It's time to Pollo-ver to the side of the road and write a review. This is a very popular chain in California that has been around forever. I used to eat this food a lot when I lived in Los Angeles because these restaurants were cheap and filling. It's not the healthiest stuff but it's not as bad as some fast food is. So you could say I'm a fan. Then again I'm not that much of a fan that I would rush out of my way to eat this in Houston, but I'm happy that it's now Houston and that's definitely a cool thing. This one is down in Pearland, and is fairly popular but not the busiest location. The food is pretty good and the employees aren't too bad. They just opened up this spot and now I am starting to see why.. The chicken tostada bowl was so fresh well seasoned and yummy. I ate everything even the shell. The beans and rice at the bottom of the bowl wasn't soggy from the lettuce and tomatoes being on top of it. The chicken itself wasn't that chewy gummy chicken that you get from chicken nuggets, it was more grilled than baked to taste. Additionally, the rice was actually Spanish rice and not that yellow rice. Everything was delicious! Even the house made cilantro sauce was a kick. Also, I liked how the sauce bar was clean and free of mess. The small water glass was perfect for me as I put some cut lemons in it. The pricing of the meals aren't overly expensive and is bare minimum cheap. What made this experience even better was the fact that I got some mailed coupons. Another thing are the burritos, they are so packed with flavor it doesn't get any better than that. I usually visit this place twice a week and get my chicken avocado wrap with the creamy crack a*k*a creamy cilantro dressing. I literately dip everything in that dressing because it's sooooooooooooo good! Of course me being a brotha, I had to try their Mexican style grill chicken, which turned out to be pretty good. Their grill chicken is more on the thin side, which was expected, but wasn't dry. But there side dishes are trash. That's my biggest knock with this place. Their rice is extremely bland, beans had a gross consistency and their mash potatoes had this odd great value brand taste. I would take Taco Cabana sides all day, every day over El Pollo Loco. First of all - as a picky eater and a person with social anxiety I have to say as soon as I walked in the establishment I felt at home. The employees and manager greeted me as soon as I walked in the door and smiled. I could not decided on what to order hence this was my first time in the restaurant, the manager was kind enough to help me and suggest things from their menu - the double chicken tostada salad was the right choice to go!
