A friend and I were in the area to see a musical. The thing about McMenamins is that it's pretty consistent. You can go to most locations and get the same items with a few unique things to that location. My friend I go to shows with a lot is vegan so we know she can get a solid meal and they're usually open late too since we're food hunting around 10ish. I wasn't familiar with the layout of the grounds and it can be a challenge to get around in the pitch dark. We were coming in 1030pm on a Saturday and it is a venue. Unfortunately, I followed the directions. The powers that be put a huge EXIT ONLY sign at the parking lot entrance. I figured, looking at my GPS, that they were directing traffic to the back of the grounds so that people like us were not met with a bunch of cars coming right at them, trying to get out after the concert since this is also a hotel and restaurants/bars that people stay at or eat/drink at who have nothing to do with the concert. Fast forward a solid 15-20 minutes where my GPS was pointing the way, and I could clearly see where we needed to go... BUT they had a giant fence with padlocks blocking the road meaning that the only road in was the one blocked with the EXIT ONLY sign. So, I backed up and found a tiny service road to come towards that exit sign from the other side - and someone had actually moved the sign, so it wasn't completely blocking the road anymore. I imagine it was from the people trying to get out because the way that the sign had been placed blocked the road from going in or out! I was worried as we got a message from friends we were supposed to meet there saying that they had given up and that the parking lot was a complete disaster area. They said they were not able to find anything even remotely close to the restaurant. My friend got the text as we found the front of the building and I have an ADA tag. I drove right up seeing the entire ADA parking was empty except one other car. Then we were commenting at least they have iron railing to walk up the stairs... but oh wait, there's a ramp! So easy... although I could have done without the different two older people literally stepping on my foot with zero acknowledgement at all. I have a partially disconnected Achilles on that side so thanks for that. At least they didn't step on my cane? The staff were all so lovely... so helpful with our questions and making certain we had everything. I am not a vegan and went for a burger. I'm a huge fan of the dungeon burger... mushrooms & Swiss... and I love a place that asks me how I want my burger cooked - medium please! That grilled flavor is great. And a nice pile of tots. I'm even OK with a steady flow of RC cola. We were pretty surprised at how mellow everything was considering they'd had a major concert. There were a pair of ladies at the bar. I wandered to use the restroom as one was telling the other that she should clearly light that dude on fire as I was passing. Coming out and the tables had turned to talking about the other gals unfortunate dating life. I hope they both dump those dudes - ladies, you are both lovely, ditch the jerks! read more

SERVICE WAS AWFUL! We went with a small work group on a Wednesday for lunch. The service was absolutely terrible. It seemed like our server had little to no training or customer service skills. We came in with a small company lunch group of five, and it took over an hour to receive our food. In total, we were there for 2 1/2 hours before we could finally leave. The food was just okay, but the service completely overshadowed it. The location itself is really cool, but unfortunately, the staff and overall experience were not. The managers walked around as if nothing was wrong, even though multiple tables--including ours--were visibly frustrated. We kept looking around in disbelief at how poor the service was and couldn't understand why no one stepped in to help. Here are just a few of the issues we experienced: #1 We weren't given enough silverware. #2 We didn't receive plates for our appetizers. #3 We were charged for a basket of tater tots that we were told would be "on the house" because of the long wait. #4 Our sweet potato fries were forgotten, but we were still charged for them. At that point, we just wanted to leave. #5 Our server disappeared for 20 minutes at a time and rarely checked on us. #6 Several other customers around us also appeared frustrated with the service. #7 Our waters and Sprites were mixed up. #8 Our food orders were delivered to the wrong people. I've always enjoyed McMenamins, but this location was a huge disappointment. I hope management takes a serious look at the level of training, supervision, and customer service at this location because it simply wasn't acceptable. read more

I didn't even know they have one here! Positives: 1. It's McMenamins! It's stained glass, wrought iron, old school house, it's always impressive! 2. Our service was prompt, informative, friendly and exactly how I want my sandwich cut and presented. 3. I'd rather eat here, than to go food cart, or some other fast food joints. 4. Hammerhead is celebrating 40? Congrats! 5. I did like my Cranberry Chicken Salad, though, including my fries. 6. Hubby finished his hamburger and salad, and he said they were delicious! We still look forward to staying at one of their hotels, maybe we'll do that during our 2026 Road Trip - Bend? OK, here comes the negatives: 1. We followed the GPS, and we entered the parking lot, and parked. But, we didn't see but two other cars, one all banged up. We weren't sure where the front door (or door was). We continue driving, inside their lot, and parked again. But, we didn't want to enter from the hotel, or maybe we have to enter through there, to get to the diner. At this point, we both needed to use the restroom! We kept trying on every door, maybe it's this no it's that one, wait, it's locked. Oh, no! That's another room. Finally, we found someone to help us. Honestly, I almost didn't made it! 2. We waited a long time for our ticket. I know they're short staffed. As we were almost done, they were getting more crowded. 3. Mustard & Ketchup: Shake before bringing them to our table, so they looked like they're brand new bottles. See photo below, dried up, leftover ketchup on the bottom side of the bottle. At least, wipe it clean, so we don't gross out! 4. French Fries thinly sliced, nice & crispy, but for pete's sakes, remove the two burned fries off my plate. 5. My Chicken Salad looks pretty empty along the sides. It's plump in the middle. The wheat bread looks dry! 6. We were both craving for something cold, something maybe to bring back to our car (ice cream, sundae, something like that). As we were walking back to the (side of the building) to the door back out, we spotted an ice cream freezer, and our eyes lite up. But, $8 for ice cream sandwich? Forgetaboutit! This was my first time visiting but have heard great things about this McMenamins location with its garden grounds, spa services, and family-friendly movie screenings. The parking lot wasn't too big from where we entered from what I assumed the back of the property, maybe they have more parking on the other side. We walked by the outdoor dining area but they were not open until later on Tuesdays so we opted to dine at the Ironwork Grill with 2 toddlers. They seemed like they were short-staffed but service was still decently friendly, even though understandably a little slower. I wanted the Fig and prosciutto flatbread but they didn't have it which was disappointing. We ordered kids meal and the burger with tots costed $8.25 and did not come with a drink. I did not think it was worth that (see picture). I got the Crab and Shrimp roll originally with Cajun tots, but what came out was the soup of the day (minestrone) which I didn't mind since it's probably better for me anyway, same $1 up-charge cost. There was a good amount of crab and shrimp inside but the bread roll was dry so the soup helped. I will say that their Lunch Box Special is worth it at around $11 for a half sandwich, soup, and salad. Next time I'll get that. Generally I do think McMenamins food is a little on the pricey side and the quality can vary depending on the day or which McMenamins property you are visiting. But I would come back to this location for happy hour, movies, or other events for sure! read more

Fun place to sit, slow slow service, even on a slow Friday night when there seemed to be plenty of servers around to cover the tables. I'd only come here when staying at the hotel. It took an eon to get water - much later than when we ordered our drinks and revived them. We got cocktails to start - both of ours were pretty good, brandy based drinks. For dinner we shared a white flight and weren't really impressed - Oregon has a ton of great local wines and theirs did not make it to the top for me. For food, we got a side salad to share, the sausage pizza and their short ribs with mashed potatoes. Presentation wasn't great on the short ribs but the dish itself tasted good (though not really worth the price tag for the lackluster service). Pizza was alright - crisp on the bottom. As always, with McMenamins you're paying extra for the fun locations and quirky art work. The food and service don't deserve these prices, but when in staying at the hotel, it's convenient. I was here at 5:50-ish and had to argue my way to happy hour prices, since happy hour ends at 6 and the waitress tried to tell me I had to order off the dinner menu. She asked for my drink order at 5:55pm then ran off before I could order food. She came back at 6:07 with my drink. I'd recommend the happy hour Ceasars salad, as it was worth $10, although i added prawns (they only put 4 prawns on the plate) for an additional $10 The cheesecake was superior to any other cheesecake I've ever tried! I ordered 2 different sangrias: the 2-rum based 3 rocks is much fruitier ( if not tropical) than the black rabbit sangria ( brandy based). I still think Mexican food restaurants do sangria best, but it "hit" me the way I wanted with 2 drinks. I love the view of trees and foliage near the windows in May. The other restaurant here, called Pat's Corner had better outdoor vistas, but it was a bit windy today so I opted to stay in at dusk. I had dappled sunlight coming in the windows. read more

One of the great things about McMenamins hotel locations is that you have a variety of locations where you can dine. We chose Ironwork Grill because, well, it was cold outside. Beer flight! Yum! I like that the location will allow you to choose different beers or you can go with a set list. They are kind about it and helpful, as well. McMenamins is generally pretty solid when it comes to their menu items, and Ironwork Grill holds true to this axiom. After exploring the exhaustive and expansive grounds of the Grand Lodge, we popped in for a quick bite to eat, and were seated in the shaded patio, in the perfect September weather. My wife and I split the smaller of the two Hammerhead BBQ Chicken Pizzas and some Truffle Fries. We both agreed that there wasn't enough "truffle" seasoning in the fries, but they were still thick cut, stout and tasty, breaded and salted nicely, and the black garlic aioli is fan-freaking-tastic! Likewise, the Hammerhead BBQ Chicken pizza is an awesome amalgam of flavors, from the savory sweet BBQ sauce (which was the hidden star of the show, as it is the primary sauce and thus lies sequestered below the cheese layer), crisp hints of cilantro, and the spicy tang of the onions. Really great! We polished off our iced teas, shared our extra fries with the extremely brave and friendly squirrels scurrying around at our feet, then continued our explorations of the hotel and the surrounding grounds, as the sunset approached and the ambient lights began to twinkle to life. Had breakfast with my friend after spending the night on the property. Our waitress was a very friendly girl, who took our order quickly and properly then left us to chat while the order cooked. Our coffee was delicious, the cream was fresh, and when the food came to the table it looked great. My order of an Italian Sausage and white cheddar omlette with hash browns was delicious, but the hash browns were cold. We told the waitress and she set about to make that right. We love McMenamins, we really do. I would have l really loved to leave a better review for the Ironwork Grill. The staff is absolutely lovely and friendly. It's a limited menu, so if you are a McMenamins freak, like we are, and stay for more than 2 days, you're going to get quickly bored. We ordered side salads and a bacon cheeseburger to split. I do not understand why McMenamins chooses to serve their side salads at the same time as your entree. It does not compute. If you want to eat your salad prior to your entree, guess what, the entree is cold by the time you get to it. Our server was gracious and had another, much fresher entree prepared while we ate our salads. Their house salad is delicious. Their cheeseburgers are so-so -- even when served fresh. Please McMenamins - shake up your menu from location to location, so the folks who love you can also shake it up. And please serve your apps before entrees. A gem in a hidden spot amongst the Tualatin Valley. You can always expect the same. The tots with dipping sauce are a must. Coupled with a salad of choice. Those for an easy Thanksgiving, it was a breeze to reserve for my husband and I. Less than 1 minute to book a traditional turkey with all the fixings. Paired with seasonal pumpkin cheesecake, and the best old fashion. Stirred not shaken, and a pallet pleasing Pacific NW wine. Service was readily available. McMenamins Ironwork Grill is not where you go to grab a meal on your way to somewhere else. The pace is a slow for that. However, it is a great place to be. Conversation is easy here. The ambiance has many interesting and beautiful things to see (also, the grounds are spectacular!). But the kitchen is inventive, the menu changes regularly, and the meals are mostly delicious, with many fun beverages. We bring our kids here, and they have a great time. The tables are big enough for them to spread out a little bit, and the menus have a place for them to color with the provided crayons. The food is pretty good. However, one morning I ordered the corned beef hash that was on their menu. Rather than sour cream, the white sauce was some sort of mayonnaise based sauce. I rechecked the menu to see if I had missed it when ordering, but there was no mention on the menu. As a person in the "Mayonnaise is Disgusting Camp," I'm used to ordering burgers "with no mayonnaise" whether or not the menu description mentions it is included. Or assuming anything called "Burning Love Sauce" or that includes the word "salad" and goes inside a sushi roll probably has mayo on it. However, corned beef hash is not a meal that one should be worried about being ambushed with a camouflaged mayonnaise serving without warning. I almost dropped a star in my review due to this. Then I thought how many times I've been here and did not fall into such a disgusting trap, and felt that holding off a start for this would be retribution, and not really fair. 4 stars is what they have earned if I were to consider all of my visits here. But I'll be more wary the next time I order. read more

Not really an update since it's pretty much the same experience with the other scores of times I've had meals at a number of various McMenamins. The basic facility decor and staff attitude are amazing. The food service line is just an afterthought. It's not terrible, but for the price, it's marginal enough that we just avoid it if we can. I figure that the baseline for all food service is Denny's, and if a place is not able to be as good as Denny's (let alone double their prices), well . . . I ordered the special our first day which was an omelet with some fresh vegetables and ham with thick bread and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were done nicely but literally almost warm and the omelet was fresh (the 1 oz of cheese was melted) but the meager insides were literally cold. How much effort does it take to make a hot breakfast to rival Denny's? I passed this on to the server ("The food tasted great but it was all cold"). We tried again the next day and again the hashbrowns were barely warm as was the toast and the berry jam had an odd aftertaste--but maybe that was just me. Both days we were 15 feet away from the grill and were served swiftly by very attentive and pleasant servers although we had to as for jam and ketchup. I got a bagel with cream cheese and in the dead center of the scoop was a bit of tomato. How hard is it to keep the food separate? When that lack of concern is expressed, one then has to ask if they wash the dishes or their hands. . . We had decided to go off grounds for dinner, but I really like to wake up and get breakfast without having to leave the hotel. I guess we probably will just not eat here at all. I was really rooting for them and thought I would get popcorn (10 on a scale of 1-10 slam dunk right?). There was six staff surrounding the popcorn machine and 1 customer ahead of me. I was very politely instructed that they were in the middle of a rush and I should come back in 5 minutes. I didn't and probably won't. read more

Customer service is such an integral part of any business, and it's a shame that it sucked the last 2 times I went here. I brought my family here while they were visiting, and the service in the restaurant was among the worst I've ever experienced. I feel bad for posting this, but Aaron was our server, and I felt like I was at a Dick's Last Resort lacking the humor factor. It obviously wasn't his mood, because he treated the people in front of us and behind us nicely. He was, frankly, an asshole. My aunt asked politely for extra napkins and he told her in a rude manner that if they were necessary he would bring them. So if she ASKED for more water, would it be his job to determine whether it was necessary or not, as well? We also asked about the strawberry strudel and rather than say, "I'm not sure, I've never seen/had it" or "Let me go ask" he made it obvious that he didn't want to answer any questions and that he didn't want to wait on us anymore. We chose another dessert item and asked for it to go, and he just said, "We can't do that." So I asked for it without the ice cream that it comes with on the side. He didn't know that I had it before. He came out with it in a tiny, tiny container about 1/3 the size of the original (minus the ice cream), and charged us full price. He's lucky he got a tip. Giving this 3 stars because of an amazing server named Steve but other then him I'm pretty disappointed. My wife and I come here quiet often. We like to stay on her bday, catch a movie and visit the outdoor soaking pool. We recently came here on June 3rd for the Brewfest and met some friends who brought their small dog. We went to the restaurant and I told the host (younger 18-20ish blonde kid) that we needed a table outside because we had a dog. He took my name and we waited for 10 mins before our table was ready. When we went up the hostess was now a female who I told we needed a table outside since we had a dog, she said they didn't have tables in the front even though there was 3 of 4 tables free. She told me she had a nice sunny booth for us inside and I asked do you let dogs in and she said ohhh no we don't actually. I again reminded her we had a dog and then as I was saying that the younger kid came back up and I told her that I asked him to make sure we were outside. At this point I was pretty mad but I don't like to treat food service people with disrespect. We were very happy with our stay at the lodge and were impressed with the Ironwork Grill! We had the same server for both our dinner the night before and breakfast, and he was very attentive and on top of it (especially for having back to back shifts like that)! I had the green with envy pizza + the recommendation of adding chicken and it was so good! Breakfast was just as tasty (bagel sandwich). It's well known that food service has taken a hit with COVID, but with how quickly the food was prepared and how attentive the staff were, I am so impressed that McMenamins has been able to stay at this level. read more

Went with our son and his girlfriend on a Friday evening of Thanksgiving weekend. Very light crowd for a weekend, but I believe the holiday may have been the reason. Our server was very friendly, and our appetizers and drinks arrived quickly. We ordered the truffle fries, which were fantastic. The spring rolls were quite small, for what was charged. I had the fish and chips dinner, which was two smallish chunks of halibut nicely coated with a beer batter and served with fries and coleslaw. My wife had a salad, which was on the small side. My son had a shrimp and rice dish, which was served with three shrimp. I thought they could've added more for the price charged. My only complaint is that the entrées arrived at our table very quickly, not allowing enough time to enjoy the appetizers and our first round of drinks. Probably a by-product of the fact that the restaurant was slow. All in all, not bad but probably would not go back. Servings just too small for price. read more

Came for an early dinner with my family, and the sign was up to wait to be seated. Someone was at the front working on something, so we stayed patient but after a while she didn't even acknowledge us or let us know she would be right with us. Then 3 other employees just walked by us without acknowledging us. We waited for about 5 minutes and the original woman started to walk away and when we asked to speak to a manager, a gentle men came out and we shared our experience thus far and he just stared at us and said ok. Not even an apology and an acknowledgment of any wrong doing. Our server was great but when our food came out, my husbands plate literally had 10 tater tot's compared to the mountain my daughter had in her kids meal. I had slightly more then my husband, enough to notice he hardly had any. All we wanted was to be acknowledged, and I would have wanted to know how my employees were behaving when not saying hello to paying customers but they didn't give a shit. My inlaws are in town for the week, up from Los Angeles. So we're showing them around town, eating various places, and mostly just hanging out. Last night's dinner: McMenamins Grand Lodge. It wasn't a particularly busy night (being Tuesday) at 7:30pm, and we wound up getting right in and seating ourselves. It's a lot more bustling on Friday and Saturday nights, and they often have bands playing downstairs--things can get quite loud. But this wasn't one of those nights. The six of us (including Wife N, Wife N's mom and dad, and our two kids) sat at a large round table, steam rising into the cool damp autumn night from the warm pool in the courtyard behind us. I wasn't into heavy eating, so I decided to order my favorite...the...wait a second--where's the Brewer's Salad? Turns out, it's no longer on the menu. Thankfully, I could still order one. Hazelnuts, bleu cheese and pickled pink onion rings adorn a mixed-green salad with house-made raspberry vinaigrette. Or they're supposed to anyway. My Brewer's was delivered with four tiny shreds of onion, three crumbles of bleu cheese, half the normal amount of dressing and exactly zero hazelnuts. They just missed. Bad salad night. Waiter was extremely apologetic, took the offending salad, and returned almost immediately with a perfectly-made one with appropriate accoutrements. THAT's what I was expecting, and all became well with the world once again. Dinner was great from that point. Burgers were nice (father in law even commenting that it was one of the better burgers he's had recently), kids loved their burgers and tots, fish and chips was great, etc. All in all, minor salad hiccup aside everything was decent, and the service was unusually great. They have a wide-ranging selection of micro-brew beers of their own brand, plus seasonal variants. Small "eat while you watch a movie" cheap admission B-run theater upstairs, day spa, beautiful grounds with disc golf, outdoor dining (great for the warmer/drier months). As McMenamins go, overall this one is one of the better ones. read more

I honestly cant remember the last time I wrote a review, but I just can't keep quiet on this one. I have been coming to the place for years and never received such service. It took someone a while to realize that I was waiting to be seated which is no problem I know they're busy at times. I had an toddler and one grown child with me I was not offered a high chair which I usually am so I found that odd. As soon as we were seated I realize there is only about five or so parties so I figured that we would see a server soon. It took and I kid you not 15 minutes before a server came up to us and said how are you doing let me get your waters. I waited another 10 minutes and she had not come back. Then I said to myself you know what I'm not gonna spend my money in a place that can't even give me water within the first 15 minutes of me sitting down. I took my children and left. Are usually give people a lot of leeway especially when it's busy however there were not that many tables so I couldn't even come up with an excuse for them. The service was very slow, pasta dry and cold, 1st of kids meal came out 30 min before all other meals, was asked for the room key sleeve when I wanted to charge it to our room! What is up with that?? Also could not sit at the outside tables even though the bar/food service was closed. Not sure I understand what is going on?? We had breakfast here and well not so good. Hashbrowns overdone and chicken fried steak, well so-so. The next evening we had small fish and chips it only has 1 PC of Fish???? Kind of used to 2 with a small and 3 with a a large. But they give one (1). I think the best thing to eat here is a burgers, tots and drinks!!!! read more

Feels like the entire staff has turned over. Ate dinner last night and lunch today. Last night ood not intended for us showed up twice. Lots of apologies for failure to take drink orders and misrouted food. Our waitress last night was great. This morning we got to hear a group of people stand by our table and chat about and negotiate who was going to take our table on. Whomever the dude was was grumpy. Snide and terse comments to the other female staff. I would have told him to shove it. Maybe that's one reason new people work there. Attitudes like that will turn your staff over for sure. Food is ok, but in expensive side for average. Last night's lemon linguine is NOT recommended. Lamb kabobs good but 14.00 for two ground lamb kabobs is pricey. Today's lunch I got to pay a dollar extra to replace I huge mound of fries for a palmful of salad. read more
