We also ordered frozen margaritas and they told us they couldn't find the blender. Huh? Instead they brought out margaritas on the rocks made from a pre-made mix. I would skip this restaurant if you are used to eating good, homemade Mexican food. read more

Real Mexican food. Menu is very limited and a tad overpriced but the food is certainly delicious, it tastes just like my mom's cooking. Service is good and I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table regardless of how big our group was. Didn't give El Tejavan 5 stars because of the limited menu. read more

If you are vegan like me, skip this place. They tried to tell me that me only option on the menu was Veggie Fajitas...for $11.99 for lunch. Sorry, but that is the same price for the meat dish. No way. THEN, they accidentally added a bottled water charge to the bill for $1.75 and I only asked for tap. New computer system error, they said. So I got the guac appetizer for $5.99 and it's just a small ball of guac. I'd say two avocados at most. I can buy those at WalMart for $1 each. I guess that the extra is what you pay for the ambiance. read more

Puts the "meh" back in Mexican. Judging from the mixed reviews, I suggest the management look at who's cooking, when. We had lunch there today. Runny refried beans, watery salsa, stale chips. My cheese relleno had a definite fishy taste (old grease?). The beef enchilada was the best thing on the plate and it was just OK. The Missus said hers was good (gordita and cheese enchilada). Our waiter was very good and got a good tip: the cruddy food wasn't his fault. I won't be back. read more

I say "meh" because this was my first "real" mexican food experience and I was less than impressed. Service-nonexistent. Cheese enchiladas-nothing to write home about. Flan-I've had much better. Chips and salsa-boring. My husband's dish-bistec ranchero was pretty yummy. Don't know if I will go back or not... read more

Great Atmosphere! We ate here a while back- and I loved the live music and the way we felt like we were the only people there even though the room was full. The food was great, we had the ceviche appetizer and the chicken abodo? I think that's what it was called- it was a bit over cooked but still good. I can't complain any further because the Margarita- about the size of a child's head- was YUMMY! We will definitely go back!! read more

Good place to stop if you are traveling. Right off the hwy 40. Nice size portions and fairly priced.

WOW... what a great treat. Fresh made CORN tortillas i was in heaven and the carne asada was wonderful. Great Service and great prices and very clean restaurant ! I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a good meal and with real taste! and great customer service. read more

After reading the reviews on yelp and craving some good mexican food, we decided to check out el tejavan. While the margarita was huge and tasty and the al pastor was spicy, we found the experience to be lack luster. The guacamole was nothing to rave of and certainly not worth $6. The salsa had a kick, but tasted bottled. Decent food, decent service, food came out quickly. Overall this place was like any other Mexican restaurant. read more

They make their own tortillas! And you can tell-- pliant, fresh, speckled with the occasional black fleck of heat from the comal. My mouth is watering remembering the meal, and it was a week ago. The chunky guacamole was great, and the salsa packed a punch. Served in beakers, you pour it into your individual salsa dish and chow down. His enchiladas were yummy -- carnitas meat, tomatillo sauce, and topped with 2 over easy eggs. Really, what isn't improved by oozing, viscous egg yolks? I ordered even better. 3 carnitas tacos. Oh man. MAN. Ordering, I was bummed they wouldn't let me mix up the fillings. Thank god they didn't! I can't imagine anything being better than those carnitas. I went past my limit, and kept going. I was miserable for hours, but I don't regret a single bite. When you order a beer, it comes in a mug so huge that I think it's more like 2. Negra Modelo on tap! read more

Good food (authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex), family-type staffers, good prices. Hard to beat. A real restaurant. (In my little world, restaurants are either "real" or "fake". Real restaurants focus on providing good food, fake restaurants focus on a business formula.) read more

Bad service, i guess obviously because me and my husband weren't spanish, and the food was not worth the price. Then they need to update the prices listed on their website and what they actually have on the menu in the restaurant. I went in because of what i saw on yelp and that's why im posting this review. read more

worst mexican food ever!!!! my husband went there for lunch today. will never waste our $$$$& on eating there again. my husband ordered the enchilada plate. i ordered a beef enchilada with queso sauce, rice and charro beans. when our food came out, my enchilada was so hard i couldn't even cut it with a serrated knife. the meat in it was black! we got attention of waitress and she said they would redo my meal. after waiting a little while she brought my meal back out. this time the meat in the enchilada was cold as if it just came out if the refrigerator, the queso sauce was cold and the tortilla was tough as leather. the waitress came back and asked if it was better which i told her everything was cold. she didn't even say a word. needless to say the waitress along with the other restaurant staff could care less!!!!!!!! don't waste uour money here. there are better places to eat in amarillo read more

Really enjoyed the street tacos, just enough kick without overpowering the flavor of the meat. The chicken torta is delicious and the bread is fresh and soft. read more

Very authentic and fresh tasting. Excellent queso. Homemade tortillas are wonderful, and the fresh quac is a must. The food quality and taste made me feel like I was actually in Mexico. VERY noisy. read more

99 cent beer on tap for happy hour! Awesome after a long roadtrip. Carnegie Asada was great.

Well, I would have never found this place without Yelp. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is great, very basic good Mexican food. Nice service and yummy food just off the highway. Perfect if you're on a road trip ! read more

Been here a few times and love it! You could eat the fresh made corn tortillas alone and love it. Everything on the menu I've tried is good. Try the Barbacoa! read more

Can't find parking there !!! Sat on Bar " we were 7 of us all looking for salt & pepper!! Each of us had different servers.. but the staffing was nice !! Tacos " There the Meats "!! read more

Absolutely the best Mexican food in Amarillo! I had lunch there yesterday with my family and was pleased with the excellent service and nice ambiance. But most importantly was the delicious REAL Mexican food. I know this will sound odd, but I chose the Cabrito (goat) Soup (more like a hearty stew). This could be a whole meal by itself. My family loved their meal choices as well! read more

Excellent food! Best in town. Hot sauce is my all time favorite. This is a place people either love or hate. My favorite entrees are carne asada with flour tortillas, beef fajitas, marinated beef tacos with onions and cilantro, marinated beef burrito with onions and cilantro, and cheese enchiladas. The cheese they use is a white, mild and crumbly, very good sprinkled over any of the food. Tomatilla (?spelling) sauce is great on everything too. The chunky guacamole is fresh and tasty. The location near I-40 and Grand is equally good. They also serve breakfast, I recommend the entree with carne asada with the fried chips with red sauce and cheese, cannot recall the name. read more

What is not good here? I have yet to find it. We come in and order horchata. A family fave that is so good. Tacos with homemade corn tortillas. Those tortillas are amazing. My personal favorite is the spicy fajitas. Yes with corn tortillas. Enchiladas and chimichangas are great as well. You have to get the chunky guacamole. All is so good. If you want a place you simply can't go wrong with this is it. read more

Tacos were great. Queso was good. Everything was fresh and delicious. Very clean restaurant. Highly recommend it. Will be back!

Great good with nice atmosphere and a great waitress who was very attentive! Guacamole was awesome! Barbacoa tacos are perfect!

I'm in town on business and stopped in because I wanted some authentic street tacos and got everything I wanted and more! The flavor was wonderful and the spice from the salsa was almost too much for me to handle in a good way! I will absolutely be coming back before I leave town and will stop by in the future when I come back. The service was great but the food was absolutely amazing! read more

I tried their enchilada plate of course because I'm basic like that and it was delicious! My friend got their Ceviche and loved it(she wanted to get another bowl)! I can't wait to try more things here. Great customer service too! read more

Me and my husband have been coming for a few years and hands down the best Mexican restaurant!!! Always wonderful service and awesome food!! Highly recommend!! read more

Fantastic! Just driving through, saw the great Yelp reviews, and thought we'd stop in -- glad we did; it was superb.

Great "Real Mexican" food. A must try. Handmade tortillas and Huevos mexicana make for a good start to the day.

Loved the tacos. Very good Mexican food. Stopped here on the way home from New Mexico. Favorite was the pork, asada was good too.

Decent yummy food if you're traveling thru and need a quick stop, the atmosphere is also nice - it doesn't feel like a 'side of the road' place even though it is conveniently 5 min from I-40... read more

We stopped in on our way from Denver to Dallas and talk about a good find! Homemade corn tortillas were to die for. We'll be back!

The best authentic Mexican food in Amarillo. My kids live in Dallas and ask me to bring the homemade corn tortillas when I visit. I've never been disappointed in the food or the service or the cleanliness of the restaurant. We order the tomatillo sauce by the quart to take home with us. It's a must try! read more

We tried this place because we read such good things on yelp. It didn't disappoint either. The fajitas and beef enchiladas we're terrific. Our waiter was friendly and attentive as well. I will definitely come back. read more
