This is most definitely the place to come to enjoy amazing Dominican cuisine with Dominican flavors that Grandma used to make. My wife ordered the Stew Mashed Eggplant with white rice and white beans (I reckon she likes all-white things). I got me Oxtail, Pigeon Peas rice. For Salad we got Avocado, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Beets and Cabbage. The food was splendid, very tasty. The service was excellent, out server was Mary, she handled our orders like a pro, super friendly and very helpful. Aridia another staff member, was also very nice and amiable. For drinks my wife had a Country Club Merengue (Cola Champagne) soda and I had a thick, delicious Morir Soñando (Orange Creamsicle). So far Costambar is the best Dominican joint in Paterson. This little spot is a great local find. The food is flavorful, inexpensive and comes in a large portion, so you get your moneys worth (always a plus). They have a pretty good selection of fresh food to pick from, my go to is always their chicken stew on a bed of rice and beans with some maduros (sweet plantains) on the side. The spot itself is kind of small so beware of the lunch and dinner rush hours! I have ordered out a couple of times because it was so packed, needless to say it still tasted good even after hauling them over to my house. The staff is also very nice and will answer any food questions you have, if you aren't familiar with Dominican food (do yourself a favor and get familiar). read more

Roaches!!!!!! Stay out of this place. Food is great flavor but last time I visit there was a roach going around the food dishes. I told the lady that was helping me and she just took a napkin grab the roach and told me that was inevitable. They need a visit from the board of health asap!!!!!! We were in Paterson and wanted to get an early lunch. Very basic cafeteria style set up with maybe 8-10 tables or so. The service was standard. On the plus side, they have a very wide array of Dominican food with several rice & vívere options and a bunch of meats and fishes. We found the rice and guandules kind of bland. My roasted chicken was good but the chicken with lemon was kind of hard. Good jugos naturales. I would consider this place for future meals. The extensive menu makes it good for larger groups. If you like Dominican food, they almost definitely have what you want here. read more

Went here recently to talk about catering for a baby shower... We asked to try their roasted pork (pernil), roasted chicken (pollo asado) and steak with onions (bistek en cebollado) and there rice with chickpeas ( arroz con gandules) the food was Delish with just amount of seasoning and enough leftover to make a second meal!!!! And there price is very reasonable!!! I have also been here for breakfast los tres golpes (mashed plantains, salami, fried eggs) very good too!!! The food is great , but the service is horrible. I get treated horribly because I don't speak Spanish. Very unprofessional place. I have never experienced such service at a Spanish restaurant. I only order take-out and always tip generously.I try and communicate the best I can saying the food items in Spanish but the last time I went here was the last straw....
