Came early on a Tuesday to pick up lunch. They were able to put my order together super quick and I was out the door! I decided to get the taco salad with carne asada. It was yummy, but nothing super special. I also tried both the mild and hot sauce. The mild was good, but the hot sauce was very heavy on spices, which I did not prefer. Lowkey, casual Mexican spot with unbeatable prices! We tried their Lengua Burrito and eventhough it wasn't the biggest burrito ever, at the price of less than $10, it's such a steal! The lengua meat inside was also super tender. You can tell that they made everything to order cause the ingredients were all fresh and warm. Sadly, a bit undersalted but nothing some spicy salsas can't fix! We also some Al Pastor Taco and the meat had really nice texture despite being a bit bland again. Stopped in for lunch with My wife after a friend suggestion to try this place for the tacos. We each ordered three tacos -- chicken, steak and carnitas for my wife and I subbed the chicken for the fish on my order. Service was very pleasant and the place was full with locals. But to be honest...the meats could have used more flavor. The tacos were not bad by any means...but just sort of bland. Not sure if was lack of seasoning or sauces but the meal for both of us was just meh. but finding great Mexican food in Portland is not an easy task. read more

I've stopped in here a few times over the years. This place has been here forever. Right on the main drag heading into North Plains but the building is easily missed if you aren't looking for it. Circa 1950's non-descript building with muted signage. Suits me as I hate crowded diners. They have a great breakfast burrito. It's massive and very tasty. Prices are decent and the food here is as Mexican as it gets. A tad hot for this anglo but I survive. Nice folks. I assume it's a family business. Friendly, efficient and the place is immaculately clean. There's a Taco Bell right across the street. I wonder how they stay in business with the King as competition. Mostly locals inside any time I've been there. Latinos mostly. If you are craving truly authentic Mexican fare this place will suit you well. read more

Having come from Southern California (specifically lived a while near East Los Angeles,) I got spoiled with genuine tortillerias - this is probably your next best thing especially off 26 in middle of nowhere. Called a bit before 2 pm on a Wednesday for a king burrito (no beans, no rice) to go - within 15 min it was ready for pickup, and I was back on the road. Service was friendly and welcoming. The lady running the cash register has such a humble heart and so accommodating. The Asada burrito had meat from top to bottom. The meat was not dry but tender and juicy. Every bite had the tender meat. Also, the deep fried jalapeño was free?!?! The homemade chips were great The kids loved the side of rice. The not so good: I grew up in TX and was excited by the good reviews, but overall this is not good Mexican food. I have come many times due to the proximity so it's not just a one off. Called-in an order a little before 1:00 on a Tuesday (carne asada burrito for me, cheeseburger and fries for the kiddos), and it was ready in 15 minutes like the person said. Their carne asada burrito is comparable in flavor to California's best. *Other best carne asada burrito in Portland is from Tienda Santa Cruz (St. John's) IMO. There are a couple of items here I absolutely love, the Al pastor tacos and king nachos with shredded beef are my regular orders. Their avocado sauce and salsas are really good and fresh, be careful of the red as its pretty spicy! Tortillas are not homemade but other than that everything is fresh and delicious every time. The cashier was really good very good customer service. The only thing that really bothered me and we only stayed because we were starving as there was a lot of flies. King Torta has been in North Plains forever, there is a reason a small local owned business has been able to sustain the ups and downs of the economy over the years, Obviously they are doing something right. I personally have been going here for YEARS, and I can attest to their excellent customer service, quality fresh food, and overall friendliness ( Which is hard to come by these days). They have excellent breakfast burritos, tortas, burritos, tacos ETC... I really have a hard time understanding some peoples complaints about the building, yes it is not the prettiest, rather they focus on providing quality food and service and exceptional prices, if the building was new well guess what your paying $12+ for a product that now costs nearly half that. If the appearance of the restaurant is important to you go across the street to the other place that just moved into town and charges $12-$14 for much small portions, far less quality food, and a menu that lacks in options. To the lady that is complaining about the food here and other similar restaurants not being as good as the food she grew up around in Texas well.... Guess what lady were not in Texas and there is no need to bash multiple places due to your dislike of something thats different then what your used to. We were literally just driving by and thought we'd stop and give this a try. I had a King Torta and it as delicious. The soft on the inside, crispy on the outside bread with pork carnitas as excellent. It's a small setting, most people coming in were ordering to go, but since we live no where close, we sat.
