My go to for all my Colombian goodies! This place has been here a while and has never disappointed. They offer baked goods, hot food, and all essentials from Colombia. My favorites from here are the empanadas (BEST from different Colombian restaurants Ive tried), arepa with cheese, and their pan de bono! Aside from quick service and delicious food, one of my favorite things about this place is that they have vegan options. It's hard to find something that matches the real thing, but their vegan empanadas definitely tastes like the real deal! My go to spot for Colombian empanadas in the neighborhood. The bakery itself is not huge but they do have some tables to enjoy your food. I come here for the empanadas, cheese bread, chicharron and Colombian sausage. The women who work there are usually pretty fast in getting you taken care of. My only gripe is that they have gotten stingy with the picante for the empanadas- only giving you a tiny container and making you pay for more. It's a small place but the ambience is so welcoming , the girls working there are fast and friendly. We got a few empanadas (turnovers) with meat and potatoes inside, a pan de bono (cheese bread ) and some fruit juices. The empanadas were hot and crunchy on the outside ,juicy and well salted on the inside. The spicy sauce was fresh and oooof spicy. They never fail to make good products and keep the quality up. The juices were fresh and yummy, just a bit on the tart side. Not sugary at all, so be cautious especially the passion fruit juice. They don't over do the ice either which I personally appreciate considering I don't want to pay for pure ice. The pan the bono was savory and fluffy. Good choice to visit this gem! read more

This little bakery has the side bonus of incorporating the Happy vegan bakery products within their store. I usually pick them up frozen and take them home and heat up in my air fryer. I really wanted to LOVE this place but I just couldn't because of the shitty service. I came here wanting to eat some good Colombian breakfast. I was actually excited because I was going to go to the regular Cuban bakery but decided to switch it up. When I got there the lady behind the counter seemed less than happy to see someone else walk through the door. She wasn't busy since everyone had already been taken care of and eating but she continued to talk to someone else in the back after she saw me walk in for a good 5 minutes. When she decided I might need service she asked me what I wanted. I told her 4 empanadas 2 chicken, 2 meat, and a tequeno. Needless to say the order was completely wrong. I was surprised when the total was so low since I had ordered a few things. I trusted her to put everything in the bag and give me my correct order but I was mistaken. When I left I opened the bag to find there were only 2 empanadas. She didn't even give me the delicious spicy sauce to go with it. I returned back inside to get some to find that 3 people had gotten there to order. Since she was "so kind" initially I thought it was a good idea not to ask her. I noticed some on top of the table that was used for customers eating there and I poured some in the bag. I was excited to try the meat and chicken to find not only did she give me two but they were both chicken. **sigh** The food itself was good. It was actually pretty delicious. If it wouldn't of been this place would of received ONE star. I would go back to this place and pray that this lady isn't there anymore. Next time maybe I'll order ahead and pick it up. Your pastries and breakfast meals are delicious but your customer service is sorely lacking. PLEASE double check your orders to ensure they are correct. And when a customer nicely points out their order is incorrect, an apology would be nice instead of huffing and puffing and berating other servers. Also, you should be wearing masks and gloves during this pandemic. Last week the person attending me was not wearing any. I came in because I was interested in their vegan menu, made an order on the phone so I wouldn't wait.. went to pick up 30 minutes after as I was told but then once I am there I wait an extra 20 minutes and they got the order wrong. But that's not really what bothered me because that could happen to anyone but the LACK OF RESPECT AND CUSTOMER service from their team was unbelievable. Talking back rude to me and my girlfriend. This is always my husband's first request for breakfast. There are two Colombian bakeries in the area, El Tejadito and Mekato. They are BOTH delicious, but even though Mekato is walking distance from my house we make the trip to 137 avenue since Mekato is literally double the price of El Tejadito. The bakery is located in the Checkers shopping center on Miller and 137 ave. In all honesty the parking stinks lol you have to park usually by the 711. When you enter this bakery it's like traveling to a little pueblo in Colombia. It is very tiny inside, there are 6 bar stools / 3 stations for you to sit and eat. Each table is set with 2 types of picante, pink sauce, and napkins. The walls are covered from floor to ceiling with different native trinkets, and Colombian goodies for sale. Here's a list of some items that I have tried over my many visits here: - empanada de pollo/carne (chicken/beef) Deep fried corn meal filled with meat or chicken. VERY different from a Cuban empanada. The meat ones are my absolute favorite. - arepa con huevo (egg) An arepa is another corn mass that's fried to light crisp. This one in particular has a fried egg in the middle! Pretty genius, but pretty plain. Be sure to add salt. - empanada de yuca These are balls of yuca filled with meat (same filling as the empanada) and deep fried. YES it's as delicious as it sounds. - arepa de choclo Two sweet corn patty fried to crisp perfection with a special type of white cheese in the middle - bonuelos Yuca breads that are lightly fried. - natilla Is a dessert made of corn starch, coconut, cream, and brown sugar. I'm sure there's other ingredients but it is tasty! These are to be paired with the bonuelos. - pan de Bono My weakness! These are baked I believe, but I could be wrong. They are small round breads with a warm cheese center. I could eat an entire batch of you let me! - arequipe Sugar crack. It's a Colombian dulce de leche (caramel) with thin white wafers. There are many other options available like blood sausages, chorizo, salted potatoes, chicharron, and much more! To drink I always get a cafe con leche. !!warning!! They do not add sugar AT all, so be sure you do. If you're not in a coffee mood try the Jugo de Lulu, I don't know what it translates to in English, but it is DELICIOUS! Or if you're in a pop mood, have a traditional Colombiana! I cannot complain about this bakery; whether it be the food or customer service. One thing I do wish they would change is the containers they keep the picante in. They are plastic and I know that plastic is not good for hot sauces it makes them go rancid fast. Glass will ferment the hot sauce make it even tastier! I can't wait to cheat treat myself to breakfast at El Tejadito again soon! read more

I love avenna, it's usually the reason why I go To Colombian bakeries. This location makes it extremely watery and sugary. I have stayed dissatisfied the few times I've ordered it. Their pan de bonos are amazing, people buy them in bulk! So that I recommend. Tiny bakery in the middle of an overcrowded shopping center... but boy is the food good. Coming here on a weekend you'll always get the freshest pastries because of how many people come here. I came here specifically for their "happy vegan bakers" menu that has a variety of great latin pastries in vegan form. They have a list inside the bakery but make sure to ask because there are also items not listed on the menu such as the papa rellenas. Also, make sure to try and call ahead if you're ordering off the vegan menu as those items and made fresh to order and you'll be waiting at least 15-20 minutes if you don't order ahead. Pretty much every vegan item is 2 dollars so you can sample lots of items for not too much money. read more

So I recently discovered that El Tejadito Bakery has vegan options. I purchased some items over the weekend and let me tell you I'm impressed. If you are raised in Miami you are well aware that pastelitos and empanadas are a staple food at any event, party, office etc... Vegans will not feel left out thank to these ladies. You have to order the items before hand. It took about 20 minutes for everything to be ready. I suggest to call ahead. The only negative thing I have to say is the price can be a bit much for some of the items. You will definitely be paying a little more than you would for the regular items. Being Colombian myself, I've tried empanadas and pan de bonos from several different places growing up, but this one is at the top of my list. I've only come for breakfast so I can't speak on their lunch specials, but I will tell you this: I've enjoyed their calentado (it's a Colombian dish where you mix up left over rice, beans and chicharron from the previous day and put an egg on top with the yolk nice and soft so it can pour all over the dish.
