The burrito gods are looking down on Tail of the Whale, smiling from ear to ear. I don't know why this place has never been recommended to me when staying on the Punta Mita compound, as I only found it through a google search. Maybe the burrito gods wanted me to earn this. Little did they know I'm from Manhattan Beach, where nothing is given, everything is earned. This spot has been a CRUCIAL find for me because I've found it tough to get an elite breakfast in the area. They have everything from waffles to chilaquiles to pancakes to a protein omelette to the aforementioned breakfast burrito blessed by the gods. Some free game here, you'd be a FOOL to not start with the pastry basket. Bread basket kinda weak tho, skip that. It has an absolute scenic view while being completely shaded by the clubhouse roof, as it overlooks the driving range of the golf course which is overlooked by the Puerto Vallarta Mountains in the distance. I also NEED to shoutout this glassware, as it ties together the entire space. This glassware was so unreal that we went and found them and bought 8 of them lol. Idk, I get inspired by the weirdest things sometimes. I could tell you where we got them but I'm gate keeping that I already give y'all enough. Located atop the golf shop with a beautiful view of the golf course (still under construction, the dining room is covered but open so there's a nice breeze. Every table has a view. The waiters are attentive and very professional but humble. The menu is small (in my opinion) but the choices are plentiful. Everything we ordered was made superbly. The flavors are amazing. Portions were perfect so you don't feel bloated after. Very detailed oriented with with flavors and presentation. Will be back again soon for their lunch. I highly recommend.

Since the service at the actual resort is impeccable, the same carries into the restaurant. Even though you are unfamiliar with the menu and its content, the waiters do a great job patiently explaining everything to you. For a family of 4, we were just looking for light lunch and ordered the guacamole with bacon as an appetizer and catch of the day (mahi mahi) tacos, carne asada, and tacos al pastor all to share. The guacamole was very fresh and they bring out the fresh ingredients and the morcajete (the lava rock bowl) to mix everything on the spot. The tacos and carne asada were also delicious! Not only was the presentation so nicely done so that you can tell you're eating at a nice restaurant inside a nice resort, but the dishes were also prepared very carefully with fresh ingredients. We left lunch feeling not too heavy as I tend to after eating Mexican food. Highly recommend the tacos! The only thing that bothered me were the black birds that kept encroaching and walking on top of neighboring tables. As someone who really doesn't like birds, i was very anxious about them the whole time I was eating. Though this is inevitable because the restaurant is half outdoors, I would have liked to eat my meal without worrying about them. However, this is easily avoidable if you sit towards the center of the restaurant instead of the tables along the outside. Overall, I highly recommend eating here if you're looking for a more casual place to enjoy Mexican cuisine!

Ordered off the menu to avoid hot plate Buffet, but had soggy "crispy" bacon. The worse part was the number of bees / wasps. After spending a few minutes guiding them away from my son and daughter with a waiter helping I asked to move tables. We did and they were just as bad there. We got the check and left 90% of our breakfast (no offer to cover all or part of the check). The previous night we ate there and the view was to die for! Amazing! The spice level on the food was far too much for my wife but the view made it worthwhile. Avoid for breakfast but take in the view in the evening! Hence two and not a single star.

To my parents' credit though, they showed up everyday at 9am on our trip just to get slapped around at the sport they know and love so much. It was oddly reminiscent of Rocky somehow getting up off the canvas in round 14 in his fight against Apollo Creed. Kinda sad really, but you gotta admire the grit and determination to just get to the final bell. Anyways, Boca Deli became our go to spot post Pickleball massacre as it is hands down a top 2 breakfast/coffee option in the area. The menu options are abundant, ranging from smoothies to pastries to omelets to pancakes. The Fruit Bowl paired with the Scrambled Eggs & home-made Chorizo became my lifeblood, as that Chorizo was hittin like a prime Apollo Creed. I also learned that locals call Chorizo, "the Zo." Just kidding ahahaha I might try to get that up and running though. For the last hour or so I have been trying my best to write some witty and glowing review of how tasty and beautiful this plate of Zo and Eggs with Beans & Chilaquiles was, with metaphors and similes intertwined that would make you laugh from your belly and simultaneously think "damn that is kinda deep though..." but I'm just gonna refer you to the attached picture because a picture is worth a thousand words. Although sometimes I vehemently disagree with that platitude, I think a few words can be worth thousands of pictures at times. But this, my dear reader, is not one of those times. Few things I enjoy in this life like eating some quality Chorizo when in Mexico. I gotta shout out my Mom for putting me on the Zo, Nancy Novo a mf legend! Thank you Boca Deli, I'll be back soon enough Si Dios quiere! Keep cookin up the home-made Zo!! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
