Out in the middle of the desert in Moab, Utah is an excellent Mexican restaurant; El Tapatio. The restaurant is in the downtown area and easy to find. Drive or walk from downtown motels. Large parking lot. Big roomy restaurant with booths and tables. Nicely decorated with Mexican art. We particularly liked the ceramic overhead lights. We were seated quickly, and drink orders were filled in minutes while very good chips and salsa were brought to the table. The hostess even checked to make sure our drink order had been taken. My wife had the chicken enchiladas suiza. Wonderfully seasoned chicken rolled in corn tortillas with an excellent creamy sauce. This came as a huge heated plate with rice and good refried beans. I ordered pork carnitas, which arrived on a hot plate with a massive pile of perfectly cooked and seasoned pork, rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, and four warm tortillas. Nice to see four. These were some of the best carnitas I have eaten, and the serving was enough for two. Per my spouse, the margarita was excellent, and my Pepsi was refilled at least once. Service was ok as our waiter spent a little too much time talking with friends in the next booth, but it did not really affect our enjoyment of the meal. Great meal. Highly recommended. read more

Yummy when you're craving Americanized Mexican food. We tried the combo plates, one with ground beef and the other with shredded beef. Both had a great seasoning to it...a hair salty for me but adding sour cream took away the saltiness. Service is inconsistent. Great authentic tasting Mexican food! 1 star off for the prices seeming a bit high compared to what it is. However the service was outstanding and some of the food was delicious. The portion size is large enough to share. We got the ground beef Burrito that was smothered similar to a large enchilada -- was very good. Now at a first look the prices are absolutely ridiculous, i know this is a tourist spot but much the hotels lowers prices in the winter it is my opinion that places like this should as well. That being said the food is excellent, tasty and very good. The silver ware is super cheap, with prices like that it would be nice with something better. Awful. Absolutely terrible. Do not eat here. To start off the menu was massive. Literally my entire wing span of my arms, wide. The nicest thing I can say was that the food bland. And that is a stretch. We ordered guacamole and it was just an avocado in a bowl with half a lime and an entire jalapeno that was sliced in half. How are you supposed to eat that? First time here after being to Moab dozens of times. What a great find! The ambiance and decor felt colorful and fun like a restaurant in Cabo. We were seated immediately and chips and salsa were promptly brought to the table. The food (Tapatio Enchiladas) also came out quickly and on a very hot plate, which I loved, because it kept my food warm throughout my meal. The flavors were great, particularly the mole. Tender chicken and plenty of it. I couldn't finish my meal but my 20 year old son eagerly finished it for me as well as his order. Prices were reasonable and service was very friendly and responsive. We came here on the recommendation from a local tour guide, and we enjoyed it so much that we ordered takeout the following night. Great ambiance, and the restaurant is large so even without reservations we only had a short wait for a table. Chips and salsa were great- I would have liked it to be a bit spicier, but it was fresh had nice flavor so it was still tasty. They have an extensive menu, and both nights we ordered different dishes. The meats were nicely marinated and the portions are generous. They also have good options for kids. Next time we are in Moab we will definitely eat at El Tapatio again! read more

It came on a super hot plate (like too hot to touch) and it ended up overcooking the steak and making it too tough to eat. Took longer to get our drinks but not annoyingly long. I ordered the fajitas, which is always my go-to at a new place. Wife ordered Pollo la Cream. Others ordered stuff that I didn't pay attention to. The food came out timely and looked and smelled great. The Pollo la Cream was fantastic as were the fajitas. I love when they come out sizzling on a skillit. Large portions means leftovers for tomorrow. My family and I came here for dinner on our recent trip to Moab. We were seated right away despite it being the height of dinner hour on a Friday. The chips and salsa were good. They brought out this pickled cabbage slaw, which I thought was a little weird until I tried it. It was delicious! I ate the whole bowl. My husband and I each got a house margarita and they were pretty good. I got the chicken enchiladas and they were very good as well. My husband got the chicken crema burrito and loved it.
