Stopped in for a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The Birria tacos were very good. These were QuesoBirria which were good, but they should also offer them without the cheese. My husband had a chicken soft taco and chili relleno and a beef taco. He said both were good. I was impressed with the decor and music. I always prefer a restaurant that chooses it music to match its cuisine. We would like to have another try at this cute spot in a strip mall. Why give a a neighborhood Mexican place 5 stars? Well, first of all, they're open on a Sunday evening. That's not always a given. Some places work hard Friday and Saturday, then are closed on Sunday. El Rancho was working hard on a Sunday afternoon. Second, the server responded well to several special requests, including some extra tortillas for the leftovers boxed up to go home, grateful for that. Third, we were a relatively large group, nine or ten, depending on how you count the kids, and all the orders came out in close sequence, and without error. Food and drinks were plentiful. My wife wanted a plate of nachos last night so we decided to explore the area, pick a Mexican restaurant and give it a try. El Rancho did not disappoint. The nachos we shared were very tasty. They told us we need to come back and try some other dishes. The chicken in the nachos have us wanting to try other chicken dishes. For me that mean chicken enchiladas. This gem is hidden in a strip mall in Holland. The service was excellent and friendly. I started out with the Horchatarita, which was amazing! Chips and salsa were free and very good. The taco trio was delicious, my favorite was chorizo, followed by chicken, and then steak. All three were excellent. The menus, both drink and food are big. Will be back! read more

We were excited to try this restaurant, however, some of the dishes that arrived fell short of expectations. We ordered two taco combos and both were lacking in ingredients and flavor. On the steak, chicken and chorizo combo, there were no ingredients aside from meat. Definitely did not expect to receive tacos with no toppings on them. Our server was good The food was marginal. I had the pu6ck two entre A chicken enchilada & a chicken quesadilla. It was just ok. The chicken had no flavor whatsoever. The sauce on the enchilada was good but otherwise no flavor. Hubby had the chicken & beef fajitas. It was like they forgot to season it at all-no flavor. My wife & I came in for enchiladas and margaritas. Our food was served frozen, the waiter took it back and served again, frozen. Don't EVER give them your credit card, pay in cash, our dinner came to $25 they took out two extra transactions of $75. Our bank alerted us the next day. We will never go back. read more

This review is for the 16th Street location. Terrible customer service today! Picked up an order of chicken fajitas for $17.00. When I got home, I discovered that my order consisted of soggy overcooked vegetables with what looked like crumbs of chicken. Not the amount of chicken I would expect for $17.00. When I called to mention this, I was treated like a criminal. In order to receive any compensation, I would need to bring back the entire meal. Are you kidding! I didn't have time to make the 20 minute trip back, so I ate the chicken and threw away most of the soggy vegetables. El Rancho say good bye to a loyal customer. Learn how to deal with people. This is a solid Four Star based on the house margaritas alone! The location of this restaurant is nothing special but if downtown is crowded this might be a good option. One year after my first visit el Rancho continues to satisfy. A good selection of daily lunch and dinner specials, and a very good selection of fun adult beverages make for a good times at El Rancho. Must agree with a prior reviewer the salsa is lacking something; fortunately the cheese dip continues to save the day. PS took one star away because of the salsa. read more

I was so excited to finally return to one of my favorite restaurants only to receive the worst service I've ever had. I made a reservation for the patio, and were the only party outside for several minutes. We watched 3 other parties who arrived after us, get their food before our server Juan even took our drink order. Our food was brought out over about 10 minutes, so no one ate together. When we finished, we waited over 15 minutes for the check, only to be charged more than double on two items. We had to wait another 5 minutes for the bill to be corrected. I visit every time I am in town-- can't miss my El Rancho time! Go on a Wednesday or Saturday nights when they have "Pitcher Margarita" nights. For around $10, you can get a full pitcher of any flavor and style margarita to share with your table. They don't skimp on the tequila either! I have always been impressed by their food and service as well. The chips and salsa are a good snack while you wait for your food. I have been here with large groups as well, and the service was still great. The portions aren't huge, but they are filling for sure. I can't wait until I am back in the area to fill up on some good drinks, food, and friends. read more

Margarita's come in S, M, and L??? Count me in! Seriously though, I'm super happy there is finally a good mexican (more tex-mex) place to eat, that also has a good drink selection. We ventured in there for the first time last night, and I only tried the chili rellano (excellent!) and a couple of baskets of chips, and some guacamole. (and the margarita, of course). The guacamole was some of the best I've had- love it when there is bits of tomato and cilantro in it! It also had a bit of a kick, which was perfect. The salsa that was served with the chips was my only not-favorite part, there was a bit of a plastic flavor to it- which may have been because the container it was served in was fairly new, I'm not sure. The salsa was good, although I believe that a Mexican restaurant should have good salsa by default. I cannot give it better, the fajitas had no flavor at all. I don't think they even added salt to the beef. It was terrible. I ordered the combo plate with a chili relleno, enchilada and burrito. The chili was almost slimy, the ground beef in the burrito had no seasoning and the enchilada was bland. The food tasted like American-ized Mexican food trying to be Mexican food. I would prefer one or the other but the this conglomeration was terrible. I think the rating is deceptive. This restaurant was not worth our time or money. read more
