"El rincon de Don Pepe" is a hidden jem in Madrid. Well worth the ten minutes metro ride from Sol, since the food here is fantastic. White linen cloths, well-laid tables and attentive and kind waitresses. If you're lucky, Pepe himself will take your order (probably with a cigar in the corner of his mouth). Yes, there IS a menu if you want to see it, but Pepe usually just asks you what you're up for. And then he brings the food. A lot of it, no matter if you've ordered tapas or a meal. The Manchego cheese is delicious, as well as the pimientos de Padron. And pretty much everything else. This is a place we visit every time when in Madrid. Oh, and if you're in the Vallecas neighborhood, make sure to take the bus/metro/walk up to metro Buenos Aires to find the bar "El Mirador", which offers the best view in Madrid! read more
