I know I live in the land of great, authentic Mexican food, but sometimes fusion places like Torchy's Tacos just hits. I've been a big fan since their origins in Austin and was more than excited when this Pearland location opened up. My son was in town and requested Torchy's for dinner and I finally got around to checking it out. This location is located in East Pearland in a large shopping strip so parking is plentiful. I can't really speak on the customer service because we ordered at a kiosk in the front. The young man that brought out our food was very friendly though. One thing you must absolutely get here is their queso in any of their preparations. It's addicting. I like the Hillbilly Queso which is their Green Chile Queso but upgraded with chorizo. It's a perfect balance of cheese with a little bit of heat. It's one of the better quesos in the game. Here, it was tasty but a little runny on the day we had it. I've had breakfast options at other locations, but typically stick with a two specific tacos almost on all occasions. My all time fave is the Trailer Park. It's fried chicken and green chiles with a poblano sauce. Simple, but good. My second fave is the Brushfire. Completely different flavor profile with jerk chicken, grilled jalapenos and mango. I'm usually not a fan of sweet and savory combos, but this works. This one packs heat with their diablo sauce. Here, they were not bad by any means, but it just wasn't fresh tasting. Everything felt like it wasn't fresh. I honestly feel like I caught them on a bad day because it didn't leave us very satisfied after the meal. I'll give them another try and update if needed. The customer service and timeliness at this location are unacceptable. I've repeatedly ordered pickups only to wait at least 10 minutes beyond the scheduled time. Despite this, I continued to visit because I enjoy the tacos. Last Friday, I placed an order expected to be ready at 6:54 pm I arrived at 7:15 after grocery shopping, and my order was still not ready. The bartender checked on the order and it wasn't ready yet , I let her know it was supposed to be ready 20 minutes earlier, her attitude was literally like- oh well. The cashier offered the same indifferent response after she checked. When 7:25 approached and my order still wasn't ready, I decided to cancel--just two tacos and some queso mind you. Surprisingly, the order was suddenly ready after she went to the back to cancel. As I turned to leave, she forced out, "Sorry for the wait, would you like a drink," if I did I would've ordered it.. I had the perfect pickup experience at Torchy's today. The restaurant wa clean and not too busy. I ordered my food online, walked in three minutes before my scheduled pickup time and walked out, order in hand, 1 minute before my scheduled pickup time. This location has perfected their online pick up game. Bravo! My combo fajita plate and 1/2 order of chips and queso were fresh and delicious. The fajitas had a smoky mesquite taste to them, all veggies were fresh, beans and rice were delicious. The chips were crispy/fresh and the queso tasty. The fajita plate is a great deal for $11, a couple dollars extra to add protein. We came to Torchy's for happy hour. I like Torchy's. I've been (not to this location) but other locations many times. The look and feel is pretty similar to other Torchy's locations except that this one did NOT have wine. So we took our food to go as it was dinner time on Friday and I wanted wine with mine. I typically get tacos but decided to get the Airstream Salad and I added salmon, dressing on the side. It was REALLY good. If you're really in the mood for some greens, this is a good choice. We sat at the bar while we waited for our food. The bartender was excellent. My husband got a happy hour margarita and we shared some queso. Also very good. Oh Torchy's, I was so excited to welcome you to Pearland, but you have let me down today. I'm not mad, I'm disappointed *spoken in my best motherly tone* I made a point to wait a few weeks to let the hype calm down before ordering from this location. I placed an order on the app this morning for one taco (The Wrangler, my favorite). The default order time is 15 minutes. I placed the order without any issues. About 7 minutes in, the status of the order was still in progress. Perfect. At the 15 minute mark, my order was ready. Awesome! I was going to be in and out and on my way. Well what should have been a quick stop turned into an hour ordeal. When I arrived, there were not any orders in the pick up area. There were a few people waiting. I overheard a few people say they had been waiting 20-30 minutes. I figured that they're still working out the kinks since it's a new location. I patiently waited and watched the people who were there before me finally get their orders. After about 30 minutes, I noticed people who came in after me left before me. I eventually went to the cashier to check on the order. The young lady was able to look up my order in the system and radio to the kitchen to expedite my order. In the meantime, people were picking up large orders while I was still waiting on one taco. After about another 10 minutes, I asked an employee who had just dropped off food about my order and they said they would expedite it again. A few minutes later, I asked another employee who dropped off more orders to check on it. There were some apologies about the wait, but still no taco. At some point, an employee asked me my name and said that my order showed as ready and that someone must have picked it up. I have no idea if someone took my food, if they accidentally gave my food to someone else, or if they completely dropped the ball and missed my order. All I know is that the entire time I was waiting, they never called my name and I arrived right when the order was supposed to be ready. Eventually a young man said they found the ticket and said they were making my taco. I normally don't ask for extras but I was irritated and annoyed so I asked him for some chips and queso and to speak to the manager (which I never do). The manager came out immediately and apologized. I then asked the manager for chips and queso or something extra for the hour long wait. He said yes without hesitation. When they finally brought my food out, the manager apologized again and said he refunded me. He said it should take about an hour for the refund to show, but it hasn't yet. I'm guessing it will be a day or two before I get the refund. I was happy that he did that, as I wasn't expecting it. I'm kind of annoyed that I had to ask for extra food, but I'm happy that they owned the mistake and tried to make it right. Y'all know I'm a service person. Had it not been for the service recovery, this would straight up be a 1-star review. My food was tasty (as always), but I missed a meeting waiting an hour for one taco. This Austin transplant takes the delicious taco and puts a spin on it with ingredients you wouldn't usually find in a taco like fried chicken. I was excited to hear that they were opening up their first location in my own backyard: Pearland. I heard about the grand opening through a post on Facebook. I made my way on Tuesday for dinner. As you would expect at a new spot, it was packed. The post I had seen on Facebook advertised two free tacos and a margarita as part of their grand opening. However, the post was poorly written and was simultaneously advertising two different events. The post wasn't clear and it was only until I was ordering at the counter that I was told the promotion was for a day that had passed. Once I showed the post on my phone to the cashier, the manager showed up and a little back and forth ensued. The manager ended up giving me the two tacos free of charge but not the marg. I would have hoped for everything since the mistake wasn't made on my part but it is what it is. Beyond their tacos, Torchy's is known for their queso. It has a kick to it so be prepared for queso that's different that what you're accustomed to. The chips were fresh and they even gave us a bag to-go since we didn't finish the queso which was a nice touch. One of my tacos was one of their most popular menu items: The Democrat. Which you can make trashy which means they add cheese. Throw cheese on anything, I'm always down. And they serve breakfast tacos all-day which is a nice touch! This location, like most new spots, has a couple of kinks to work out. Torchy's aren't my favorite creative tacos in town, but I appreciate the impact they've had on Houston's dining scene. read more

This is a fast casual spot where you order at the counter and the food gets delivered to your table. I ordered the brushfire taco and the trailer park taco, "trashy style". This is obviously not comparable to a Mexican style taco but they are fantastic. My favorite was the brushfire, it was filled with delicious and tender Jamaican jerk chicken and it was nice and spicy. Came to this location for the first time and it was a packed house. I didn't want to take the food to go and it not being the same. I opted to eat outside because there was no seating inside and I could not seat my baby at the bar. The lady at the register was kind enough to get some one to bring the high chair outside for me. I had their regular queso, the fried shrimp taco and the barbacoa taco. Both tasted as good as the other ones so no complaints on flavor. My only complaint that I do have is that I remember Torchy's double wrapping the tacos and this time I only received one corn tortilla per taco. I like them being double wrapped because I would usually split the filling and make an additional taco. If there isn't an extra tortilla you have leftover filling you have to eat with your fingers which isn't ideal. I'm so glad they opened a Torchy's in Pearland. I've been here multiple times since they've opened, and every single time the food has been delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is amazing and consistent, and the atmosphere of this place is always pleasant. The food comes out quickly, and I can't remember a time I wasn't craving Torchy's Tacos since they opened. Of course the chips with the Green Chile Queso is fantastic, but my favorite things here are the Trailer Park (trashy) and the Brushfire. The fried chicken in the Trailer Park is always super crispy and juicy, and pairs with the poblano ranch super well.
