Utterly delightful and delicious time at La Mixteca! The food here is authentic Oaxacan cuisine which features rich, complex sauces, tender meats and lots of color! Don't know what to order? No problem! The owners, Lucia and Jose, and their children are informative, welcoming and patient hosts. Lucia honors her mother by cooking her traditional recipes. After sampling a spicy little grasshopper (slightly chewy with a crunch. A leg got stuck in my teeth but it wasn't unpleasant!), I enjoyed a delightful pork ribs dish. I thought it was a mole sauce but looking at the menu, it could have been the pork ribs in red sauce. In any case, yummy! No knife needed. Sauce was delectable! Small chunks of potatoes alongside soak it up nicely. Served with excellent flavorful beans and rice and three handmade tortillas. Also tried the Memelitas de Frijole appetizer, a triangle overflowing with black bean paste and cheese! Both dishes had a pleasant kick. I don't like extreme spicy. This was just right! Rounded out my meal with a passionfruit agua fresca, best way to cool that tongue down. Everything arrived promptly despite the fact I was there with a very large group. We basically took over the restaurant! Because of that, Jose served us complementary tiny shots of mescal with an orange slice and a refreshing dessert with 2 scoops of sorbet and tiny cubes of frozen mango. A refreshing way to finish an all-round unique, delectable and authentic eating adventure!

Great service! Atmosphere enjoyable. It seems a overpriced at first, but when you get your plate you can see it's well worth the price. The food is fresh and the portions are large. We took half our food home and ate the next day. The only complaint that I have is that they charge $3.50 for a can of soda or a bottle of soda, not a specialty soda. Coke and diet coke. It's a little ridiculous since there aren't any refills. Definitely overpriced drinks. However, we would definitely go again and not order sodas. dinner for two, no alcohol, including tip, was a little over $60.

It was our first time with my family, it was delicious My two kids got soft tacos with steak and I got the salsa verde pork plata. Everything is big portions.

Friendly staff with attentive customer service. We had the horchata, a carne asada burrito and a pork taco plate. Everything was good and the rice & beans were delicious. I'll definitely return.

    Disappointing.

The first time I ate here, I loved it. I thought it was the best margarita I've ever had. I was excited to return. I showed up after work. I ordered a margarita and the young person at the cash register said they wouldn't have a bartender for an hour and a half. I left. The second time I went there I took a friend. I made sure that they were open at 11 o'clock on Saturday. We showed up at noon. The sidewalk advertising placard was out. The restaurant was locked. I called the number on the placard. I was told the staff were at the other restaurant. I drove from a distance and recommended the restaurant to my friend. If you don't have staffing, change your hours. Update your hours on your social media and website. Pull in your sidewalk placards. The community invested a lot of charity money getting this restaurant up and running after the fire. It's disrespectful to the other area merchants who are trying to revitalize downtown Hillsboro. Nothing will kill a business quicker than false advertising.

    Great food, friendly service.

Very delicious, authentic Oaxacan cuisine! I ordered the Costillitas en Salsa (red or green sauce)-very tender Pork ribs and I picked the green sauce. My wife had two tacos (carne aside and al pastor) which were a meal because the were humungous. They offer very safe dine in spaced out well indoors and cute tents outdoors. Great service, delicious beverages, amazing free chips served with beans topped with fresh cheese, red & green salsas.

It was fun to try Oaxacan food as we had never had it before. Pictured is the Tlayuda which is a signature dish. Clearly, it could EASILY be split! While the website doesn't show it, there are margaritas on the menu and we enjoyed those. Service was ok....no waters for all or extreme attentiveness. Setting is very casual.

    Pazole

The pazole was flavorful and full of meat and hominy. The fresh plate of jalapenos, raw onions, radish, lettace and tostadas were an nice addition to the soup. I also tried the pastor taco which was equally as delicious l. The meat was moist and marinated nicely and the tortillas tasted hand made. I wish the place was closer to me, it reminds me of the food I used to have in Mexico.

Cute restaurant with delicious food. It was our first time visiting, and we were impressed and delighted with the food we ordered. The mole chicken dish I ordered was very flavorful and so delicious and similar to the one I grew up eating in my abuelita's (grandma's) kitchen. My kid loved their memelita with black beans - made from delicious fresh corn masa. I also had a cup of black coffee that actually turned out to be Café de olla, a traditional coffee beverage made with ground coffee and cinnamon. If you find yourself in the Hillsboro's historic district and you're hungry, I would highly recommend giving them a try. I'll definitely be back with my husband and daughter. Customer service was good - our server was very attentive and professional; their restroom is located outside of the restaurant space down the hallway from the entrance of the building, the key is located at the ordering counter. Parking is limited due to the construction across the street from the restaurant (one way street too - going west) - we parked on 3rd. Anyway, hope you enjoy this eatery.

We all had an amazing time. It's so good that local celebrities like Eric Miller (Timbers' #15) was there dining while we were enjoying our food. SERVICE Zoe's amazing service is worth calling out, first highlight of our dinner. She was happy, funny, sprinkled zesty remarks that made us laugh, brought food fast, recommended great dishes, clarified all of our questions - Precisely what one expects from the warm Mexican server. It would be unfair to not mention the rest of the staff, it's just that Zoe was the unapologetically the best. FOOD Just the highlights from everything we had: - Chilaquiles Tarascos ($18.99) + Egg ($4): Our measuring stick for Mexican food authenticity, so we ignored how pricey they were for chilaquiles. These are chips in salsa topped with meat and egg. The way they make this dish sets the bar high for all other Mexican restaurants! - Machete con Carne ($18): Delicious giant taco with hand-made corn tortilla, cheese and up to 2 meats of your choice This is what I ordered based on Zoe's recommendation. I'm a 6'2" 215 lbs. man and I felt that I shouldn't have eaten the whole thing, BUT I DID! - Horchata: ($6.2): You'll taste the rice and the cinnamon, like the one Abüelitas in Mexico make. - House Made Flan ($6.99): You'll taste the egg in this flan. I can hear the chef yelling to the cooks in the kitchen when they're making this: "¡Con huevos!" - Café de Olla: ($6.20): AUTHENTIC MEXICAN Coffee! This is not a novelty you find on Instagram where lattes are poured on pastries, no. This is THE REAL DEAL. AMBIANCE We sat outside, the weather calls for it. Simple wooden picnic tables to enjoy the weather, not much needed. It was a difficult decision because inside the decor is BEAUTIFUL. - Outside: About 6 picnic tables sitting 6 people each. - Inside: About 6 or 7 tables for 2, and 3 booths for 6 and 4 tables for 4 people. - Parking: On the street and a small parking lot for about 5 vehicles. CLOSING THOUGHTS This business is doing everything right by representing Mexican culture. They're not adding American cheese just for the sake of catering to a certain demographic. They're hiring people who can speak Spanish from Mexico to provide a great service and experience. You can see the LOVE that the owner(s) are pouring into this business, if you see their taco trucks (I saw 2 parked in their parking lot) or need catering, do yourself a favor and try them. And I've had my fair share of bad ones in the area. Not as great a folks advertise it to be. However when I first stepped foot on Ochoas' greasy floors, I knew this place would be exceptionally legit! Here's what I've tried and here's what I dig about Ochoas: ~ Their variety of Combos (about $12-14). I've done their tacos enchiladas, and chicken fajitas type of combos and man they've been belly filling silly! So stuffed, so good! SO worth it! I would reduce a star due to tortillas being sold separately, but I didn't mind not having tortilla. ~ Two recommended plates, the Tacos Dorados ($14) and the Enchiladas Suisa ($16) man'o'man are these plates are dope! I usually get them filled with chorizo, but I say get them with campechano (asada and chorizo). Super flavorful! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Their lengua and pastor are also tasty! ~ My favorites are actually their breakfast burritos. Chorizo is chorizo, but their Combo breakfast burrito ($9.50) is filled with sausage, ham, cheese, and stuffed with eggs they're not shiesty about adding. Can't go wrong with their breakfast burritos! ~ I'll be honest here, I wasn't really a fan of their tamales. They look good, but I've had better. Not enough to reduce a star either. ~ Legit "Salsa Bar" that usually has six different types. Loved a lot of them too! But really it depends on what salsa goes with what. ~ Another bonus, they've got a catering booth at the Orenco Station Farmer's Market! As far as dining-in, it's nothing fancy. Clean enough to eat there even though I mentioned the floor condition earlier lol. Had to tell them to kick on the heater when it was cold too. Regarding service, I've have to turn up my broken Spanish, but for the most part they've been patient enough to take my order with ease. No issues with service. Again it confirms the legitimacy. That's all I've got to say, and to me they're "one of the best for Mexican food in Hillsboro". I don't care about the negative reviews and what others may think. I say, if you're hesitant like I was, give them a try them and compare for yourself. If you've got a place that's better, let me know.

Yet their website states the following: Sunday: 10:00 AM-9:00 PM I do see they have 4 stars overall. I gave it 5 stars a year and a half ago. It definitely doesn't warrant 5 stars. The scheduled hours in the front window area is missing half of the numbers. The threshold is filthy. The knife in my roll-up had something crusted on it. And we were told very nicely, by our server Johana, that she hoped the Chef would come back, as he had left earlier. Whew...he came in after we were there about 10 minutes. We arrived at 4:00. And the last irritant...the music sound level. I wanted to ask Johana to turn it down, but just put it off. We were told at 10:00 Casa Lola becomes a night club...fine, but at 4:00 on a Sunday. Johana was terrific and the food was good. My Al Pastor Tacos were okay. Not great, but not bad. Black beans and rice accompanied all of the dishes and they also were good...not great. My wife, being a vegetarian, had the Enchilada's stuffed with carrots and potatoes. She loved the sauce, even though it had queso fresco on top, as she had requested none be served. Again, Service 5 stars, Food 4 stars, Misc. 0 stars It will be interesting to see if the restaurant is open one year from now.
