We came here because the restaurants we frequent around the corner are closed on Tuesday or way to crowded. The restaurant had a few customers and alot of dirty tables. It took the waitress a while before she came to take our order. When the food came out it was the wrong type of meat in the taco. We did not say anything. I'm frustrated over this review. Part of me wants to give a better score but I just can't. The food had mostly great flavors, though with some glaring problems. The service was awful but even with the bad service I would have given at least 3 stars. Here's the run down: Ordered a trio taco plate with some extra tacos: asada, pollo, chicharrones, pastor, barbacoa. The free chips and salsa were fresh and really tasty. Good. Asada was good but there was a bone in the taco. Bad. Pollo was flavorless but with good toppings. Neutral. Chicharrones was great. Good. Pastor was good. Good. Barbacoa was good but again there was both a bone as thick as my thumb in it AND bone chips. Bad, even deadly. Rice and beans had no flavor. Neutral. So, the taste ranges from ok to excellent, but the tacos had bone land mines! To top it off, the server hardly came around and paid little care. We had to seek her out for refills, she dumped our forks into the beans on the plate, and the kitchen didn't have any of the food we initially wanted to order. I was excited to try their homemade corn tortilla tacos, but maybe I've been spoiled by other places because I just didn't find their tacos all that great. The carne asada meat for one was too lean. I don't know if I ever complained that meat lacked fat, but in this case the meat was kinda dry without any fat. Maybe this is good for health nuts, but for a fatty like me, I cannot compromise taste for healthiness. The lengua was okay, it didn't suffer from the dryness that the carne asada did. I'm not sure why El Farolito gets all the credit when El Taco Sabroso Grill is nearby. It has the same charming inside and extremely warm service but because it is less on the radar, there is no wait time. I ordered the Al Pastor Sope, but you can choose any meat you'd like. The thick masa disc has been grilled crisp and topped with a smear of refried beans, your choice of meat, and a handful of cabbage, cheese and salsa roja. I love the textures - both the cabbage and the sope are crunchy but there is a creaminess from the beans and the inside of the sope. The sauce from the meat and salsa run together and flavor everything. The al pastor was on the fatty side so I might choose a different meat next time. Although the sope is only $3.50, it's easily filling enough as a meal. I didn't know that though, and ordered a Carne Asada Taco on a handmade corn tortilla The carne asada was deliciously marinated and well grilled so that each piece had a nice char. It was nice against the thick homemade corn tortilla. John's cabeza taco was dressed with a lot more salsa verde and it caused the fresh tortilla to fall apart earlier than mine so beware. John enjoyed his wet carnitas burrito, with onions, beans and salsa, and enchilada sauce over the top. It was astounding. We ate all that for $16. The waitress was incredibly friendly and adept, keeping waters and chip baskets perpetually filled. Looking around, regular patrons kept trickling in and it was fascinating to see what they ordered. Why hasn't this place been reviewed more?! I visited today during lunch with a group of friends and it was just delicious. Small, cozy and family-owned restaurant that serves legit Mexican food. They have a lot to select from, and the combos are not too pricey, between 6-10 dollars. I got the two item combo and got a pork tamal and carne asada soft taco. Each combo comes with fried rice and beans, and man... that was really good. One downside is that there is only ONE selection of tamal. Just pork. I was kinda bummed about this. This restaurant is in the heart of a little version of Mexico, and right when you enter... you just get that feel. It's a lovely little neighborhood with lots of culture bursting at the seams. Our waitress looked like the owner, and she was really friendly and accommodating to our massive amount of refills due to the DELICIOUS BUT DEADLY salsa to go with our chips. Y'all should really try it out, especially if you like Mexican food and you live in the OC. This place is located in a shady area, but it's all good because their happy hour is super cheap and a really great deal! They have HH from 4-8pm every weekday, where their beers are $2, tacos are $1, and oyster shooters are $1. Unfortunately, they ran out of oyster shooters when I came here, but I tried their carne asada and al pastor tacos. OMG. They were SO good and really authentic! The meat was really tender and perfectly seasoned - it tasted great with the fresh guacamole, onions, and cilantro that came with it! The tacos are wrapped in two tortillas and they are definitely bigger than your typical street tacos, but a bit smaller than the entree tacos you might be used to. The chips and salsa are really good too! I was in a complete carb coma after I ate here because I filled up on tacos and tons of chips...but OH, I felt so happy...at happy hour! :) Check this place out for sure! A co-worker and I ended up at El Taco Sabroso after we went into El Farolito and realized the wait was going to be 20+ minutes. Our one-hour lunch break is pretty unforgiving, so we decided to kick rocks and mosey on over to El Taco Sabroso, which came highly recommended on Yelp and was conveniently located only a couple blocks away. It was pretty empty when we arrived, and we were seated immediately. The waitress was extremely pleasant (almost a little over-the-top), and the food came out very quickly. My friend was very pleased with the chips and salsa, homemade corn tortillas, and carnitas plate he ordered. I too, tried the carnitas in the form of a soft taco, and loved the flavor. The carne asada soft taco I got was also very tasty. I ordered an al pastor burrito, and although the meat was extremely flavorful, I noticed quite a bit of fat mixed in with the meat itself, which was a little off-putting, texture-wise. I think I'd still choose the al pastor from Taqueria de Anda (a hole-in-the-wall joint down the road a ways), but overall I enjoyed my experience at El Taco Sabroso. It seems to be pretty much up to par (if not better) than El Farolito, so I hope that more people decide to give it a shot. P.S. This probably isn't a place that you'd want to bring large groups. Sunday about noon. Just a quick lunch for my brothers birthday, we enter the place and we find a place to sit. Nobody greeted us. After a couple minutes a waitress comes with the menus. We ordered Horchata and Jamaica to drink. The restaurant offers chips and salsa before the food comes out. We ordered two Menudos, Tortas de Milanesa, two tacos al pastor and one of carnitas . After about 10 minutes the first torta comes; and the second one follows a couple minutes after followed by the tacos and menudos. The tortas were great; same with the menudos. But the tacos were disappointing. The pastor meat was mostly dry and the carnitas one was just ok. Our table was only helped about twice during our lunch. Nobody asked us about wanting another refill for any of the drinks; even though the place was not busy. Where do I start? This is a hidden gem located in Placentia worth the visit. When you first enter the restaurant you are given a menu and the staff is friendly. Usually it tends to be a bit slow which is good as you don't have to wait. You are given chips and salsa will you wait for your food. The salsa is very tasty in my opinion. For an appetizer the Queso fundido(melted cheese with chorizo) was good and I would order it again. It's nothing special but worth a try. My appetizer was accompanied by horchata which was fresh and refreshing. For the main dish I had carne asada, the meat is definitely the best thing of the plate. The portions are very good and the handmade tortillas added to the flavor. Saw El Sabrosos on DD and D and decided to try it to go. We tried the chicken tamales, chili replenished with shrimp and deluxe carne asada nachos. All the food was terrific and the chili rellenos is the best I've ever had. Stuffed with cheese, very light batter and we added shrimp with their house sauce on top. The chicken tamale had the perfect balance of masa and chicken with a good sauce on top. My daughter ordered carne asada nachos and it was huge. She commented that it had a ton of meat on every bite.
