I was excited to see a restaurant going into this little spot in Old Town Sherwood. We have been here several times and all the food we have tried so far has been good. It's nice that they have outside seating because it is small inside. There was only one time we had to wait extremely long for our food but again, this is a small place so I'm surprised they keep up with the crowds. Located on a corner with lovely landscaping sits a great little cafe. With exterior dining for 45 & interior dining for about 14 or so, with very friendly staff. The Mrs & I chose to enjoy the beautiful weather & sat outside to enjoy our meal of tacos & chimichanga. I got the Al Pastor tacos. Three smokey, sweet roast pork tacos that had broiled pineapples on top. A combination that I found refreshing & wonderful. They have been open a week so far and we have been here twice already. Food is pretty good. We had dinner here during the Sherwood Wine Walk and it hit the spot before tasting more wine. The menu is straight forward and the pricing is very reasonable and it was filling. The outdoor seating was perfect for a sunny day and inside is yellow and bright with lots of colorful decor. You order at the counter, pay, and then get your food sent to your table but you have to bus yourself. They were busy but the staff were all friendly and the food came fast. The chips were thin and crispy, the perfect vessel for the flavorful salsa and guac (+$5). I got the Al Pastor burrito and my friend got the Al Pastor and Chicken tacos. And bonus she's gluten free and said that they had the best corn tortillas she's had. It was very soft and hot dry and crumbly. We both loved the pineapple with the Al Pastor. I wanted to love this place because it's so cute outside, but the food was just OK. I ordered the tacos and they were pretty good. My husband had the burrito, and he did not love it. To be fair, he does tend to prefer a "wet" burrito, so he wanted to dump salsa on top of it... But because it was served in a basket, he struggled... this is more of a "him" problem than any fault of the restaurant and had I been thinking I would have just asked for a plate... but apparently I my cares taking game was lacking that night. Chips and Salsa cost extra and I didn't care for the salsa (too liquidity for my preference). To summarize, it's not the best Mexican food I've ever had and it's not the worst Mexican food I have ever had... I will probably give it another shot because I always try something twice before writing them off, but for me this meal was just ok. R read more

We love to come here and we go often. They are reasonably priced and the people are very friendly. The food comes quickly- my only real complaint is half the time the food isn't very hot, especially the beans. If they could only get that addressed, they'd be beyond great! We love the tacos, chips w/ cheese and jalapenos and enchiladas. The margaritas are delicious too! I keep wanting to try other things but can't seem to stray from the enchiladas with green sauce! Someday I will do it! I like how they expanded their indoor seating too but maybe a bit more subdued lighting for a bit better ambiance in that side area? Had a great dine in experience a while ago and tonight was not so great for take out. Order instructions say nothing about a separate pick up area, so my wife waited in line for 15 minutes to be told "oh it's over there". Please update instructions for your customers or add obvious signage. Food was good overall, but the add ons are a major rip off. $2 for a couple tbsp of sauce for a wet burrito is a bit excessive. Not nearly as excessive as the guacamole though- this is almost purely the cause for low rating. In store, the extras options are "chips and salsa" $3 or "chips and guacamole" $5 (reasonable mark up for guac). We ordered this when we dined in and received guacamole AND chips. Online the extra options are "chips and salsa" $3 or "guacamole" $5- should be the same exact offerings as in the restaurant so I assume the guacamole option just had a typo forgetting to list chips. My wife goes to the counter for said chips we didn't receive, only to be told it is just guac. No chips included and "no exceptions" per the cashier. The container is maybe half an avocado. $5. Guacamole and spoon isn't quite the same vibe Food is solid. Stay away from the extras. read more

The taquitos were delicious. The only thing I will say they definitely pick and choose who they give good service to. It's a very small cafe. Only about 1 table and some outdoor seating. I would definitely sit outside or order Togo. 3 stars for the service. I typically tip after I get service and they only give good service if you tip beforehand (just from my observation). Meh... I often criticize new restaurants in Sherwood which don't bring anything new to Sherwood; this is one such new restaurant. Sherwood has several "Mexican" restaurants already. We don't need more tacos and burritos. And to bill this as "authentic" is totally ridiculous. But, it is only a few blocks from my home, so if it is good, I'd like it anyway. I was hopeful. As you enter Araceli's Cocina, you will notice signs telling you to "order at the counter." Once you order and take a seat, you will notice more signs instructing you to "bus up after yourself." But, before you get to those signs, the point-of-sale system is going to ask you for an 18 or 20% tip. Tip!?! What for? A tip is for service! And a 20% tip is for outstanding service. Since I did most of the service, I'll tip myself, thank you. 20%?!? Outrage of them to even ask. I've eaten here three times now. I've had beef, chicken, and pork in tacos and burritos. And all of it was dry, bland, and tough. All of it has been disappointing. The salsas are good, but not great. The food is just boring and lack-luster. "Authentic" Mexican food is not bland. And the food here is bland. And to bland, dry and tough and this place is a disappointment. On to practical notes: This restaurant is in downtown Sherwood, what is often called "Old Town," which is convenient to... well... nothing; you really have to be all the way into Sherwood to get here. WThe location has no parking at all. However, there is street parking and even one lot within a couple of blocks. They have just a few inside tables (the largest accommodates four, maybe five) and then some picnic tables outside which are delightful, weather permitting. Handicapped access is minimal. The menu has a limited vegetarian offering. If you're some sort of hard-core vegetarian/vegan, you'll find it hard to believe that such a small kitchen can avoid all cross-contamination. This place is overall family-friendly, but lacks special facilities for children. In conclusion, the food here just isn't very good. It's not worth the trip. read more

I found the food really good. I noticed somebody said the food was not very flavorful however, there's plenty of salsas and other spices to add to your food to make it very flavorful. Literally sitting and eating at this amazing little restaurant. I've been hoping that we would get another restaurant in Old Town Sherwood to add to the variety available and this one just hit the spot. What a gem! We walked in shortly before they closed and were promptly greeted and was informed in a very courteous manner that they would be closing in about 10 minutes but would be happy to take our order. We ordered a selection of tacos and a couple of beers and were served our food within a few mins. We sat in the covered patio under a ceiling fan and enjoyed the genteel breeze, picturesque garden and the quiet of wonderful old Town Sherwood. The food was DEEE-LICIOUS. I have a habit of always ordering a traditional item from a restaurant so I have a point of comparison against my favorites. For example I will always order lasagna at an Italian restaurant or eggplant and meat at a Thai restaurant. Carne asada tacos is my go to at a Mexican Restraint. To say I have had my share of asada tacos is an understatement. I eat them pretty much weekly and having lived in Los Angeles for 30 years, I can tell you I have had a variety. This was one of the best I've eaten. The meat was spiced just right, was soft and juicy and the soft tacos were soft and supple. My wife had sweet potato veggie tacos and shredded beef tacos and she loved them as well. The service was impeccable. It's family owned and you can tell they care. We had a long chat with one of the owners and he was so genuine. Araceli's Cocina is a wonderful and welcome addition to our little old town. For anyone who reads "Chuck's" review - literally the only one who doesn't think this place adds up - all I can say is come taste and see for yourself. Trust the other reviews and ignore the one that's clearly anti-old town Sherwood. And contrary to his assertion, the restaurant is clearly ADA compliant.
