My husband and I (Marathon locals) recently ate dinner on June 9, 2026 at El Siboney Overseas. This was our 2nd time eating at this restaurant. The first time was during their grand opening week late last year (4Q2025), in which the service and food were amazingly fantastic! Unfortunately, last night was disappointing. The food quality was lacking (salty, not hot, and seemingly not fresh) and the service was not exceptional particularly since there were only two additional tables besides ours being served indoors. Attention to detail, like filling water glasses and clearing plates without the guest having to ask would be a great start. Also a friendly, welcoming service team would make all the difference in the world when the food is below average. Going out to dinner these days truly is a luxury. The prices are high and the servings are much smaller than they used to be. A consideration for El Siboney Overseas is to compensate the higher prices with phenomenal, undeniable food and service...especially, when it's obviously slow due to it currently being the "off season" in the Florida Keyes. Sadly, after last night's experience, we're not planning on returning to El Siboney Overseas. read more

El Siboney - Overseas Highway Same ownership as the Key West luncheonette, but this is a completely different animal. Big space, indoor and outdoor bar, large menu -- this is a full-scale restaurant, not a counter spot. One immediate tell: mofongo is on the menu. That's your hint this isn't strictly Cuban. The owners are Dominican (they're upfront about it), and honestly that makes sense. Cuban sells better in South Florida -- no mystery there. We started with a mojito -- very good. White Bacardi, lots of yerba buena, bright lime. Clean, refreshing. If I wasn't under the weather I probably would've had two. Appetizer: Tostones rellenos with shrimp This was the best thing we had. Four crisp plantain cups, each topped with a properly cooked shrimp, plus extras on the side. Very garlicky, nicely balanced, and the plantains were thin and actually crisp (which is not a given). Based on this alone, I'd lean seafood here all day. Entrée: Picadillo. This was a miss. Not just a little oily -- visibly oily. You can see it pooling around the dish. That's usually one of two things: the beef wasn't drained, or the sofrito is overloaded with oil. Either way, it broke the dish. Flavor didn't really land either. I sent it back. Arroz moro: Had a slightly bitter note. I'm not going to go nuclear on that because I've been sick all week and my palate may be off, but it didn't hit for me. Garlic chicken: Very good -- just not what we expected. This isn't Spanish pollo al ajillo. It's more of a roasted chicken with mojo onions and a garlic-citrus marinade. Different lane, but well executed. At that point I bailed on the entrée and swapped for chicken soup to take back to the timeshare -- which is honestly what we should've done from the start given how we feel. (Both nearby Chinese spots were closed, which didn't help.) Atmosphere: Casual, a little eclectic. Indoor space has that older Keys Cuban/Caribbean vibe -- bar-centric, slightly worn but comfortable. The outdoor area is actually pleasant, but be aware: a lot of cigar smoking. If that bothers you, stick inside. Bottom line: There's clearly capability here -- the appetizer proved that. But execution isn't consistent across the menu. If I come back, I'm going seafood and starters only and skipping the heavier meat dishes. read more

It was our first time at the restaurant, we had heard great things about El Siboney. We ordered a Cuban Mix and it was terrible, the mayo sauce was so heavy that the ham , tomato and lettuce kept sliding out. The sandwich just fell apart. My wife's sandwich was the Roast Beef and it was so loaded with mayo sauce she couldn't eat it. read more

I've eaten at El Siboney in Key West many times before. I was so excited to see a El Siboney in Marathon on our family's vacation in Marathon. Restaurant looked roomy but we opted for a patio table- nice breezy evening- next to the bar. We were greeted by the manager. Our waiter came by promptly to take our drink order. I ordered a red sangria. Bit on the sweet side but refreshing. Appetizer-we ordered the testones a fried perfectly . Came with two delicious shredded pork, small plates, onions, and guacamole. Highly recommend as an appetizer.. my go to dish at Cuban restaurants is the beef steak with onions. Meat was super tender onions, slightly sautéed and I got plantains rice and beans on the side. They have a really good selection and combination for sides if your sides eater like. My friend got the enchildo de Camarones - similar to like a shrimp creole with a tomato base sauce. I tried it and it was delicious too. Our waiter friendly the food took a little time to come out, but I'd rather the food come out fresh.. I recommend coming here just to have really good Cuban food or if you haven't tried Cuban food this is a great place to try it out. Also, I was getting tired of eating fish all the time so this is a great alternative to your fish from the Keys seafood restaurants and cultural. I'll be back again before I leave and go home. Forget everything about what this location WAS and start fresh with what it IS now. And start today! Sat outside today with a group of six. Fantastic, personable service from the barkeep. Amazing, plentiful custom cocktail selections. The food: lights-out authentic Cuban and a huge variety of choices. Enough to satisfy any palate. Serving sizes worth the money. Good value here. Recommend and will be a repeat customer. They're doing everything right. In addition, the remodel was much needed and tastefully done. Good for family outings or barflies. We have only heard good things about El Siboney in Key West, but have not yet visited. We were excited to try out the new location on Marathon. We sat at the outside bar, Marina was our bartender, and there was live music (Luannen who is fantastic!). Marina told us that Grandma makes the empanadas, so, of course, we had to try cheese and beef, as well as a tamale. We ordered the el Siboney steak and grilled grouper, served with plantains, rice, and beans. It was like being in Grandma's kitchen; everything was absolutely incredible. The black beans were the best beans we have ever had anywhere. Who knew beans could melt in your mouth? We did not even have anything leftover. This was a great find! read more

We were so disappointed in the new restaurant. We never miss visiting the Key West location. We have even celebrated birthdays there. This place needs to improve their cooking or will not be there long. Cuban dishes were mediocre and cafeteria quality. Nothing special. Roast pork seemed like my week old crock pot roast when I reheat it. Our first order of croquettes were cold and frozen in the center. Good service with welcoming staff but NO quality control Next time we will get our cuban fix in Key West. read more

Overall, I would give them 3.5*s. The service was sub-standard. The pork tenderloin, and fried pork chops were very tasty, but overcooked. If I go back again, I'll ask them to cook it less. The ice tea was too weak. Portions were large. I liked the yuca frites, but they weren't very warm by the time they got to the table. read more

Solid Cuban spot in Marathon. The tostones mix was a great way to start, and the El Siboney Steak, the shredded beef, and the palomilla are top notch. Portion sizes are huge for the price, it's super affordable and the staff is always so hospitable. Nice local vibe overall! read more

I've been waiting on this for awhile! Taking over the old Overseas spot. First off, it's brighter, cleaner and looks great and inviting. After hearing a lot about the KW locations I was excited. We had a pitcher of sangria to start that was fragrant and fruity. Appetizers followed. The calamari was amazingly tender, not chewy and overcooked like some other places (the former incarnation included). Ropa vieja tostones and mojo sampler was plentiful, juicy and flavorful. The chicken and fried pork chunks had the authentic taste like sitting with abuela in Havana on a sunny day. I'm waiting for Guy Fieri to pull up and show the fabulousness of the next best thing Marathon! Welcome and keep it up. read more

hard to see the Overseas Bar & Grill implode last. year. But we gave El Siboney a try last night for dinner. Friendly staff greeted us warmly. fresh home made bread arrived soon thereafter....very good. tried the Yucca Bites as an appetizer and they were very tasty. conch chowder was good but light on the conch. Beef empanada was good. Chicken teriyaki also good. Calamari as an appetizer was too rubbery, not crisp at all, would not order again. beers were cold. Black beans and rice were outstanding. Felt like a true Cuban experience....nice music playing from old Havana. Prices are reasonable. all in all, it's nice to have some variety of choice vs the fresh catch and fries joints that populate the area. read more
