Beware of Price Gauging. recently went to watch the Mexico vs England match. i ordered a guava margarita from the menu they provided me. mind you the menu did not display prices. should have been my warning not to order. well let me tell you they charge $22 for a margarita!! the tequila was not top shelve nor did i request it. i can understand them charging more due the event, but $22 is excessive. who do they think they are, vegas! i researched other clubs in the Portland area and cost for said margarita range from $10-15. way to take advantage of the situation guys. i will say the waitress was very nice, speedy and always checked on us. read more

I am just not sure how to rate Casa Lola... My wife called at 10 to ask if they were open yesterday, (Sunday) as they were scheduled to serve brunch. She was told they open at noon?? Yet their website states the following: Sunday: 10:00 AM-9:00 PM I do see they have 4 stars overall. I gave it 5 stars a year and a half ago. It definitely doesn't warrant 5 stars. The scheduled hours in the front window area is missing half of the numbers. The threshold is filthy. The knife in my roll-up had something crusted on it. And we were told very nicely, by our server Johana, that she hoped the Chef would come back, as he had left earlier. Whew...he came in after we were there about 10 minutes. We arrived at 4:00. And the last irritant...the music sound level. I wanted to ask Johana to turn it down, but just put it off. We were told at 10:00 Casa Lola becomes a night club...fine, but at 4:00 on a Sunday. Johana was terrific and the food was good. My Al Pastor Tacos were okay. Not great, but not bad. Black beans and rice accompanied all of the dishes and they also were good...not great. My wife, being a vegetarian, had the Enchilada's stuffed with carrots and potatoes. She loved the sauce, even though it had queso fresco on top, as she had requested none be served. Again, Service 5 stars, Food 4 stars, Misc. 0 stars It will be interesting to see if the restaurant is open one year from now. read more

Oregon laws protect individuals from being treated differently because of their gender identity or sex. Other than common overpriced drinks, the men's restroom is a nightmare. The club BARELY OPENED and the floor was flooded with piss. No joke I had to buck my hips forward in order to reach the urinal. And the one single soap dispenser was empty? They send security to poke their head in but not a janitor to clean up? The whole dance floor was stained with piss. And all the men with piss on their hands passing drinks... At least invest in better sound equipment. Music quality is terrible. Louder doesn't mean better. Disappointed this is my towns club. Going back to portland. read more

The music was good. So was the service for the most part. Except when bartenders added their own 20% tip and not give me the option to pick my own tip. I don't mind tipping I've just never experienced something like that. I didn't see a sign anywhere explaining that it was mandatory service fee or something and nobody explained it to us beforehand. My second time visiting this chain and first time this location hidden in a small mall in Cornelius. A free churros coupons that arrived by mail so I had to go! The environment is just wonderful: Modern, clean, well illuminated and full of Mexican folklore. The decor gives one expectations of good service and elevated cuisine and the prices confirm so. Fortunately, the menu is authentic Mexican and nothing fusion. The least Mexican dish on the menu is the breakfast burrito and we could spend days debating about it, for which I would demand we do it over good tequila and I don't promise any solid arguments from my side. - THE CHIPS SITUATION Mexicans are spoiled when it comes to food. Casa Lola Kitchen offers FRESH pico de gallo and salsa to go with FRESH, CRUNCHY CHIPS. I would have loved to have refried beans and more salsas like in other restaurants nearby, but admittedly I had to ask my waiter to take them away because I couldn't stop eating them... Even after I ran out of pico de gallo! - CARNITAS The entrees menu highlights Carnitas amongst other 3 dishes. Although I had in my mind carnitas as regular dry meat that I could make tacos off with either corn or flour tortillas, the meat is served soggy in a bowl, keeping its moist and warmth. The $20 dish comes with a 4 corn tortillas, a side of fresh avocado, a side of pico de gallo and a side of chipotle salsa. The chipotle salsa was not too strong nor mild nor spicy, just enough to change the meat's flavor profile. - TRES LECHES Really tasty yet a variation of what I know. The dough is a bit drier but it allows one to pour the milks' sauce on top and make each byte as dry or damp as desired. Very interesting yet it limits you if you want the super-wet good-luck-if-it-doesn'-t-fall-off-the-spoon tres leches. - SERVICE THE BEST! Someone brought water and chips right away. Food arrived about 7 minutes after I ordered, expedient! Carlos, the owner, stopped by a few times to ask about the quality of the food and offer the $38 Rib-Eye that honestly caught my attention but I wouldn't dare to afford without celebrating a special occasion. Just scrolling innocently through feeds, a neighbor on a local social networking site raved about "the best new Mexican food in Cornelius!". So, of course, living 5 miles away and always looking for great south of the border eats, Wife N and I decided to try it for dinner. Friday night, 7:00pm. We arrived to a reasonably empty house--there were a few occupied tables but it felt quiet (to me) for a Friday night. TV's arrayed around the place silently played a variety of shows from sports to old black and white TV sitcoms. They seemed to be around 50% capacity the entire time we were there; not dead, but also zero problems getting an instant table at the peak of the week. We were seated and Pico de Gallo and fresh-made chips were set before us. We perused the margarita menu and--wow, they've got some inventive ones here. Wife N had the Casa Lola, basically their house marg, and I had a spicy one, I think passionfruit with a chili rim. Served in 10-ounce highball-style glasses with a chili rim (on mine), both were over-the-top fabulous margaritas. This is not your chain swill. These guys can shake a heavenly margarita. Note to self to return to work my way, at very least, through the margarita menu. We ordered a side of tableside-prepared guacamole, and started with an appetizer of their Ceviche. Guac was excellent, flavored with lime juice, onions, a little pico, salt, and jalapenos (which we left on the side as Wife N is spice-averse). Ceviche was different from many others we've had, but very good nonetheless. Diced mahi mahi, tomatoes, avocado, onions and cilantro, it was more dialed-back and less acidic than the typical Peruvian ceviches (whose leche de tigre is often quite citrusy and vibrant) but it was flavorful nonetheless. For dinner I ordered their fish tacos with diced mango, tomato and cabbage, while Wife N had their steak tacos. Both came with a spicy-but-can't-stop-adding-more Habanero sauce that just brought everything together. Those were heavenly tacos. The fish was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The beef had just fire in the flavor. Clearly it spent some time being licked by flames before making it into the taco. Yum! It's clear this is not "your cheap local Mexican joint." If $8.00 burrito platters with enough piled on them that it's also tomorrow's dinner are your thing (nothing wrong with them) you'll probably want to move right along--there won't be much for your $8.00 budget here. If, however, you're looking to make that next step up into the bit-more-elevated style of Mexican food, Casa Lola is your place. Our two-person dinner of an app, two margaritas, guacamole, two entrees and a flan (I hadn't mentioned it, it was lovely, and their caramel is some of the best I've had) set us back about $90. This isn't Taco Bell. Go there with an open wallet, and you'll enjoy everything you order. read more

Had a bad experience with one of the bartenders. Seems like she was new there didn't know what she was doing. Plus she was trying to get at my boyfriend and was giving us attitude. What kind of service is that. Not the first time it has happened my friend Cindy said she had the same problem with the bartender. Trying to hook up with her mans. First time here and I'll be going back again soon! Sat next to the fireplace which was super cozy. This cute place has a cozy sports bar kinda feel to it. Husband order a beer and I ordered a passion fruit margarita- it was great! The menu was smaller than you'd expect to see at most Mexican restaurants around but after we got our food we realized this was because it's like elevated Mexican food. When I asked our waitress about it she said it's authentic to Mexico City instead of usual Tex Mex you find. I was super impressed with my dinner. It was a stuffed chicken breast with a pepper sauce over it and white rice. I thought the flavors were wonderful. I will be going back and eating there again. Our waitress was super attentive and knowledgeable. Oh yes, I almost forgot we ordered the Tres Leches as dessert and it was fantastic, they had just made it from scratch so it was so fresh! read more

Their business has gone downhill over the years and yet the prices kept going up and up and up. I'm not sure how many times we showed up during posted business hours and yet they were closed. The hours constantly changed but they never updated their website and their social media pages to reflect those changes so not sure how many times we tried only to find them closed. And now, finally, we showed up for a meal the other day and there was simply a sign on the door saying basically that they are no longer a restaurant but a Friday and Saturday night party/bar venue. The sign said you can visit their restaurant in Beaverton but the food at that one is gross (tried it a few times...no thanks!). We miss our sweet waitresses that used to work there (Eddy, for one!!) and the great food that used to be reasonably priced. Ah well, another one bites the dust. We went here last week instead of hitting our regular spot. I wanted to support a local business and was hopeful that Casa Lola would be authentic Mexican food. We're born and raised Southern California folks so we know Mexican. We were VERY sadly disappointed. I got the flank steak with poblano pepper and my wife got carne asada tacos. Both were horribly bland. The drinks were wonderful but very high priced. We spent over $150 for 3 people in total and it will be my last time here for sure. We have had the best fresh food and drinks! The Lola bowl was amazing as well as the mole enchiladas . Hand made cocktails with a huge variety of liquors to choose from and if you like top shelf liquor they have it! The staff has always been so amazingly friendly and on top of everything we wanted. Don't confuse this place with your local American/Mexican restaurant you find everywhere. You will not find deep fried, and huge plates here. Drinks were delicious, chips were excellent. Salsa was more pico de gallo style, my wife loved it, I'm not a huge fan. She took our orders, and we waited. And waited. And waited. Then my wife's food came. And I waited. And waited. I told my wife she needed to eat because her food was going to get cold waiting for mine. She waited for mine and we ate. The food was good. Even though mine came out after hers, the cream sauce for my chicken was lukewarm, and the queso in my chicken wasn't even melted. Flavors were pretty good. Tortillas came out hot and fresh. We really did not have the experience everyone else seemed to have. We came in early lunch time on a Sunday. Chips and salsa were excellent. We order some basic tacos becuase that was what we were in the mood for. The asada was unseasoned- not underseasoned, but completely lacking in any flavor at all. We actually requested salt for the table. A sliver of lime and radish were toothpicked to the outside- a sliver of lime so small it was impossible to use and a tiny raw radish. The corn tortillas were chewy and odd. Perhaps an effort had been made to heat them with some oil? That's the only way I can describe them, but they were difficult to chew and seemed almost stale. The beans were whole black beans, and they were nicely seasoned. The rice was plain white rice, seems unusual for Mexican rice. Prices were high for what we got. Elevated authentic Mexican food is the main thing that comes to mind. We finished everything they brought us including an amazing dessert. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Location was clean with pleasant decor. My wife and I really enjoyed the music they had playing. Speaking with the staff, I got a family business vibe which I appreciate vs the chain I just work here vibe. Girls lunch we were heading to Mazatlan but they were closed so we decided to try this new place. Service was welcoming and polite. Chips and salsa we mediocre, salsa was Pico de gallo and sort of bland. The food menu was somewhat annoying to read...for instance I wanted fajitas you had to read each description to figure out what you wanted. The server was helpful explaining - I did get the Alambres (fajitas) with shrimp for $26 the portion was tiny and did not come out sizzling and was definitely not fajitas, the black beans were too salty and the white rice was bland. We ordered the guacamole where she made it at the table...it was definitely missing something maybe more lime...was good not great. Ordered a Margarita expecting a decent size typical mex restaurant glass, it came in a tiny glass filled with ice and in 3 sips it was gone. We ordered a shot of tequila Cabo Wabo $14 in my opinion over priced. Our total bill was $230 way more than 3 of us expected to pay for a girls lunch. Over all the place was nice, the server was great but with the frustration of the menu, bland salsa and over priced drinks and food we won't return.
