So I had to make reservations for a family celebration with 18-20 family members. We didn't make it on time to the brunch and the hostess was able to reserve my whole family a table very quickly!! They are great at accommodating large families. The food is a little pricey but it's really good. My arrachera tacos were cooked perfectly. I was upset that it was a CRAZY $22 for my 4 tiny mini tacos and a side of beans that I didn't even eat because they had chicharon. It didn't even come with arroz. Anyway I HIGHLY recommend the PLATILLO CUÑADOS. It's very worth the price and amount of food that comes with it. The tapiqueña was also very tender and delicious. Really enjoyed the food. The service was impeccable. Everything that they served was done with the best of care and had a really good taste. The ambience was a wonderful. Even with a GPS, this place was still tricky to find. Why? Well, if you're driving along side the gateway (like you do), it's kinda tough to see the one sign that's way up in the air whilst you're driving. It also doesn't help that there's absolutely no sign on the actual building. Damn near rear-ended the guy in front of me. But luckily, I have cat-like reflexes and a bad ass braking system. Wait. I'm getting off track here. Let's discuss the nearly catastrophic dining experience we witnessed last night, shall we? Overall, I'd say the two things that saved the place from a bottom-of-the-barrel review were the booze and the decorum. Seriously, the decorations were stellar and the wine was quite good. Hey, I'm never one to not give credit where credit is due. But this is where the compliments cease. I should point out that we were actually here for a work related event. Which meant the menus were condensed for budgetary reasons and to help expedite the night. Now that I've got that disclaimer out of the way, we can discuss the service and execution of said food. There were 3 main courses to choose from: a chicken dish, a shrimp dish, and the steak...which the wife and I very dubiously chose. I mean, I wanted the chicken, except they served the sides with rice on top of mashed potatoes. Who does that?! I'll just get this out of the way now. The steak tasted like well seasoned rubber. You read that correctly. Although the steak itself was almost perfectly seasoned, they had to ruin it by maintaining the consistency of a spare tire. Every single time I tried to cut into this disgrace of a sirloin, my entire plate would move from side-to-side. You know your dish is f*cked up when the sides are better. The baked potato was pretty good...once I finally got the waitress to bring me their in-house made sour cream. That's another thing. The service here was pretty awful. Inattentive, dismissive servers which I had to bellow out whatever was left of my already fading voice just to request more Cabernet or, God forbid, salsa for the chips. Yeah....the traditional tortilla chips they brought out came without the salsa. When the salsa finally DID arrive, it was by far the spiciest salsa I've ever had in my life! Seriously. It felt like I was receiving third degree burns on my tongue. This is also one of those places that automatically adds 15% gratuity to the bill once the party hits 8 or more. There was about 40 of us. Needless to say, I didn't feel the need to leave an additional tip. Would have been redundant, plus the service was that of an inept, disgruntled employee who just received their pink slip before shift. Btw, I looked at the rest of their menu to see if I'd ever return and try something that wasn't available on this evening. But since it's apparent they can't cook a steak to save their lives, I wouldn't dare try the rib eye. One guy got the shrimp plate and even I could see from five seats down that shit was burnt to a crisp. Like I said, if it wasn't for the booze and the fact that this restaurant actually has a really inviting dining room, they'd likely rate bottom-of-the-barrel for me. So, Cuñado's gets 2 fried shrimp scorched beyond recognition out of 5. read more

Really great food, super authentic from Mexico. This is not Tex-Mex I repeat not Tex-Mex, this is authentic Mexican food. The mole was some of the best that I've ever had, the sopes were delicious as well as the posole. Too many great things to mention on the buffet but do yourself a favor and come see this spectacular couple and enjoy their delicious food. The music was exceptional, and the service was outstanding. We hosted an event for a hundred people and had rented the entire restaurant which was an excellent idea and we were certainly happy as well as all of our guests too. read more

This was a nice hidden gem in this town, the service was great and attentive, climate was just perfect, and when the music started it made the experience even more enjoyable. The prices were not bad at all for a 4 party dinner we paid under 100 Dollars with drinks and dessert. I would definitely recommend specially for the out of town guest. Very friendly staff, waiter was awesome to our party of 13! Didn't like the consistency (too thick) of the tortilla soup but the presentation was nice. The chicken cordon bleu my son had was delicious! I also tried the Chile relleno which was also good, loved the sauce on top. Overall great experience! This is my second review for Cuñados. I don't live in El Paso but when I come to town, this is my go to place. The first review I wrote was a 5 star rating raving about the tripitas and the drinks. I've got to say the food is still the bomb and the tripitas are definitely consistent. The drinks and service however, are NOT. We ordered two dirty martinis and got two regular martinis with lots of vermouth. I went to speak with bartender who ended up being a mouthy, rude, arrogant man who claims he's been making martinis for 40 years. Sad to say in those 40 years, nobody told him a dirty martini takes olive brine. Someone should buy him a shaker too - not a one in sight. If you don't know how to make a dirty martini - ask the customer - they will tell you how they like it. read more

The place wasn't busy maybe 8 tables with 3 servers from what I could see.So there shouldn't have been a reason to be seated at a dirty table and wait for 10 minutes to get our drinks, water and soft drinks mind you. I expected better service considering the price. The mole was less than desirable and the barbacoa tacos where bland. It's barbacoa, it's pretty hard to mess it up. I had the tampiquena and for the price I expected a little more than an enchilada and an ounce of refried beans and guacamole. The arrachera was tasty but that was about it, couldn't enjoy it with the pico de gallo since it had spoiled and tasted bad. Really disappointed in the service and the food. Bit of advice, servers should have a little more sense of urgency when taking care of customers. I'm not one to tip less than 20% and I didn't, but had it been anyone else, they'd be lucky to have gotten 10%. read more

OMG. I have a one word review. Pathetic. I don't know if they offer menu service so this review is for the breakfast buffet only. Without question this was the worst excuse for a Mexican breakfast I have had in the city of Mexican Food. It was bland and tasteless. The offerings were limited. The plate appeal was non existent and I'm shocked, shocked That the parking lot was crowded. I'm convinced the 5 star reviews were written by momma. I still can't believe we drove miles out if our way to try this joint. And the cruelest cut of all was the very high price. Sad to say the best part of the meal was the free glass of ice water. With so many other options nearby including Julios just a block down the road I fear this joint won't make it past New Years unless they make serious changes. I certainly won't be back. From being out of town it's time consuming to locate a good hole in the wall Mexican restaurant when your pressed for time. We gave this place a shot and was pleased with the brunch buffet display choices of food. To name a few; they had ceviche, fresh fruit, pazole/menudo and carnitas. So we wanted to take some friends to a place with Mariachi music and great food. On a whim we decided to try Cunados based on other reviews. We were impressed and so were our guest. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Our drink order was quickly taken and brought to our table. There were two large groups having graduation celebrations and so it took a while for our food to arrive. It didn't matter because the music was great and the chips and salsa kept coming so we had great company , great good,and enjoyed great music. Wr had a great server. We tried Cuñados last week for dinner. We ordered the queso as a app, my husband got the chicken flautas, and I got the shrimp ceviche. The waiter did a wonderful of stirring the queso con rajas at the table and it was seriously the perfect portion! My husbands flautas were crisp and light without being over fried. I'm always hesitant on ordering them at restaurants because they are often over fried. My ceviche was light and tasty. They had live music that night, and though we weren't near the stage the singer moved around the restaurant while he sang. It was the perfect volume for us to still talk but enjoy the live entertainment. The micheladas were limey and cold. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to others. Read the reviews and decided to try this establishment for ourselves on a Friday evening. The food was good, the live music was good, but the service could have been better, and more personable...it almost seemed like our waiter wasn't trying to be a waiter. We got the same vibe from the host, the hostess, and other wait staff. Is that why the place was only half full from about 6:30 PM to past 9:00 PM on a Friday night in El Paso, when many other local eating establishments see much more traffic? Don't know. We had a reservation for a family dinner for 20 people and we showed up and they didn't have the space reserved and claimed they never received the reservation. They said they would try to accomadate us. We asked if they could give us a table for 12 and they end up giving us a table for less and when all 12 people showed up the waitress got upset because we asked for the additional chairs. The reserved table next to us was reserved for 730 and at 830 I asked if we could take the chairs from their since they had not shown up and the waitress claimed they were on their way. To make it worst, the service was not great but she made sure to charge the gratuity. Lastly my plate was missing half of what came with it. Great service I had not been there in a while and the Breakfast Buffet was out of this world. The food was awesome and there was plenty to choose from Fresh. Very Attentive Staff. Great Customer Service a Server by the name of Eric took care of us and made us feel at home was very attentive and made conversation with my little girl absolutely above and beyond. Great personality he said he was new at Cunados. He definitely took great care of me and my family and also let us know they are open during the week for lunch. The appetizer we ordered was ajillo mushrooms and probably a traditional plate but it had the skins of the ajillo chile and was overwhelming the mushrooms.
