I came to this location while on vacation last month (December 17th, 2023). It was the first stop after leaving the airport with the rental car. The location of this establishment is a little difficult to get to as it's on a street with heavy construction and odd traffic flow. When we entered the location, we headed to the counter to place our order. We ordered several menu items to get a sample of this and that. Here's how it went: Fajitas de Res Fun fact: Although we call it Mexican, fajitas, it's actually a Tex-Mex dish. It's said to have started with the Mexican cowboys working in Texas. When the American cowboys butchered cows, they would give the Mexican cowboys the least desirable parts (head, intestines, and skirt steak) as part of their pay. The skirt steak cut into strips was called Fajitas! Now, these Fajitas were tender and flavored with pepper, onion, and chili powder. The fajitas were accompanied by refried beans, cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. The portion was enough for one person but not meant for sharing. Coctel de Camaron El cóctel/cóctel de camarones o de gambas es un plato frío servido como aperitivo o entrante, preparado con gambas o camarones hervidos y pelados, usualmente con especias, jugo de limón, alguna salsa y una variedad de verduras, como lechuga, aguacate o tomate. I have been coming to this place for years since 1990 and omg it has changed! Today I ordered 2 carne asada burritos and 3 tacos! The burritos were just beans, onion and cilantro it had almost no meat and loaded with oil! Food has been going down hill this past year not sure if they changed owners but the food is mediocre! Stopped by on Taco Tuesday. With so many options to eat great tacos, we still stopped as we were driving along Central. The price at $1.25 for small street taquitos was quite the deal and service was why they get 3 stars. The carne asada is mediocre and the pastor is missing the trompo. No mezquite wood nor special marinade here, just inexpensive taquitos. The tacos dorados were much better. The salsa bar was missing pepino and rabanitos, but the two salsas were not bad. I came here because of all of the good reviews but I thought all the flavors were very mediocre. I have several favorite Mexican restaurants but this didn't quite match up to those. I ordered Pastor tacos with rice and beans and an Horchata. The rice was dry, tasted like day old rice or 2 day old. The pastor meat was dry and didn't have much flavor. I didn't like any of the salsas, the red had a bit of heat. The green salsa was spiciest but no flavor and the green crema type salsa didn't have any flavor. I seen alot of god reviews so I tried it for the first time lastnight. Mind you I'm 6mo pregnant.. as soon as I get in there the vibes are just off. The girl at the counter is not friendly and she talks about customers to her other coworkers, she acted as if taking orders was "bothering her". Anyways besides the HORRIBLE customer service, you are better off going to one of these taco trucks or even Federico's. On this visit, we shared the carne asada and chicken tacos, rice, beans, chips, and salsa. It's been said on here before but I'll say it again. If you moved to AZ from LA this is the place to feed that late night Downtown taco craving. Asada is on point and come with the proper red Chile on em. The AlPastor was also really good and oily and came with a long cube of pina in it to give that great contrast of sweet and savory. My son had the tripas and said they were top notch, crunchy outside and soft melty inside. The salsa bar is open and the green Chile is as good as the red. The biggest thing that gave me the nostalgia of those LA night tacos was the oil, the way the tortillas are fried leaves a perfect little taste of oil on the first bite that is unmistakable! Super friendly staff, fast prep, all the best bottled real sugar favorites and a nice clean dining room. If your in South Phoenix don't be scared stop and enjoy something great! read more
