Who knew I could get real Mexican food in Amarillo. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised. The corn tortillas are freshly made there. The salsa had actual spices in it. It didn't taste like chunky ketchup like many other "Mexican" restaurants around town. My chicken green enchiladas were fantastic. The best I've had in a long time! I was with a party of 8. Since I am from out of town, my family and I decided to try out this restaurant out with the help from Yelp since it has 4 stars rating. I'm sad to say, I am very disappointed. Our food came out bland with no flavor. My husband(who is full Mexican) and kids ordered Carne Asada and I ordered Caldo De Rez. The Asada meats were still bland even when they added Salt and Limes. They were hard to cut and chew as well. The Mexican rice were undercooked. We ate 1 bite and that was it. My soup were bland and and hardly have any veggies and only 3 small pieces of meat. They charged us $11 for it. The rest room can only be use 1 person at the time. Just very disappointed. read more

If you are vegan like me, skip this place. They tried to tell me that me only option on the menu was Veggie Fajitas...for $11.99 for lunch. Sorry, but that is the same price for the meat dish. No way. THEN, they accidentally added a bottled water charge to the bill for $1.75 and I only asked for tap. New computer system error, they said. So I got the guac appetizer for $5.99 and it's just a small ball of guac. I'd say two avocados at most. I can buy those at WalMart for $1 each. Not impressed. They advertise homemade corn tortillas on the menu, but they are definitely not homemade and are cold and hard. Fajita asada lacked flavor and tasted old. We also ordered frozen margaritas and they told us they couldn't find the blender. Huh? Instead they brought out margaritas on the rocks made from a pre-made mix. I'm in town on business and stopped in because I wanted some authentic street tacos and got everything I wanted and more! The flavor was wonderful and the spice from the salsa was almost too much for me to handle in a good way! My cheese relleno had a definite fishy taste (old grease?). The beef enchilada was the best thing on the plate and it was just OK. The Missus said hers was good (gordita and cheese enchilada). Great Atmosphere! We ate here a while back- and I loved the live music and the way we felt like we were the only people there even though the room was full. The food was great, we had the ceviche appetizer and the chicken abodo? I think that's what it was called- it was a bit over cooked but still good. While the margarita was huge and tasty and the al pastor was spicy, we found the experience to be lack luster. The guacamole was nothing to rave of and certainly not worth $6. They make their own tortillas! And you can tell-- pliant, fresh, speckled with the occasional black fleck of heat from the comal. My mouth is watering remembering the meal, and it was a week ago. The chunky guacamole was great, and the salsa packed a punch. Served in beakers, you pour it into your individual salsa dish and chow down. His enchiladas were yummy -- carnitas meat, tomatillo sauce, and topped with 2 over easy eggs. Really, what isn't improved by oozing, viscous egg yolks? I ordered even better. 3 carnitas tacos. Oh man. MAN. Ordering, I was bummed they wouldn't let me mix up the fillings. Thank god they didn't! I can't imagine anything being better than those carnitas. I went past my limit, and kept going. Excellent food! Best in town. Hot sauce is my all time favorite. This is a place people either love or hate. My favorite entrees are carne asada with flour tortillas, beef fajitas, marinated beef tacos with onions and cilantro, marinated beef burrito with onions and cilantro, and cheese enchiladas. The cheese they use is a white, mild and crumbly, very good sprinkled over any of the food. Tomatilla (?spelling) sauce is great on everything too. The chunky guacamole is fresh and tasty. How have I been missing out on this place for breakfast? Well I do know. When you Google El Tejavan, it says on Google that they open at 10:30. I was about to go to my normal Thursday breakfast spot because of that. Last second I decided to check El Tejavan's actual website. When it said open at 8:00 am, I decided to give it a try. Although their breakfast menu is somewhat limited, the dish I decided on was very delicious. It had chile verde, 2 eggs, potatoes and beans. It was very delicious. Not to mention that they make their own corn tortillas there. Their salsa is very good as well. Of course anyone who has eaten there will tell you that. It was a lot of food for the price. I think I may have found my new Thursday spot for breakfast. I suggest everyone give them a try for breakfast. The only thing I could suggest is they should add some more options to their breakfast menu. Oh yeah, get that opening time on google changed. It may be hurting your business. Great "Real Mexican" food. A must try. Handmade tortillas and Huevos mexicana make for a good start to the day.

Loved the tacos. Very good Mexican food. Stopped here on the way home from New Mexico. Favorite was the pork, asada was good too.

It's all about the tacos here. Traditional Mexican fare - not tex-mex, so don't expect high spice. But, the food was good. I liked it more than my Husband did, but that may have been because the portions weren't Texas-Sized. They were adequate. But, the best part of that is so you can save room for the tres leches cake. It's one of the best I've tried anywhere. The coffee could be stronger, though. As I recall from trips to Mexico, the coffee was good and strong. We had such high expectations for this restaurant. My husband and I had traveled 11 hours from northeast Nebraska thinking we would have a great Mexican meal. First, the Men's restroom had no soap. The waitress wasn't helpful, no suggestions, and seemed impatient with our inquiries. My husbands water tasted like dishwater. The chips and salsa were a disappointment with the chips so bland and the salsa too spicy. I could handle that but not hubby. Our meals were... okay. Bland. Blah.
