The food comes over from the Durango Diner, but you're required to also have an alcoholic beverage, which you have to order from the bar. Anyway, the staff is super friendly and the bartender was totally cool pouring me a snit (side car of light beer) to go with my bloody. It came to just $9 which seemed like a good deal. If I could leave a negative 10 I would. Been to this place many times. But tonight the male bartender was rude, cussed at me, flipped me off and said some vulgar things. We normally love going here and having some cocktails and dancing. But after this experience I will no longer return as long as this POS is working there. We went after enjoying an evening at the Fiesta days rodeo. My wife and I each had one beer, when I asked for another he proceeded to try to chew my butt and act a fool. Sorry but if you can't make a drink and acknowledge when another patron asks for another round, you are probably in the wrong profession. I worked as a server and restaurant manager for many years here in Farmington NM. If one of my employees ever spoke to a customer in the fashion he did, I could promise you he/she would no longer be an employee. At 35+, I am relatively sure the wife and I were the oldest people in the establishment who had an IQ above their belly buttons. Despite the cheap drinks, which the bartenders got wrong 3 times, and I still had to pay for, I would rather have bird flu than go back here. Go down to the Diamond Bell. Get a proper drink. Hang out with proper people who's IQ tests actually come out positive, and enjoy your time in Durango. read more

Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon with a group of friends. This is a bar, people come to have a drink and have a good time. The bartender (the only person there) was extremely rude, felt like we were being such an inconvenience to the point where we just finished our drinks as fast as we could so we could get out.... My point is, if you are so annoyed by "tourists" who want to have a good time then maybe you should not be working on the Main Street of a tourist town...... to all the people who expect to have a good time, please don't stop in this establishment, plenty of places to have good drinks and good service around. read more

If you want horrible service and a bouncer on a power trip then this place is for you. Our friend who is in her mid 20's got her really id taken and they would not give it back. We all had the same exact IDs and yet she was picked out and harassed because she has a smaller figure. They refused to give the ID back and we had to call the cops in order to take care of this predatory situation. The cop verified her ID and he never apologized for his actions. I would never come here again, much better time any other place in town. read more

I really wanted to like this place. But with 2 people behind the bar in the middle of the day and the place only half full, you still should not expect speedy or friendly service. This is a stupid bar. They play loud, inane music on and on, with the doors open, ruining the vibe for the whole block. We listened for about an hour...have really diverse tastes in music... but the music was--really--loud and obnoxious. I mean, loud and interesting or loud and cool is fine, I can dig that vibe I guess, but this just seemed music for noise's sake: like, "we're a bar, we have to be loud and let the rest of the block know WE'RE THAT COOL EDGY LOUD BAR" except there's no cool or edgy. I really liked this dive bar! We went early, around 9:30pm on a Saturday and it was empty. After playing a couple of games of Billiards, the extremely eclectic and unique clientele began filling up the place. All different kinds of people were dancing to some fun music, spun by a live DJ. Good for beers and to "be seen" on weekends. First time on a week night was great - male bartender, personable, smiled, offered water, checked on us for a refill, etc. Friday night 3 bartenders don't make eye contact, smile unless it's someone they know, or communicate in any way until telling us we're not in their "section." Purple haired lady made a great drink while other female bartender made a terrible drink so no consistency with mixed drinks beyond 2 ingredients. Don't know if they're trying to be "locals first" since I am a local, or just plan bad service. 2nd female bartender said it was our fault we chose to sit where we sat, so at least now I know which of their bartenders to avoid sitting in her "section," whatever that means since she ignored us the majority of the 2 hours we were there and we only had 3 drinks. read more

I was born and raised in Durango. I know the owner and they are good peeps. But I can say that some of the bartenders are pretty entitled and act like they don't have to serve who they don't want. When you get their attention they say "what do want" that's messed up. Just cause your bar is full doesn't give you any right to treat people like that. I frequent Durango. Quality food and drink establishments abound. Passed by the ER many a time. Stopped in twice this weekend, Saturday evening after dinner, Sunday evening to catch a game. I don't think Durango has a zoo so if zoos are your thing give the El Rancho a shot. I frequent dive bars and off beat restaurants with a passion and have found many hidden gems. To call this litter box a dive bar, well a senile cat would pass the ER by. Disengaged table service, rude bartenders, borderline sanitation and seriously wacked out patrons. You will be better of picking up a bag of Mountain Red and sharing it with one of the unfortunates spending the evening in the open at 10th. & Narrow Gage. Better booze, attention and conversation. Very weak bar. Witnessed a bartender basically harass a man with a service dog and demanded he provide papers. I have NEVER heard anyone ask for papers for a service animal in my many years of restaurant work. They dont even serve food. Anyway the bartender was overall impolite and not friendly. This place has amazing Bloody Mary's. I have frequented this place from time to time. Today I took my wife in for a bloody and could not get helped. Asked three different staff members and they all pointed me in a different direction. The two ladies behind the bar were bullshitting and when I finally got the attention of the one of them she said she would be right with me and then told the guy setting at the bar that obviously she Was busy, like I put her out. Wenda was amazing and deserves a raise, during this unprecedented time, she was the foundation of the business today, and made our experience great, all with a smile and up beat attitude! Place was very chill wtih 2 dollar PBR on tap and peanuts for free. You can throw the shells on the floor which I like...anyways, had fuse ball, pool. This place seems like it has a rich tradition of bikers passing through, but then all of the Main St . in Durango did. The penultimate Durango bar. Cheap beer in an authentic environment and they've usually got a free band of middling to good quality. Even if you don't find someone to go home with (which you won't because Durango) you can always take solace in staring sadly at that gorgeous singer who fronts Hello Dollface. Do not poop here. If there were a "zero" star option, we would've chosen that. The service was that bad. I don't think I've ever had such disgustingly poor service. I've never written a review but this service was THAT bad that I felt the need to advise others of what they are in store for. To start, my fiancé and I walk in for brunch and some beveys. The bar is a little busy so we stand to wait a couple minutes for some seats to open up despite my fiancé being on crutches for a knee injury. We were fine waiting for a bit if need be. We wait patiently and while waiting I ask the bartender if they serve mimosas since that's what my fiancé wanted and we didn't want to have her stand and wait around if they didn't have them. Instead of answering my question the bartender says, "Two mimosas?" To which I replied "No, I'm not sure. I'm just making sure you have them. I may want a Bloody Mary once we are seated." The bartender then says "So, one mimosa and one Bloody Mary?" Again, I told her that we weren't sure but will order when we are seated (my fiancé couldn't hold a beverage while trying to maneuver on crutches). So, two seats finally open up at the bar. We sit down. The bartender refused to acknowledge us. She never cleaned up the mess from the people before us. If we tried to get her attention, she ignored us and served the people next to us- multiple times. We waited for over 20 minutes after sitting down to be served. Finally we got sick and tired of waiting. We got up to leave and no one even acknowledged that we were leaving. We told her "thanks for the help" and she (long, light brown haired, thin bartender) refused to look at me or say anything despite her standing right in front of me. I'm not quite sure why the Service was so poor, as we were not rude or disruptive in any way. Good news is, we headed down the street to Carver Brewing Company and have had a wonderful brunch with great, quick service. It's like night and day. If you're looking for a great brunch place I would head to Carvers instead of this place. You won't regret passing up this place for one of the better places in town. read more

We finally went to her asking for service, to order drinks. We were told "I'll be with you in a minute". We waited and waited. El Rancho was my go-to when I lived in Durango... so much that I knew pretty much the entire staff. They're friendly and good at what they do. The place is packed usually on Friday and/or Saturday nights and you usually don't have to wait too long for a drink. Bad bartenders wouldn't last long at this place... there's too many regulars who wouldn't let that happen... haha! It's also an awesome place to go on Saturday and Sunday mornings... you can get the diners breakfast along with your bloody or bottomless mimosa! read more
