I attended 2 events that catered from this restaurant. The food was amazing. I've since ordered catering from them two times. They've always come no later than 20 minutes of the time I requested. I love that when you call they have an english and spanish option on their call menu. The staff have always been extremely friendly and helpful. We've ordered the pernil, chicken, arroz moro, white rice, beans, potato salad, and maduros. Everyone that was invited to our events loved the food and asked where it was ordered from. The food tastes amazing. We've also ordered empanadas as well (chicken & beef) and those are also really good. This is now our go-to spot for any catering needs. I called prior to coming in and the call was answered well. I came in and picked up pollo a La caldera to go which is like stewed chicken, a small side of meat balls and platanos. When I get home and go to eat I notice the chicken is SO SLIMY, I start checking to see if it's cooked and none of the pieces are fully cooked they are all SLIMY and reddish purple Inside! From the outside is also looks unevenly cooked! I called back to complain and there's an option for "complaining to management" I should have know there was a reason for it, when I selected that option the call went straight into a voicemail box. Salcochos Soup too much tomato sauce they did put a lot of meat but with the overpowering of the tomato sauce the meat was not flavorful. Arepita de Yuca & Alcapuria were not how I remember tasting bland flavor. Only favorite of mine was Habichuela con Dulce, you have yourself a winner. Just how I remembered. I made the mistake of ordering lunch from here. I waited forever for the absolute coldest, driest food I've ever had. What a disappointment. At 12:21 I placed a GrubHub order for pernil, sweet plantains and a soda. I was a little alarmed when the order page said it wouldn't be here until 1:40-1:50 (that's not a typo, I do mean well over an hour). This food is prepared in advance. All they have to do is stick it in a tin and send it on its way. At 1:55 I checked the tracking and it still said it was being prepared, so I called the restaurant. The young woman who answered put me on hold, then came back on and said the food was out for delivery, they just hadn't updated the tracking. Uh huh. I don't buy it. I know how long it takes to get to El Sabor from here, and it's about 10 minutes. Finally, at 2:12 the driver calls me to say he's here. I go outside and he's nowhere to be seen. Then I see him park across the street and walk over with the food. I get into my office, sit down, open it up and the pernil is cold as ice. Then I open the plantains and they are bone dry. No sweetness, not warm, not fun. They're not even sliced well. this is an incredibly sad lunch and I am disappointed. I love Dominican food. I ordered from Grubhub and delivery time was estimated between 75-85 minutes and the food was delivered within the hour. As for the food, I tried the res guisado (stewed beef) lunch combo, an order of tostones (fried plantains), and a quipe and empanada. The prices are pretty good but the seasoning for the beef could've been better and the quipe was missing something , not sure what. The empanada was pretty good however, and the tostones were ok. I dined here earlier in September with a friend that has been here before. Once we entered, the waitress only spoke in Spanish so I'm not sure if she did speak English or not. My friend talked with her and placed our orders. We both ordered pork with rice and beans, a side of tostones to share, and some strawberry Dominican sodas. The food was okay. There was nothing special about anything we ordered and I've definitely had better. I am a big fan of pork so I was excited to try their pork. The pork was tasty in some parts but, fairly dry. The skin was very gummy and chewy which was interesting however, I still liked it. The rice and beans were also exceptionally dry but, had a nice flavor. I am local to this restaurant and they actually deliver through GrubHub to my home but, I'm not jumping to order from them again. It could have been an off day, maybe the food was just sitting out too long, I'm not sure. Is it worth trying again? Possibly, I'm just not sure when that will be. read more

My wife and I had the potato ball and alcapurria for appetizers. I've had better potato balls at El Artesano at Union City, their alcapurria tasted and felt like it was refried 3 times over. We left most of it. For entree my wife ordered Meatballs in red sauce with white rice, I got Codfish in white sauce with Black bean Moro. Her meatballs tasted like store bought meatballs, the ones you would normally buy at the freezer section at a Stop N Shop. My Codfish was bland and tasteless. It had too many peppers, not enough Codfish. But it wouldn't have made a difference if it did contain more of that tasteless Codfish. The best part of the meal was the dessert and the service. Our dessert was Free, thanks to a Yelp check-in. I got us Trés Leches. It wasn't overly sweet, just right, very moist and tasty. If you're craving authentic, Dominican food. This is the best place to satisfy that craving in Paterson! Aside from the food being amazing, the hospitality lines up right with it. I walked in there with 3 of my friends, on a Sunday morning because we were all craving that typical Dominican breakfast, and it's safe to say that El Sabor Tropical Restaurant did not disappoint. Yet another GrubHub choice for me. They are pretty freaking awesome. I typically order their Tres Golpes breakfast. Traditionally, it consists of Mangú con salamí, queso, y huevos. Pero, this place offers a 4th option (so you get to choose 3 out of the 4), in which you can replace any of those items with longaniza. That's sausage, for the gringos out there... Or Lil' Mama fans. (Eggs, bacon, grits... SAUSAGE! But I digress.) Today, for the first time in life, I tried a dessert called Habichuela Con Dulce. Habichuela means Beans (red kidney beans), Dulce means 'sweet'. So this dish is essentially a thin, uber-sweet porridge of sorts, made with kidney-beans. Sounds pretty jacked up, right? Like, BEANS?!?! In a dessert??? Even though I grew up around a gajillion Dominicans, been to their houses, and been to their restaurants in Paterson... I had never heard of (or paid attention) to this dish on their menus. I ordered a couple of trays for delivery with a weeks notice for delivery. They never delivered the food, even though I paid for everything in advance....I ended up having to pick up the food. The Moro was disgusting, clumps of rice stuck together and had no taste. My dog didn't even want to eat it. The chicken and beef stew were okay but not worth returning for. Amazing food love that it's constantly being changed so the quality of it is always fresh. I specially like the pork (per nil) that they serve such great taste and very crunchy skin. The rice has a lot of flavor even the white and beans are out of this world. This restaurant never fails to amaze me! I order delivery from them all the time from yelp and they're always on time, even on the weekends. The delivery people are nice and always smiling; my order is also always correct. The food is delicious, affordable, and most portions are enough for two people. I had the steak and onions combo with rice, beans, and salad. I enjoyed this more than the lomo saltado for some reason.
