With a town so close to the border, there is no shortage of Mexican cuisine. There are so many places to go with so many claiming to be the most "authentic." But depending on where you're from in Mexico, and even the US, your pallet may be different. So, finding a good place can be challenging especially if you're visiting. But, El Prado Bakery takes the cake (pun intended) on some of the best Mexican food in this town. From their pastries to their burritos you'll find great food here. First, they have an abundance of pastries to choose from. You can spend some time just trying to pick the right one. And they are tasty! Their burritos are absolutely delicious! I had the breakfast sausage and egg and it was great! My only issue was it was rolled up the way I am not used to for a burrito. It was more like a giant taco with the edges tucked in. That aside, it was still delicious and the salsa was good too! Eggs were cooked nicely, as well as the sausage. Potatoes were soft and with the beans added, it made for a great burrito! The staff were super friendly! Always welcoming when you walked in. And yes, we went there more than once! Always had a smile and waiting to take your order. Once the food was ordered it came fairly quickly too! Place was clean all around which was nice as well. All in all, this was a great place. Definitely stop by and try this place! Been coming here for years. Today, I ordered 2 burritos. A potato burrito and a steak burrito. When I placed the order, I told the lady that my previous four potato burrito orders did not contain cheese even thoughI paid extra. Once again, 'I received the wrong order. I had checked the burrito before I left the place. They fixed the order and added cheese. Once I got home, my order was still wrong! The other burrito was egg, not steak. The steak burrito is more expensive, so I felt cheated. I called to complain and the manager (Aracely) called me. I had explained that I did not take pictures of the burrito to prove that they made a mistake. Honestly, I have better things to do than call and complain. But all she did was apologize without making financial amends (making a new burrito). I don't know if I will ever go back. They lost a long time customer who spent plenty of money there. PLEASE READ!!!: Horrible customer service interactions and ability to understand an order in English!!!! The food is great, but the service will make a person NOT ever want to revisit this location. The woman at the register, late 40's to early 50's, that only speaks Spanish, and coincidentally has no name on her shirt to identify who she is, is the rudest and most seemingly entitled person working at the register. She should be put elsewhere, where there are NO customer interactions. Here are a few points that I have personally experienced with this employee: * Doesn't understand English * Rude to customers upon interactions * Rushes to input an order without understanding what the customer wants * Rolls her eyes at me as if I am bothering her by making an order * Smearks as she walks away from me as if she is upset * Inputs the wrong order and tries to blame the customer * Talking to the kitchen staff about the wrong order, saying it was the customers fault "Hello, there are cameras, so please review her interactions with customers" * Speaking disrespectful about customers in Spanish, under her breath, as if she is not being recorded or heard This visit was today, 6/26/2024, and I have had many visits here before because I love the food, just not the service. We stopped into El Prado Bakery in hopes of a donut for the kiddos and tamales for us. When we first pulled in the amount of traffic in and out of El Prado was a tall tell sign this was the place to be! We ordered half a dozen donuts and half a dozen cheese and jalapeño tamales. Nothing disappointed! My kids rated the donuts "a ten out of ten" and the tamales were wonderful. The wait was no more than two minutes after ordering. This review is specifically about the pan dulce. I went with a recommendation that the flour tortillas ate really good and the bread as well. Let me preface that my mom makes handmade tortillas for me and therefore heavily biased, these tortillas were pretty good. The bread selection is nice and the process pretty reasonable. I placed an order of 25 breakfast burritos yesterday 3/26/25. I asked the gentleman who took the order named Alex, if the burritos would be ready for pick up at 0530 to which he said they would be ready. We arrive at 0520 and get out of my car at 0529. It's 0533 and the young lady finally opens the doors. I let her know that I'm there to pick up the 25 breakfast burritos to which she says they're not ready. I asked if she knew how much longer because they were supposed to have been ready for pick up at 0530. She turns around and asks another lady behind kitchen counter who was bagging some tamales and she says " I don't know, we just opened and we're getting everything ready!" She was clearly bothered and not once looked up at me. Then she starts yapping about "thats why they shouldnt be telling them that theyre going to get their orders at 0530. I'm assuming she was talking about their coworkers. To which I replied my son has to be in school to catch his bus by 0545, you all said the order would be ready by 0530. She rolled her eyes and gave me her back. I had my husband leave to take my son to school and I stayed back while they finished up the burritos. I ended up walking out of the bakery at 0555. I have to say that the two gentlemen that were working on the burritos were working at a fast pace trying to get them finished. My first visit was breathtaking and welcoming. I love the decor right when you go through the front door. I loved the variety of pan dulce that they offer. Good prices and delicious! The pozole and menudo are good, and honestly, the bread is just right, but their tamales... even the places with the word tamales in their name cannot compare. They do have competition, but only from their other restaurants, which you know as Valentine's. Anyway, for the absolute best tamales in town, hit them up. Now the service... really good considering. Stumbled across El Prado one morning after getting a last minute suggestion from a friend. First of all, the pastries sitting out front IMMEDIATELY grabbed my attention. I love that this local bakery constantly brings out fresh pastries throughout the day. I promised myself I would buy a pastry next time I go in!! Breakfast is served all day and I see a full kitchen making fresh burritos every morning. Despite the long lines, this business operates so smoothly. I have been here 6 times in the two weeks since i found this gem. The first time i tried coming on Sunday morning, the wait was about 45 minutes so I came back the next day, and I totally understand the hype now. My favorites are the pork and green Chile burrito, steak burrito Mexican style, Apple fritter, carrot cake, and strawberry cake. They are scrumptious. Definitely need to try the chocolate cake though. I also recommend the pineapple empanadas. The service is always phenomenal. Did a little searching and came up on this little spot. Not only Do they have fresh pan dulce they also have a kitchen where they make fresh food we go in and it isn't busy at all. We walk right up to the counter and place our order. I get the ham and cheese torta and I add eggs. It come with beans avocado lettuce and tomatoes. I don't do lettuce and tomatoes on my breakfast sandwich so I take order without. My wife who swears she doesn't like chorizo gets a chorizo and potato breakfast burrito. I also had some pan dulce for snack later in the day lol. They have a very nice seating area that's separate from the main lobby. It opens up by these roll up doors (more like windows though)but it was morning time and freezing so rightfully so it was closed. Anyway we sat down to enjoy our breakfast and OMG the food was AMAZING! It was hot and fresh seeing as it was made to order ! The portion size for my torta was huge! I ordered the lb of barbacoa, when I picked it up I saw it came with 4 bolillos- I am used to having barbacoa with tortillas and it was a little sad- however when I got home and used my own tortillas, I have to say- the barbacoa was delicious! Menudo had a great flavor. The tripe was a bit overcooked for me. It was too soft. Their breakfast burritos are your standard burritos you get. Their red salsa was what shined the most out of the whole order and really made the burritos elevate to the next level. Also, had a quesadilla and it was really well paired with the red salsa.
