Stars are mainly for service. 3 stars is being generous as far as the food goes. Very expensive for the portions given. Fajitas were very sad looking, a few ounces of chicken thighs (always had chicken breast fajitas elsewhere), mainly peppers and onions. Taco salad and tostadas were very underwhelming. Margarita was awful, definitely premade mix. Salsa was the best tasting thing we had. This was my second attempt and I think I'm done. Far better food at Juan Colorado or Rosie's Kitchen in Tualatin. read more

The view was blocked by the blinds, mainly because the sun was blinding. We got seated quickly in what I would guess was the gringo section and next to a large loud party of parents and kids. Most of the place was empty, not ideal for a romantic lunch. The menus were worn and extensive, page after page of dumbed down Mexican American favorites. We ordered a couple of dishes from our waiter who was trying awful hard to look enthusiastic. While we waited the chips and spicy salsa gave us hope this wouldn't be another quasi Mexican food experience. Our orders arrives refried beans and rice under a thick blanket of two colored cheeses, thick enough to smother a fire like a blanket. The flavor of the food was ok, the presentation lackluster and the portions filling. The taquitos were pretty darn good. The relleno we had been warned was no traditional, not so much a stuffed pepper but an omelette with ground beef, cheese and egg. Taste wise the relleno was ok, kinda surprising. If this was really the heart of Mexico, I think I've tasted better in Ohio. As a run of the mill attempt at Americanized Mexican food it was better than most of the disappointing chains around town. Going back? No. Rather pick up a greasy food truck taco than waste money on blah food. read more

Sadly, I do not think I will be doing business any longer with El Sol De Mexico. I ordered last night, thru DoorDash, and was sorely disappointed. The food was stone cold, but that's sometimes what you get when having delivery option - it did come promptly though. We ordered a Deluxe Tostado, one bag of chips and a side cheese enchilada. this totaled just over $43. Okay, not cheap, but I was expecting to receive what we ordered. The tostado was fine but the side cheese enchilada did not have any rice or beans like the menu specifies- just a small cheese enchilada. Other disappointments with this order: the tostado is smaller than it use to be and they've always been very generous with salsa and chips. No salsa. No extra chips. Restaurant businesses struggle, but if one is going to charge higher prices, please DO NOT diminish your standards. read more

TL;DR: Fine place to stop for quick lunch! Exactly as it says above, stopped here for a quick lunch on Saturday. The service was good- friendly and all COVID appropriate. We ordered nachos and a burrito. We got complimentary chips and salsa in like, a blink. They give you a HUGE bowl of chips! I could have made that my meal alone! The food came out just as fast, we ordered and then BAM- our food was ready! It was all yummy. Nothing outstanding but certainly nothing to complain about. I really like this place. I crave it when I haven't been here for awhile. El sol is close to my work and quick getting your order during lunchtime. They always are nice and there to greet you and bring chips and salsa to the table (and the salsa is delicious) I have never ordered anything but the chicken chimichanga lunch with rice and beans but everyone else's food always looks good. There is always great customer service here everyone is very friendly. So if you are out in Tualatin, meander on over and have yourself some delish mexican food. read more

Me and my sister decided to try this place as we are new to the area and the recent reviews were good. The staff was friendly and attentive, the chips were warm and the salsa was tasty. The problem was after our food came. The food was bland !! I was especially disappointed in my tamale, when it came out i was taken back by how skinny it was. I kept calling it the pencil tamale. It was spicy but really lacked flavor. I was also disappointed with the enchilada sauce. The only thing that I could taste was the cheese that was on it. While the chicken was moist, it tasted like it was cooked in only bullion, it was very salty. The rice was also bland, the beans were good though and so was the guacamole and the drinks. I was really hoping to find a great Mexican place . I almost forgot, the staff was talking crap in the kitchen in spanish. HELLO, I understand what was said and it wasn't nice! read more

We had our Tualatin location cater our daughter's wedding reception for over 100 people-it was delicious! Manuel and everyone were easy to work with and all went smoothly and as planned. If I could give it a zero I would , the service was awful I was eating and the server grabbed the plate as I was grabbing food off of it and asked if I was finished , not only me but as to everyone else on the table. The straws were thrown on to the table as well not placed. the prices at first seemed reasonable as soon as I saw my food I understood why, for regular nachos it's 8.95 but with guacamole it's a dollar more and it was very bland. Don't get me wrong I've never had to write a review before but the experience wasn't delightful. I wouldn't go back. read more

The manager is excellent - warmly greeting you at the door The staff is quick - warm chips and water served immediately The food is good The plates are HOT But for me, it was a nice meal if you're in the area, but not worth the drive for a special trip. My nits are that the chips and salsa were just OK. Maybe this is a good thing since I didn't have to restrain myself from eating the whole basket. They have eight lunch 'deals' for around $6.25 (great, right?), but if you want sour cream or guacamole (and who doesn't?), they charge you $1 extra. For EACH. My regular Mexican places don't do this. My chimichanga with chicken was prepared well but I was still chewing when they took my plate. Fast service is appreciated, especially if you just want a quick lunch, but this was a little too quick. read more

Welcome amigos! Time for another review! I've been here several times for lunch (I work down the street). Not great, but a solid good. I've never been let down. You'll feel right at home with their cheesy decor, and friendly service. The manager (possibly the own) has GREAT customer service. He's friendly, always stops by the tables, loves to talk, and most importantly... He has a SWEET handle bar mustache! Damn I wish I had his facial hair. As the other reviews claim, this place is fast. How they get their food out so fast boggles my mind. I order my food, take a drink of my pepsi, dip my chip into the salsa, and before I get the chip into my mouth the waiter is there telling my not to touch the plate because its hot. My adult daughter and I get together for lunch every few weeks. We picked this place due to the great Yelp reviews. We arrived at noon and the place was surprisingly not busy at all, though at the same time the staff seemed disinterested in us and rushed through the process. We ordered the same meal (beef and chicken enchiladas). I thought the beef was OK but the chicken was dry. I also noticed a funny aftertaste toward the end of the meal, like rancid oil. Late that night I got sick... and I called my daughter who had also gotten sick. So, bad and rushed service, so-so food, and we both got ill. read more

Their menu says they are very careful about vegetarian dishes. Well, I ordered from the vegetarian menu, and they served me meat. This is an automatic failure. Okay, so if anybody I work with even *suggests* Mexican for lunch, I will most surely come along. When they recommended "the place that has good chips and salsa," of course my interest piqued. El Sol de Mexico really isn't much different than a lot of Tex-Mex places; it definitely has the Azteca vibe. And the LOUD vibe. Not so much the music, but the host. "HOLA AMIGOS," he practically yelled, scarring my eardrums. "HOW MANY TODAY?" "Cinco," I reply. He continued to mumble something in Spanish. I wasn't really listening. But I did notice that he consistently yelled at the patrons in Spanish. Whether they knew what it meant...well, that's still a mystery. Next! Chips and salsa. Like Jen mentioned, nothing super special. I doubt the chips were homemade, but they were hot, and they had what looked like a cornmeal texture to it. The salsa, though? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttt!!! It was way spicier than I thought it would be. By the time our meals came (lunch specials were $6.50), my mouth was already on fire. The food was good, although it took a while to eat because everything was SO damn hot. So the combination of the spicy salsa with the SUPER [temperature] hot food literally made me start crying. Not necessarily tears of happiness, either. Ouch! Once it finally cooled down (a solid 10-15 minutes), I did actually enjoy the flavors of my deliciously greasy beans, rice, and chicken enchilada. And lots of gooey cheese. If you're looking for authenticity, do NOT come here. That said, if you love the cheesy Tex-Mex goodness, you'll love this stuff. Service was quick, and fine. I got lots of refills of my water glass. One thing I found really weird, though, was that as soon as one of the FIVE in my party finished, someone immediately grabbed their plate. I mean, fine, but it made me feel like they were pushing us out, and it wasn't even busy. In any case, I'll keep this place in mind if we do Mexican at work again. I definitely liked it a LOT more than Juan Colorado, the other Mexi joint my coworkers frequent, so that's a plus. Would I go out of my way to come here if I'm in Portland? Nope. I was greeted and seated immediately, and the server was attentive. I ordered my lunch, and it was ready and on my table so promptly that I was pleasantly surprised. Burritos, enchiladas, tacos...all very tasty! I'm told this restaurant has been in business at this location for many years. I live in the area and I've driven past it many times, but it was recommended by a reliable source. With time to pause for linch (and a ravenous appetite), I stopped in this afternoon, and I'm glad I did. Too often we miss what's very near our doorstep. I was very pleased with my lunch and there's no doubt that I'll soon return. Would I drive a great distance to eat here? No, probably not...because I have a few "favorites" in other parts of town, but I am glad this is so conveniently located near my home and I can recommend it to others. read more

I always enjoy coming here. It is by my husband's job and -if you can believe it- we are able to get in and out of there without him getting in trouble for coming back late from his skimpy 30 min. lunch break he is allotted. The service is prompt, friendly, and warm. You get chips and water quickly and their prices are pretty reasonable. They even serve booze! I have not tried any of their alcoholic drinks so I can't speak to that, but their food is good. To me Mexican food is generally Mexican food and their Mexican food is good, not super knock-your--socks-off or anything but it does hit the spot. and will fill you up. OK, I am still a fan but they have new owners. The salsa is different, the chips are lower quality and they have a guy with a guitar who stands 14 inches form you singing while you try to eat. We would go here because the chips and salsa were great, the food was fast (impossibly fast), and it was easy. My wife couldn't eat the whole time the guitarist was there., it made her so nervous and uncomfortable. We don't go to dinner to be interrupted while we eat. I politely asked about the salsa and chips on our last visit an expressed that we were unhappy with the change. We will still eat here but no where near as often. read more

Disclaimer - I may have been spoiled during my brief stink in Los Angeles by endless authentic Mexican restaurants. So, it could be just me, but El Sol De Mexico - the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I tried an enchilada, burrito, taco - I didn't like any of it. It reminded me of Taco Bell. I would never go back. I have since tried another Mexican restaurant in Tualatin, La Isla Bonita, and felt the enchilada, rice and beans were very good. That's another review though... read more

This is a great place for a quick lunch or to take the family for a delicious meal! You are always greeted at the door with, "Hola Amigos!" The service is great and the food is delicious. The Seafood Burrito is huge, stuffed full of shrimp. The Chicken Enchiladas are amazing with homemade Enchilada sauce. I also get the Chili Verde on a regular basis and have not been disappointed. It is right off I-5 in Tualatin so it's easily accessible from Tigard, Lake Oswego and othe surrounding areas and well worth the drive! I almost forgot...they cater too! We have had them provide food for two parties and we were very pleased. They provided more than enough food! read more

I have gone to this place since I was a kid. It is good food a fast. The problem is when you order take out. When you eat at the restaurant you can have as many salsa refills as you need but for take out you get one little container of about 2-3 ounces per meal or they charge you. I think I might have to find a different place to go now. Sad since you have been one of my favorite places for about 15-20 years. read more

The salsa has good flavor, they put real hot, hot sauce on the table. My only feedback to the restaurant would be they gave us the check without asking us if we wanted dessert.
